Will Southern Baptists Back Russell Moore’s Call to Remove Confederate Flag?

Does a Southern Baptist leader’s call for the Confederate battle flag to come down mark a sea change in the views of evangelicals about a symbol long wrapped in both support for slavery and regional pride?

Or will conservative white Christians in the South resist change even as a growing number of Republican leaders — including S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley — from the region call for the flag to go?

“The cross and the Confederate flag cannot co-exist without one setting the other on fire,” Russell Moore, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, wrote in a widely noted blog post on Friday (June 19). ...

I will check into the capitalization because at the website I looked at "Union" and "United States" are capitalized. Also, Article IV Section 3 still says no new state can be formed within other states without the approval of Congress. Congress obviously didn't approve and neither did God.
As far as I know, the South didn't form any new States within other States, so that shouldn't be a factor in whether a State is forbidden by the Constitution to voluntarily leave the Union anyway. West Virginia on the other hand was formed out of the original Virginia in the middle of the Civil War, because the folks in the west end of Virginia favored the Union, so it was granted Statehood by Congress.

Penny, now I know many consider Rome is Babylon and perhaps early Christians referred to Her as that, in the tribulation Babylon probably is the physical rebuilt city of Babylon. Anyway,
Gil Rugh said or, wrote:
We pick up that title of the queen of heaven and associate it with doctrines relating to the virgin Mary. You see here that the worship of the queen of heaven antedates Christ by at least 500 years because Jeremiah the prophet is condemning it in Israel. We will have an apostate worship system in the 70th week of Daniel in which the Catholic church is going to play a key role. The protestant church is also going to play a key role. But the indication would seem to be that the Roman Catholic church will be leading the way. The protestant church is every bit as pagan in it's practices but does not have the solidified power that the Roman church has.

Huh! by the way, A. Mohler Jr., said it was time to get rid of the Confederate battle flag as well, so the title of this thread could have been changed to that.

Me too, it is just I am taking the side of let it be a matter of one's own conscience befor God and love for others, rather than being forced to bow to the personal preferences of others. So if you don't want to display a CBF fine don't, and if the little older lady wants to display one not out of any disrespect for discendents of slaves but as her choice of defying political tryanny fine again (sometimes aka anti-white racism). Hope the two of you can love and respect each others choices.

The CBF issue is not a political issue as much as a Christian issue to me. I'm not going to worry if one party or the other agreed or disagrees with it. What is the right thing to do? I know racism, slavery, and rebellion against our country are all wrong.

Mike...

Wrong premise, John. Assumes the national government is referenced.

First, re-read this section of the Const. Notice the reference to war against "them" and adhering to "their" enemies? It's reference to the States, not the national gov. The US as conceived was a union of independent States, not an "it." The "united" in old documents was written un-capitalized for a reason. "united States." United was a descriptive of the States being in agreement on some things. The national gov was established and given permission by the States for specific and limited purposes, and those limited purposes were written down. It has no further authority. As I suggested earlier, read amendment 10.

In our day "the demand" to remove the Conferate Battle Flag stands for enslavement to the dictates of Ungodly or Godless would be tyrants.

Are you blind to that?
I have a precious little older lady in my church who is so put off with those throwing their ungodly political weight around she would like to hang a CBF out to simply be in their face.

If she does, and does for this reason I am willing to stand and defend her right to do so (to react in a way of her own choosing against tyranny, and anti-white racism). Would you?

Perhaps you might if you recognize, let me say it this way, the sanctity of one's individual conscience before God.

Now it is not on this thread but what are you going to do or not do regarding the unjust assault on the conscience of Biblical Christians (Christianity) by the pro-homofacist courts, government and human rights genuises (and their pro-abortion allies as well) going on right now in our country?

Pretend the CBF issue is more important?

This is just a thought. A weird thought.
However, the way things are going, will the Sodomites pressure the government to hoist a flag over the WH to represent their degrading and disgustiing "victory?" What are the possibilities of this happening?

It is not out of the question for since we are witnessing the overthrow of institutions created by man; because ungenerate man "will not have Jesus rule over them as King."

What would God have done if Abraham continued praying? Did he stop because he looked at man's undoing? Or, did he give STRENGTH to the Lord because his expectation of the Lord was that He would honor and give glory to His own name.

We give STRENGTH to his name when we proclaim his marvelous works done for the children of man. Too often what we behold brings despair and causes us to lose hope.

Heavenly Father, glorify Your name. You are worthy to receive glory, honor, power, praise. You alone are to be worshiped. Cause us to set the Lord before our faces, so that we will not be moved. When we speak of You and Your works, an atmosphere of hope is created and You respond.

Some Constitutional things to consider.

Art III Sect 3

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.

I'd say the Confederacy levying war against the Union was treasonous!

Art IV Sect 3

New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
The Congress shall have Power to dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to Prejudice any Claims of the United States, or of any particular State.

Only the Congress is allowed to make laws respecting the territory belonging to the United States. A rouge Confederacy isn't allowed to take U.S. territory.

Oh, see, that flag in the background for the movie ]]Glory that is on tonight on Grit? Now that's the only banner needed.

One can as easily ask will Southern Baptists back Albert Mohler Jr., about the Confederate Battle flag, because he made a long statement about it's appearance also.

This is all the Rebels needed to know:

act.17.26 kjv

And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

God made the United States, they didn't have His permission to try and leave it.

jer.18.7-8.kjv
At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.

Had the Confederacy turned from it's sin, God may not have destroyed it.

I think you are kidding yourself if you think there wasn't or wouldn't be homosexuals if the Confederacy won the war. There would still be sinners corrupting the government on top of the problem of slavery.

Chaise, Penned, and Pennnelope,

Nations rise and fall according to God's will. Unfortunately, some people believe that their nation/country is the perfect country, can never do evil, and will endure forever. In their utopia, they will burn a pinch of incense to the state. I do not put any past or present state on the altar and worship it. Our citizenship is in heaven!
