Carlton McLeod explains in this video that preaching a message of repentance is often seen by the world as being mean-spirited. They claim that Christ is not concerned about our sin but rather only wants to love us for who we are.

But, when we look at Scripture, we see that Christ continually preaches a message of repentance. We also see this same preaching of repentance by Peter in the New Testament. He doesn’t preach a prosperity Gospel, he doesn’t preach a message where repentance is absent. Rather, he calls his audience to repent. Neglecting to call people to repentance in our preaching is not loving and it is not biblical. Rather, we ought to love them enough that we call them to repentance.

Acts 2:38 (NKJV) – “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
