Earliest Christian church in sub-Saharan Africa discovered in Ethiopia
Researchers have discovered what is thought to be the oldest church in sub-Saharan Africa in Ethiopia, allowing scholars to now reliably date the spread of Christianity to the continent to the Constantinian era.

The find at Beta Samati, which means "house of audience" in the local tongue, revealed a 1,700-year-old former Roman administrative building that had been converted into a church around the time the Roman Empire made Christianity its official religion.arch

The article that SA has, depended heavily on the Smithsonian one,

https://tinyurl.com/u5xu984 (Church Unearthed in Ethiopia Rewrites the History of Christianity in Africa)

The authors of the two articles are wrong in the same way, around 313 AD Christianity fell into a very sorry shape until the Protestant Reformation ❗👎

The Trinity Review wrote:
What was happening to the churches during that period is significant. As Peter Brown, one of the more reliable ancient historians put it: "The conversion of a Roman emperor to Christianity, of Constantine in 312, might not have happened or, if it had, it would have taken on a totally different meaning if it had not been preceded, for two generations, by the conversion of Christianity to the culture and ideals of the Roman world".... Brown sees two generations of accommodation, compromise, corruption, and finally conversion of the churches to their culture. But the worldliness of the churches began much earlier, even before the deaths of the apostles.

The Ethiopian Empire came up with a brand of Christianity that mimiced the one that was in the Roman Empire.

Acts 8:26-39 shows that Christianity spread to Ethiopia much earlier than 300-something AD. Scholars would do well, as one poster here is fond of pointing out, to use original sources...like the Bible.
