God reaches out to Israel through the prophet Isaiah and says that the prophet should speak "comfort" to Jerusalem. Her wars will finally come to an end. Her iniquity will ultimately be pardoned. Her blessings will be doubled.

Verse 3 is an obvious reference to our Lord Jesus and something that John the Baptist fulfilled as he prepared the way for God the Son. In the day of our Lord's return, there will be major changes in the earth and "the glory of the Lord shall be revealed..."(v 5a).

What a day this will be! It is when our faith will become sight! It will be when our "fear" of the Lord will be perfected in us so that we will never sin again!

Beginning in verse 6, through the prophet, God explains that we are as weak as the grass before God. We cannot stand before Him. Though we perish in physical death, God's Word will stand forever and will not fail.

Verse 10 speaks of a time when He will physically rule (cf. Zechariah 9:9-10), and He will do so with a rod of iron. His decisions and justice will be swift.

We see in our world today the creeping growth of unchecked evil. It is everywhere and throughout the world, Christian voices are being stifled and cut off. A day is coming when praise for our God will be on the lips of all people.

God is too big, too perfect, too powerful, too all-knowing to fail. What He says, He will do. We can count on that!

Are you overwhelmed by situations in your life? Does it seem to you that you cannot get out from under them?

If you have His salvation, then He is for you. He wants you to succeed, not in the world, but in your spiritual life. He wants you to follow Him in all ways.

Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,
And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
He brings the princes to nothing;
He makes the judges of the earth useless. (Isaiah 40:21-23 NKJV)

His plan comes to fruition. Nothing can stop what He has decreed. Unlike those in the world who do not know Him, those who are His will gain the victory through humble adoration and leaning on Him.
