No Lie: Americans Still Ascribe to the Ten Commandments
As Americans look for better strategies to prevent gun violence, pastor Robert Jeffress recently told Fox News that the first step should be instructing children to obey God and his commandments.

“Teaching people, starting with our children, that there is a God to whom they’re accountable is not the only thing we need to do to end gun violence, but it’s the first thing we need to do,” said Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas and an evangelical adviser to President Donald Trump, ahead of his church’s “March for Eternal Life” on Palm Sunday. The day before, dozens of “March for Our Lives” events across the US advocated for more gun control.

Jeffress lamented the 1960s Supreme Court rulings that declared daily teacher-led prayer and Bible readings in school unconstitutional. “For the first 150 years of our nation’s history, our school children prayed. They read Scripture in school. ...

Amen, Wayfarer. "Those who love Me keep My Commandmanets" was a verse that i memorized at one time thanks to the pastor who led me to saving faith in Jesus Christ. How are these children, or anyone else, going to follow the Lord without loving Him first? Shouldn't we start there? No one is going to be educated into the Kingdom of God. It requires a conversion, being born again, not an education.

So Nichols Cruz , had he saw the Ten Commandments , earlier in life would not have killed 17 people and wounded many more. He would be compelled to turn to the Lord. Pastor Jeffress, if you’re on the plate, why couldn’t you have proclaimed the gospel? Let the call be sent out, a sign with “thou shalt not kill” , will not save a sinner, no not one.

Spurgeon; If heaven were by merit, it would never be heaven to me, for if I were in it I should say, “I am sure I am here by mistake; I am sure this is n’t my place; I have no claim to it.” But if it be of grace & n’t of works, then we may walk into heaven with boldness.

George Whitefield; Works? Works? A man get to heaven by works? I would as soon think of climbing to the moon on a rope of sand!

Hey, Bro. John,
I tried to have this conversation not long ago with my wife. Ah, that God would open her eyes to the false hope of works righteousness. As my pastor likes to say, "If we could be good enough to work our way to heaven, Jesus wasted His time dying on the cross." No, there is only one way - free and sovereign grace.
Blessings, bro.
Blessings be on you also, Brother Rodney.

Yes, without free and sovereign grace applying the truths you've no doubt lovingly shared with your wife, the Bible will remain a closed book, no matter how much we project the character of Jesus to those around us. What is needed is:

John 3:8 KJV
(8)  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Matthew 22:37-40
And he said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.---ESV

Since Jeffress is a peddler the Word, I don't pay much attention to him.

Michael Gerson wrote:
With their reactions to the Roy Moore candidacy and the Stormy Daniels scandal, the Trump evangelicals have scaled the heights of hypocrisy to the summit. Family-values conservatives who dismiss credible accusations of sexual abuse and wink at hush money for a porn star have ceased to represent family values in any meaningful sense. They have made a national joke of moral standards that were once, presumably, deeply held....

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, all good children go to heaven.

Romans 7:4 KJV
(4)  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Galatians 2:19-20 KJV
(19)  For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
(20)  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

When Christ died, "I" died. I died to the law.

Romans 10:4 KJV
(4)  For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Galatians 3:24 KJV
(24)  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Turning to law for justification will never work, but multitudes insist on trying it.

Pretty vague headline. How MANY Americans "ascribe" to the decalogue? Ten million? Six thousand? A hundred? Nine?
