Does the Sabbath still exist on the isle of Lewis?

The isle of Lewis in the outer Hebrides is said to be the last place in Britain where the fourth commandment - Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy - is still strictly observed. But how has modern life changed attitudes to the Lord's Day on this island of 20,000 people?

They used to talk of the Scottish Sabbath, then it was the Highland Sabbath and now it is just the Lewis Sabbath, as the number of places keeping Sunday free for God has dwindled.

Well at least I know that it wasn't my computer or my aging ears. I didn't understand enough of it to get the meat of the message.

You'll have to get used to the strong welsh accent.
John. Do you have this video with subtitles?

I understood every 4th word or so. Got the jest of it though.
Ha!

I know what you say. He was my pastor for about six years and so I was getting slowly used to the accent, which is very strong.

You might find it easier on the "God's Love" video, which I just posted for ladybug on the "Hundreds of Bibles" thread.

BTW for friends in the USA, there is a written interview with Peter when he was in America, which is itself a most edifying discourse about God's power in the preached word. Having been at Peter's church for ten years or more, I know that what he says is all true, as I was a part of it.

Have you ever looked into geocentricity? It's intetesting what Scripture has to say on the topic  With your love of creationism I think the study would be up your ally. I know my view is in the minority but it's the conclusions I've come to after reading Scripture.

I don't have a statement of faith. Why does it matter? It shouldn't be difficult for my questions to be answered? They are really good questions.

Hi Elmer, I think what some have been asking for in this thread and another is your personal statement of faith so they can understand and go from there. You seem to keep dodging the questions. Are you afraid some won't like your answer? The way I look at it is we all came from somewhere/something, of which, not much was good, so feel free to express your views and who you're aligned with in order to give a proper picture, and they can go from there. Nobody will give you a difficult time unless you try to push false doctrine with a closed mind. Like I said, we we all something/somewhere else once.

Thanks Rodney, for the verses, that is. Pretty amazing to me. Old new that I guess nobody thinks much about anymore...an enormous globe, spinning perfectly to support life and suspended on nothing...oh, and remains in place without floating to and fro.

I would think that if the devil wanted mankind to believe the "creation" took place over millions of years, it might just help his cause during the "day of grace" if men ignored the Sabbath, seeing it was ordained as part of the seven day creation of the heavens and the earth. This would do nicely, and it may explain why so many professors are now denying the young earth. Of course, the devil had no chance during the old covenant, because the Sabbath was regarded then as most important.

Just a thought I had this morning.
____________

St Michael,

You're right.....this would be a VERY long discussion. And it could turn out well, if someone came to saving faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, who died that we may live, and arose again that he may be a Living Saviour and Lord to those who accept him, turning from their sins to serve the one, true God; who is no doubt one God but in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Thanks for the reply
And Please forgive me
I apologize that I didn't make it clear what I was asking

I wanted to get an understanding on the basics of what you believe, not just about the Sabbath, a mini statement of faith if you will and what is important to you

With myself for a glimpse into what I believe, even though I was raised Roman Catholic I believe anyone who is devoted to, loyal to, "serves" Roman Catholic teaching fails badly on what it is to be faithful and obedient to what God Himself actually teaches and reveals to us in the Bible...this would be a very long story/discussion and eventually touch things like the Bible itself, the new birth, Believer's Baptism, Calvinism, the Charismatic Movement, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, Israel and Islam and a lot more

Hi John UK. Nearly time for my bedtime now. Yes, we treat Friday as a preparation time, then depending when sunset is, might have a study before bed with some of our older children. Next day, we either have people come to our house or go to someone else's, usually having a meal together.
Has GOD given us peace in this? I think so. I don't think we could go away from the Sabbath now without a guilty conscience. We truly believe that we've been led to this point and to go back on it would be akin to rebellion (for us). It's still difficult, though, knowing we're different to many people that we respect.
Hello MG, and thanks for that testimony. It sounds as though it has become an important part of your life, and that can only be a good thing. Maybe one day I'll take the plunge as well, although as you say, it is not so easy; however, if I become convinced it is right, I will not hesitate. Pleasing God is far, far more important than pleasing friends.

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and UPHOLDING ALL THINGS BY THE WORD OF HIS POWER, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

I appreciate your testimony of (in my words) shifting into an observance of honoring the Sabbath

It does go against the grain, the flow of the invested institutes of religious traditions (aka churches)

And I mean no disrespect to churches that are doing their best to serve the Lord as I know all too well I myself personally have so much learning and growing to do

Biblicist: Isaiah 40:22 says the earth is a circle. The word for circle can also mean sphere. Job says that the earth is suspended with "nothing".
