“Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of Me,) to do Thy will O God.” (Hebrews 10:7)
Many right now are celebrating the fact that Jesus Christ came into the world. And the fact that God was made flesh and dwelt among us is most definitely something that all sinners everywhere should be celebrating! But the glory of the gospel, and the glad tidings of great joy is not just in the fact THAT our Lord came into the world, but the glory and the good news is in WHY He came into the world!
The apostle Paul told Timothy that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners!” The angel said, “Call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins!” He came to do for His people what His people could not do for themselves! They could not pay the debt for their sin before God, and they could not please Him with perfect obedience. Therefore all of God’s people were destined for certain destruction and eternal hell!
Then said the Lord Jesus Christ: “Lo! I come! In the volume of the book it is written of Me, to do Thy will O God!” I will go to them, where they are in their sin and inability, and I will redeem them from destruction by paying their debt for sin - which is the shedding of blood and death. And I will perfectly obey the commandments in the law of God and give that perfect obedience for them to stand before God in. And that’s exactly what He did! Because of that, for all eternity, all of His redeemed heavenly host will forever be praising and blessing God, crying: “Glory to God in the highest!”
