Last spring Greenville, SC (and even more specifically Bob Jones University) was one of the cities targeted for protests by the homosexual activist group, Soul Force. Now Greenville is once again in the crosshairs of a similar group called Faith In America (FIA). Five cities across the nation have been targeted for this six-week campaign. The other cities include Ames, Iowa, Manchester, N.H., Reno, Nev., and a yet-to-be-determined city in Florida. The activities scheduled for each of these cities include: full-page newspaper ads, radio and TV commercials, billboards, door-to-door literature distribution, and a “town hall” style meeting. The stated goal of this organization is “to educate the public about how religion has been misused to justify discrimination against African Americans, against women, against religious minorities” and to show how it is “used today in a similar way to justify legal discrimination and social discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people." Greenville was selected, in part, because of death of a Greenville resident - killed during a bar fight – the suspect allegedly made a comment about the victims sexual identity. The Executive Director of FIA, Jimmy Creech, is a former United Methodist Pastor who was removed from the pastorate by the denomination for performing marriage ceremonies for homosexual couples.
