Baptist Scholar: Mormonism Becoming Christian Denomination

A Baptist theologian, who's spent years studying the works of leading Mormon scholars, said he has noticed a shift in "Mormonism" that can potentially lead to the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints one day being viewed as a Christian denomination, much like what occurred in the evolution of the Worldwide Church of God.

Although many evangelical critics belonging to mainline Christian denominations view the LDS Church as less-than-Christian, Roger Olson, who's a theology professor at Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary in Waco, Texas, wrote in a recent blog post on Patheos.com that through his studies of the Mormon faith and discussion with various LDS leaders, "there is no doubt" in his mind that there is a "discernible" evolution of Mormonism that is leading it to a "more biblical" account of Jesus and salvation. ...

Well Mike, to be honest Im not sure now that I think about it.Verse 18 says condemnation came upon all men. But verse 19 uses the word many in the latter half of the verse in regards to salvation. It cant mean all, or that would mean universalism. If it only means some, than the use of the word many in the first half of verse 19 means only some were made sinners, contradicting verse 18.

What are your thoughts?

Wishful thinking is the calling card of the indiscernible. Mormonism are not going to trade in their monitory earthly kingdom for the Gospel. For all the backslapping and calling everyone a brother, Mormons have more in common with Islamist and Catholics than Christianity.

GS, not looking to argue here, but what's your take on the "many" as used in this verse?

Isn't it wonderful to see the Roman Catholic salvation by works heresy maintained in the UK like this?

Man tells God what to do and advertises his own suitability to be saved!!
Who needs Christ Crucified eh??

The biggest cult on the face of the earth is professed Christianity, and it delights to mock the lesser cults, like Mormonism, which actually has it half right, inasmuch as they understand man must produce fruit worthy of repentance in order to enter the Kingdom, and what's more he has the natural ability to do so.
The cult of professed Christianity has got the fine art of Pharisee deception perfected, to keep as many people as possible out of the Kingdom.
They've twisted the nature of sin, stripped man of any responsibility for his actions and made it virtually impossible for the Holy Spirit to convict anybody. This is the gnostic and Roman Catholic dogma of Original Sin.
They've rendered the need to resist temptation meaningless with the Eternal Security heresy.

On and on it goes. They trust in the multitude of their mighty men, like Augustine, Luther and Calvin and the rest, all of whom are rotting in hell right now.
Nobody will listen, but you cannot pull the wool over God's eyes, and it will be too late to cry foul at the judgement.

I want to be as holy as you so I can teach me and show Men how unworthy they are. Hey, do you want to dance with me, do you think I'm a Gnostic girl?

Poor Lie Detector.

Another one for the fire, who will cry, "Deceived, Deceived," when she plunges over into the abyss.

Let me encourage you today, to look unto Jesus, who was lifted up, in just the same way that Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness (numbers 21), that whosover believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. Check out the way Jesus preached this gospel in John 3:14-15.

If you are hoping, gal, to get to heaven by resisting temptation, I must tell you that you've already failed the test, and therefore according to your doctrine, you are doomed.

Gospel preaching is JESUS CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED. So for you to preach anything else makes you a false teacher and therefore subject to the greater condemnation. Besides which, women are not to preach at all, so there's another temptation you've failed to resist.

Let's face it, you are a sinner like all others, needing a Saviour, and you must needs receive him by faith, and on his terms, wishing to place yourself under his authority, which means obeying scripture, not your natural inclinations.

I agree Dave. In today's world all someone has to do is "name the name of Christ" and then they are included in the genuine faith. They define Him much differently than a genuine Christian does, but the pseudo-christians will gladly receive them into their fold. The mormons aren't even a good counterfeit, but then if a politician or media personality says they are a cult, they will have no occupation soon.

To me the biggest and best counterfeit is the RCC, because they are simply better at marketing themselves. I have always maintained that absolutely nothing in RC theology is salvific, but once again, find a politician or someone in mainstream media and they use the terms interchangeably; catholic and Christian.

We are being brainwashed. As an aside, I actually studied with mormons for a brief period and attended one of their services, but thanks be to the Lord, He showed me their falshoods.

Jesus was not the devil's brother; He did not become God; his sacrifice for mankind was not in the garden, etc. Just like the RCC, nothing in mormon doctrine is spiritual.

This man seems obsessed to the point of being deceived. It is kind of funny that some Christians think so highly of Mormonism and not Islam. Look at the similarities: Mohammed wrote a book after being visited by a demon (Gabriel), Joseph Smith wrote a book after being visited by a demon (Moroni). Islam teaches\taught polygamy, Mormonism teaches/taught polygamy. Islam believes in the false god Allah, Mormons believe in the false god Adam (according to Brigham Young). Islam teaches that Christ is just a prophet and not God's Son (a false Jesus), Mormons teach that Christ was the spirit brother if satan, born in Jerusalem, married to three women, had children and other disgusting blasphemies (a false Jesus).
The only real difference between Islam and Mormonism is the fact that Mormons throw Jesus' name into their title. Both are satanic religions sending their followers to hell. Apparently having Jesus' name in their title gives the Mormons the ability to deceive Christians a lot easier.

Thanks for posting. It was an encouragment to me as we "Baptist-type Bible-Believing Believers need all the men and women but especially all the real men God might give us and rise up among us to stand for the Truth of the Word of God (ah, like it is the LAW of God because it is, NOT just a spiritual book of good suggestions) no matter how seductive, bewitching and popular Satan and his servants, human and demonic make their lies of tolerance and dialogue to be.

Perhaps this edoc/pdf might be a blessing to you:
