Third of Americans binge drink during COVID pandemic, but lockdowns make problem worse
From social isolation to fears about job loss, the stresses of living in quarantine can have a devastating impact on millions of people during COVID-19. For drinkers, the problems of living in lockdown may be even worse. A new study finds harmful drinkers, or binge drinkers, consume more the longer they stay in COVID isolation.

The study of nearly 2,000 American adults is the first to reveal the connection between alcohol use and stress triggered by pandemic-related shutdowns. The results find binge drinkers consume an extra 19 percent for every week in lockdown. The odds of drinkers having more alcohol is more than twice as high among harmful drinkers compared to those who don’t drink to excess (60% vs 28%). This is especially true among drinkers with depression or a history of bingeing.

Overall, one in three Americans report binge drinking during the coronavirus pandemic. The average person ...

Addicts go to rehab, not hospitals. Anyway, you missed Mikes point, which was this - apparently this virus steers clear of liquor stores, it's very smart. It also steers clear of Walmart, Sam's, and other corporations. Selective closures seems to indicate they don't even take themselves serious.

Have prayed for your son, MS. Do let us know his progress. Many blessings for you and your family.

COVID 19 is a serious illness and very dangerous for a small number of people, particularly frail or elderly people, those who have compromised immune systems or major health conditions, and also for those otherwise healthy individuals who are working intensively in the medical field with potential or actual COVID 19 patients. I do not lessen this caution at all. However, tragically, politicians, principally
Leftist ones, and a certain sector of medical experts, as well as major pharmaceutical companies who have a lot to gain monetarily from this crisis, have milked this for all it us with, and instead if the sensible measures of places like Sweden, and also the strategy suggested by ladybug, they have racked up fear and propaganda, combined with destroying the economy, and mass quarantine and vaccination for their whole population, for something that for a large majority of people is either like a bad flu, and for many almost without symptoms.

Ladybug if someone is an alcoholic and stops drinking they can or will die. The brain can't handle the lack of alcohol and the person goes into seizures and will die without medical attention. So as repugnant as it is to Christians that alcohol is being sold during the pandemic, responding to alcohol detox calls will put an already overwhelmed medical community into an even more overwhelmed situation.

COVID 19 is proving to be the most intelligent and picky virus out!! Depending on the country or state, if you go out at certain times of night, if you have too many (just 1 over the allowed number) in a restaurant or public place, if you are not wearing a mask as ordered inside, and in some places even outside, unless you are under 11 in some countries, under 6 in others, and even as low as 2 in some extreme examples or in a plane, if you dare to hug your grandmother, (though you can follow her at 2 metres / 6 feet distance in a large supermarket), and if you dare to sing in a church service, (unless you are a choir member in some countries), or if you are in a church at all, (but no problem in an abortion clinic, and in some places a casino or strip club), or if you have 7 people instead of 6 where the Rule of 6 applies, or if you have a meal served after the magic closing hour set by the local mayor, Governor, president or prime minister, COVID 19 will come and punish you and get you. The punishment will not only be individual, but collective as the local or national government will take it out on you, by raising your district into a higher and more severe tier, or slap it with a major lockdown. This is not about health or science, but about control!!

Tim, no we are not really saving lives. I was being sarcastic in my original comment, btw. It does feel a bit like wonderland doesn't it?
Science is like the weather...constantly changinf and those in charge are usually wrong.

HM, are we really “saving lives?” Can it be scientifically and statistically proven that a single life has been saved as a result of the precautionary measures that have been taken this year? People who are careless get the virus, and most survive. People who cross every t and dot every i also get the virus, and some die. Some who are careful and some who are not never get infected. Some get infected but don’t get sick. How do we “follow the science” when the science doesn’t have any more answers than the man on the street? Curioser and curiouser, isn’t it?

Let's see....being told you can't see family, being told you can't shake your neighbor's hand, having your business shut down or being laid off and unable to buy food, pay bills, etc.,having Christians brow beat you because you didn't wear a mask, not enjoying being muzzled like a dog, living in a constant state of stress and fear, not being able to comfort a loved one as they pass on,,...yeah, sounds like a drinking problem in the making. Especially for those that do not possess the peace that surpasses all understanding. Sucide naturally increases. But hey, we're saving lives. It's for the greater good.
