Genesis Under Sustained attack.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him;

Male and female created he them.”

Genesis 1.27

Many items in the news lately have shown how the Biblical doctrine of man’s creation as male and female in the image of God, is under sustained and intense attack. Years ago, I remember Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis, speaking on the vital foundation that Genesis lays for the whole of scripture and its doctrine. He travelled the world delivering this message. Now we can see in real time and in full detail the outworking of a denial of this truth. How right Ham was.

Of course the Lord Jesus himself in Mark’s and Matthew’s Gospels quotes from Genesis 1.27 underlining its vital importance to our understanding of who man is and of the nature of reality itself. (Mark10.6, Matthew 19.4).

New legislation in Northern Ireland.

We lament and mourn over the new legislation allowing very liberal abortion, in Northern Ireland. This legislation was introduced against the will of the majority of the people by the same politicians who now have the whole nation in confusion over the Brexit matter. Alas, now many innocent and defenceless children will die. Even though much innocent blood has already been shed in that province over many years, it has not been thus. Who is more innocent or more helpless and defenceless than an unborn human being? In the Old Testament we read of times when people sacrificed their own children to idols and God certainly called these innocents (Jeremiah 2.14 and 19.4 for example). This always leads to the most devastating judgements directly from God. We should tremble at what has happened.

Even if this law has been inflicted on the province by another power, the chilling and long term effect on society in Northern Ireland, is certain unless these new laws are rapidly changed. God sees it, and the blood of every one of those children, surely, who must now die, cries out to God from the ground for judgement against their slaughterers. Yet this is all also an attack on Genesis 1.27.

This week a certain colleague at work expressed how shocking it was that 39 persons had died in the back of lorry, whilst they were being illegally brought into the country. This is indeed very sad, but no one here laments over the thousands of children who will now inevitably die in Northern Ireland as a result of the new laws.

As we are made in image of God just as the testimony of Genesis 1.27 declares, we have a dignity which exceeds any that any other possible argument can bestow. That is why the killing of innocent human beings is described as murder with the strongest moral implications in the Bible. If we have only evolved, we have no absolute value at all.

Same sex marriage is also an attack on Genesis 1.27. The distinction between male and female is not a trivial one. It is most marked! Although men and women have great similarities and great differences, each are made in the image of God for His glory and, for obvious reasons, we are complimentary.

Marriage is ordained by God and it is quite clear that it is based on the coming together of members of opposite sexes with their differences and complimentarity to serve God together. Same sex marriage seriously undermines this truth, and strikes at the image of God in man, made male and female, replacing what God has ordained with something that is hard to define (what is marriage?) in any meaningful sense.

Transgenderism and Genesis 1.27

Some reading this will be aware of my recent court case in which several astonishing things were declared by the judge. In particular it was declared that a belief in Genesis 1.27 is incompatible with human dignity. This is such a big statement that I will be writing more on it in future blogs. For the time being let us note that there is once again an all-out attack on what God has said in the Bible about what it means to be human. Genesis 1.27 alone confers on man the highest, inviolable dignity.

Genesis 1.27 is under attack from all sides by a variety of different weapons, all designed to bring it crashing to the ground. Yet despite all of this, the Word of God stands.

Let us remind ourselves of the fundamental importance of biblical creation as taught in the Bible, and of the doctrine of man and who he is. Let us resolve not to bend on these truths. Let us be prepared to stand. This truth is the fundamental place to defend the unborn, family life, and what it really means to us, that we are created male and female in the image of God.

The Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, became a man so that He could represent us and die in our place as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.
