Is Evangelism Going Out of Style?
Gospel tracts, sidewalk evangelism, street preachers with bullhorns‚ÄĒall of these things seem like evangelistic efforts of yesteryear. But if this seems true, where does that leave the state of evangelism today? Is faith-sharing a fading practice, or does it simply look different today? In all their innovative efforts to engage culture, have Christians left this ancient practice so integral to their faith behind?

Barna Group has charted evangelistic practices and attitudes for more than two decades, and the latest study sheds light on the gaps between evangelism in theory and practice, the social groups who are sharing their faith the most, and the surprising ways economics color one's outreach efforts.

When asked if they have a personal responsibility to share their faith with others, 73% of born again Christians said yes. When this conviction is put into practice, however, the numbers shift ...

I was in McDonalds today going to the restroom. Some fine christian had left precious gospel tracts on the toilet tank, the urinal and on the sink. Wow! What a great way to witness! I can contemplate my eternal destination while relieving my bladder. So much better than actually talking to people.
It is totally superfluous where gospel tracts are left as long as individuals pick them up and read them and decide for themselves whether to start trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. Verbally informing individuals that salvation comes only through trusting in Jesus alone for salvation is good. But leaving gospel tracts in a lot of locations informs more individuals at one time that salvation comes only through trusting in Jesus alone for salvation then verbally informing individuals.

Good morning Christopher - bore da (that's welsh)!

I'm still here, but I've been studying church history and getting to grips with the Reformation and its children. It is quite complex, because some say the Reformers were the good guys, and others say they were a murderous, persecuting people.

Of course, reading books on the subject is difficult in itself, for everyone has a bias towards their own tradition, and it is easy to get waylaid.

I have just discovered online a booklet I read many years ago called "The Trail of Blood", which is most revealing and enlightening. It does not show the Reformers in very good light.

Also, in regard to the thread subject, I have recently heard of an elderly couple who are still holding tent meetings around my county and beyond. I am hoping to find more information about them, and see if I can be of any assistance to them in their gospel campaigns. They are old school evangelists, keeping things simple, but preaching the gospel of God's grace towards sinners lost. "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners."

John, you may have convinced yourself of that but it was only to make yourself feel better; to make an excuse. You couldn't be more wrong, especially when it comes to witnessing. Tracts will never replace the spoken word. Neither will typing out a line or two about embracing Christ in other forums.
Verbal communication is not the only way of informing individuals that salvation comes only through trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. Written communication can also be utilized in informing individuals that salvation comes only through trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. The only thing that matters is that individuals are informed that salvation comes only through trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. If salvation tracts are left in various locations for individuals to read then they are informed that salvation comes only through trusting in Jesus alone for salvation. If they choose to trust in Jesus alone for salvation then fine. But if they don't then nothing can be done about that.

Merry Christmas, John. I think passing out appropriate tracts that also lead someone back to the Bible believing preaching church is a great idea. A tract won't save anyone, and neither will a stock prayer on the back of a tract, but I think they are beneficial for those searching and also to counter the many lies, misunderstandings, etc, that Satan has crafted.

Regarding the comment the gospel can be spread through literature and not just by mouth: can and has this happened? Yes it has but is that an argument that it should be done this way? No that is using subjective reasoning and basing a conclusion from your reasoning. But what is God's prescriptive will for gospel proclimation?
Matt 28:19-20. 2 Tim 2:24-25. 2 Tim 4:1-2. 1 Peter 3:15. God's will is that we go and preach the gospel and not just hand the unconverted literature. Look in Acts 8:30 He sends
Well if one who is Born Again is shy then they would have to inform individuals that salvation comes only through trusting in Jesus alone on discussion forums and by placing salvation tracts in various places.

Of course it's going out of style! There's too many denominations and they all can't agree with one another. They all have a different plan of salvation and theology. It's got to be confusing to a nonbeliever to know what's what. Then they hear believers arguing amongst each other who's doctin correct.

The idolatrous party-hearty church is too happy to care. The majority of Christians who sip Starbucks, kick back in stadum seats and watch the live band won't even notice.
