Empty pews, empty collection baskets: coronavirus hits U.S. church finances
But just as American churches have been unable to meet their members' spiritual needs -- perhaps most painfully represented in the absence of public funerals for the thousands who have died -- they also have faced their own unmet needs in the form of untouched collection baskets.

"We are in uncharted waters, financially," said John Quaglione, a St. Anselm's parishioner who is also a spokesman for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. "There will be some serious conversations and some strong conversations with the parishes and the economic folks to help get us through this."

Easter Sunday is one of the biggest donation days of the year for U.S. churches, due largely to the spikes in attendance they typically see, according to church officials and nonprofit groups. ...

We’ve had a some local nurses go to NYC to help with Covid 19. I do not believe we small city folks have any idea how bad it is there. I am ashamed of my fears of getting it here. My step daughter cares for Covid patients and she said “stay home Pea Paw you’re to much in the lane that don’t come back too quickly., point taken.
I’m sure churches are being hurt. The plate passed brings more collections than online donations., but truly, the Lord has brought this apon us to rebuild what is lacking. If you have a nagging sin that has fastened on you like a leach, pray for repentance to kill the sin before your joy and usefulness is left ship wrecked. Create in us all a clean heart oh God. Support your home church.

Amen, Dr. Tim. I am in favor of local to regional restrictions on meeting, with the church's concurrence, for the protection of congregants in high threat areas. But what if your county has 5 positive cases?

I heard a news item on the radio this morning that a majority of sports fans would not be returning to stadiums and ballparks before a vaccine is in place. Would that count for church attendance as well?

The problem is that there is more to church attendance than delivery of a, preaching, teaching, maybe some litergy. There are outreach and discipleship ministries. There is that encouraging word from a trusted Brother- or Sister-in-Christ. And more.

There is also a privacy issue. Churches should be free to preach the Bible and what it says about every topic. But some Bibical stances are not popular. If my ISP doesn't like what is being carried to my computer, does it have to carry it? What if the livestream service (not everyone uses SA) or YouTube doesn't like the content? There have already been difficulties with Christians and ministries losing posting abilities. It's another way to regulate our speech.

I didn't tally up the number, but it struck me if that if at lleast half the churches mentioned in the article - - it would be a blessing if they went under ❗👍

But wait, also according to the article it looks like many can get a government bailout.👎

This is a great time for all churches to take a critical look at how they are handling their finances and consider if the Lord is pleased with how they are treating their His assemblies. The Lord Jesus was not pleased with how the religious leaders fleeced the people at the Temple and used the example of the poor desperate widow who gave her last to God because they failed to support her. It was no accident that immediately after this Jesus left the Temple (Ichabod) and announced to His disciples that the Temple would soon be destroyed.
