United Prayer Journal // DAY 588
This resolution of  Daily United Prayer  is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
Yesterday, we were able to take a first look at the display that our staff is creating at THE VAULT on the campus of Bob Jones University that will show where people are listening to sermons all over the world in real-time.

"Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it." (Psalm 81:10)

We are continuing to make progress on areas around The Vault where various displays and signs will be mounted. One of the featured displays is the "world wall" where we hope to communicate the propagation of the preached Gospel going out into all the world via SermonAudio in real-time. This is an important display for us because we want to showcase to students and visitors something visible, something tangible, something powerful that God is doing with humble means to advance His kingdom. God answers prayer.

George Muller once noted that in his day the faith of God's people seemed to be at an all-time low. On one hand, they would say they believed in God, but on the other hand, they would not be able to wholly give themselves to Him in trust. He wanted to set before God's people something visible—proof that God was indeed trustworthy, and that God still answered prayer. He thought the best way to do that was to construct an orphan-house. Something so "impossible" to do with his own present limitations that the world would have to declare that, yes, God does answer prayer!

This is exactly our sentiment. It was never enough for us to have a lab in a corner cave on the campus of Bob Jones University where a group of programmers could do some work. It was important for me to showcase what God is doing around the world so that anyone who walks into this space will be struck with the greatness of God, and the goodness of God. We need to inspire the next generation with the fact that God can use anybody!

This leads me to the Psalm that was quoted above, "Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it." There was a time when I used to think this verse meant to open my mouth as wide as possible so that I can receive as much blessing as possible. That is not correct. This verse is communicating, open your mouth wide so that GOD HIMSELF can fill it. "I will fill it!" Not fill it with "stuff" .. but fill it with GOD! You see, the greatest need that we have is not "answers to prayer" in the sense of stuff. Our greatest need is God. Psalm 23:1 carries a similar thought. "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." What is it that we will not want? Stuff? No! A Shepherd. What is our greatest need? What should be our greatest prayer request? What will do our families, our churches, and our prayer groups the greatest good? That we are filled with God. May God answer that request.
