I have spoken with many ministers who share my principles regarding worship. They believe the church must gather with or without the permission of civil authorities. But the majority of these men will not speak up. They do not want to disrupt the unity of the church... and so they quietly bow to the will and consensus of presybteries, sessions/consistories. This is almost understandable in places like America where churches are allowed to gather again. They can afford to debate this at a later date. But here in Canada (and in other parts of the world) this is all very urgent and pressing. So much is at stake. So much harm is being done. And I do believe a great part of the blame likes with those who will not stand up and be counted.
The following is an excerpt from the article that I have posted on my blog. For more follow the link.
"Schism is an ugly word. In some Christian circles it is the most ugly word of all. Anything to avoid division! Anything to keep the church together in some semblance of Christian unity. But at what cost?"
I believe, as the time passes, a great dividing line will be reached between those pastors who obey the state when asked to close their churches, and those who stand for the Bible and for the Kingly rights of the Lord Jesus in His Church. I believe something like 1662 will happen soon. Many will obey the state, but others will be ready to suffer because of faithfulness to the Lord. May the Lord have mercy upon my soul and give me the grace to stand with Him and for Him!
Excellent! Thank you Steve Richardson, for the timely reminder. Yes we are to render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s. The Lord’s Church is not one of those things, nor will it ever be. It belongs to God. Caesar has no authority over it. As you said, “Never ever give to man what belongs to God.”
I read this article and I was encouraged by it. Reading it, I thought about these truths: Unity in the Holy Spirit must be kept, not unity in compromise. Compromised people seek to save their physical life, not their spiritual life! The state took over the place of Christ in the church, to rule in it.
