This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
"Send me now therefore a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill to grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide." 2 Chronicles 2:7.
We are continuing to build out our space at BJU called The Vault. We finally got our Internet installed yesterday so we have started the process of downloading essential data into our local servers. I am thankful for the skilled individuals that God has sent to help me in this work. It's simply not possible to do what we are trying to do without the right people, humanly speaking. When Solomon was beginning his journey to construct the temple, he asked for two things. We find them in 2 Chronicles 2:7 and 2:8. Verse 7 reads, "Send me now therefore a man." Verse 8 reads, "Send me also cedar trees." Basically, he needed people, and he needed provisions. And I just want to thank God for sending me the right people for the job. And for sending enough provisions day by day to get the job done.
The picture above shows me mounting cassettes of the first sermons uploaded to SA on May 1, 2000. Included are sermons by Ian Paisley and Alan Cairns preached at Faith FPC in 1977. At that time, the cassette tape was the dominant medium for distributing recorded sermons. Over the years, the methods of recording, distributing and listening may have changed but the message still remains the same. It is all part of a display that we are calling the TIMELINE OF TECH that will show the various technologies that were used to listen to sermons throughout the years, beginning with the cassette tape, CDs, the MP3 player, the first iPod, smartphones, etc.
As I was putting these cassettes on the wall, one by one, I couldn't help being struck with how far these sermons have gone. One sermon I noticed was called, "The Holy Spirit vs Satan" by Ian Paisley. That one sermon recorded on a humble magnetic cassette tape was listened to over 8,000 times the world over. Praise God! This is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes (Mark 12:11).
