Billboards to proclaim Jesus' return on May 21, 2011

According to 20 billboards to appear Monday across metro Detroit, Jesus is returning on May 21, 2011. And if you aren't saved, it isn't going to be easy, says the Christian Web site behind the billboards, which are to read "He Is Coming Again!"

The goal is to convince people to accept Jesus and that the Bible is the infallible word of God, said Allison Warden of Raleigh, N.C. She's with www.wecanknow.com , the site putting up the billboards along with a Christian radio network, Family Radio.

Acts 1:6-7~
So when they [the disciples] had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”
He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority."

I think that settles it. (Totally not to mention the several other passages that speak of this in the gospels, of course.)

...return May 21 2011 - BUNKUM!

"Coming now to Rev.20,

First, it is significant to notice what is not present; there is no reference to a temple (there is a temple in Revelation; it's in 21:22), no reference to animal sacrifices, no reference to fulfilling land promises, no reference to a period of total peace and harmony (it is in chapters 21 & 22), no reference to a restored Israel, and no reference to the Davidic reign of Christ on the earth (but see 22:3). The only way one sees these things in Rev.20:1-6 is to put them there, i.e. it is to engage in eisegesis, not exegesis. But what I do notice, however, is that the thousand years involves the reign of Christ with martyred souls (v.4) which, leads me to conclude that this millennial reign occurs in heaven (the place where the martyred souls and the thrones are located elsewhere in the book of Revelation) while church history with its accompanying tribulation and spiritual warfare is developing on earth (again, an application of contextual interpretation)." PS. "Rapture" theory is a fraud.

Lurker, very good comments about the false teacher, Camping. A Presbyterian commentator of the 19th-century had this to say about, ]]Matthew 24:36
Albert Barnes wrote:
Matthew 24:36:
Verse 36. But of that day and hour. Of the precise time of the fulfillment. The general signs of its coming have been given; as the budding of the fig-tree is a certain indication that summer is near. But the precise time is not indicated by these things. One part of their inquiry was, Mt 24:3 when those things should be. He now replies to them, by saying that the precise time would not be foretold.

Knoweth no man, no, not the angels. Mk 13:32.

One of Camping's many props to shore up his false date-setting is the assertion that the sealed book of Daniel 12 is the bible and more specifically the supposed secrets hidden in the bible revealed only to him which allows him to predict the date of the end.

The problem with this assertion is that the book is not opened until the end. Revelation 20 teaches that the book is the book of life and is opened upon the great white throne judgment. Revelation 10 teaches that it is opened at the time of the sounding of the seventh trumpet which marks the end of "the mystery of God".

Isaiah spoke of the time when the mystery of God would be finished and Paul quoted the same (1 Cor 15:54) tieing it back to the seventh trumpet and the second resurrection (1 Cor 15:52)...

And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken. (Is 25:6-8)

I used to love listening to Harold Camping back in the 80s. Since then, his doctrines and focus have changed so much I barely recognize him now.

As a fairly new Christian back in 1988, I Almost fell for "88 Reasons Jesus will Return in 1988". Since then, I have matured in the faith, read my Bible more diligently, and have rejected dispensationalist teaching.

Yes, I believe Jesus will most definitely return again. But if the Son of God doesn't know the hour of His return, how could we?

The best possibly remedy for Believer's is to remember the words of our Lord; "Occupy until I come". If we are busy about His kingdom work, we won't get bogged down and paralyzed with prognisticators.

Observe:
How about that.
I didn't know Paul lived till the 19th century.

"Dispensationalism is a Protestant evangelical tradition based on a biblical hermeneutic that sees a series of chronologically successive "dispensations" or periods in history in which God relates to human beings in different ways under different Biblical covenants. As a system, dispensationalism is rooted in the writings of John Nelson Darby (1800–1882) and the Brethren Movement."

Mazin what you's learns around here bro.

Irrelevant.

The saints are "caught up" (1 Thes 4:17) at the second resurrection which takes place at the end of the seventieth week (Dan 12:2); when Michael stands up and utters his voice (Dan 12:1, 1 Thes 4:16); when the book of life is opened (Dan 12:9, Rev 10:2, Rev 20:12) by which all will be judged (Rev 20:15, John 12:48); when the seventh trumpet begins to sound (Rev 10:7, 1 Cor 15:52); when....

The seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become [the kingdoms] of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. (Rev 11:15)

.... which, obviously, is after the limited reign of Christ of Rev 20.

You and others need to let go of tradition and believe what God teaches.

For HIS TRUE CHURCH At THE PRE-TRIBULATION / PRE-MILLENIAL RAPTURE OF THE CHRISTIAN ELECT OF GOD
Aaaww now c'mon fellas you are not going to repeat this preMill fiction, this fable, from 1830's Margaret MacDonald, of flying Christians, 1000 years instead of eternity

"premillennialism is unbiblical; it is exegetically and theologically inconsistent with the clear teaching of God’s Word. Those who defend premillennialism can do so only by disregarding the many passages which teach that the resurrection, final judgment, and delivering up of the kingdom to the Father occur at the end of time. The rise of premillennialism in evangelical churches coincided historically with the rise of unbiblical pietism, Arminianism, dispensationalism and retreatism. Ideas have consequences; if Christians do not believe that God’s moral law is binding on the nations; if they believe that the world still belongs to Satan, that Christians cannot win in history, that believers are not responsible to apply the Word of God to all areas of life—then they will be attracted to a system of eschatology that teaches defeat and falsely leads people to believe that they are free from their social responsibilities." Sorry. Sounded like a prediction of the future to me. As to your personal comments, I will ignore them since they come from ignorance as you know nothing about me or how or where I serve the Lord.
And I Will Ignore All YOUR Personal Comments Likewise: As They Come From IGNORANCE As You Know NOTHING About Me Or How Or Where I Serve The LORD !

Nonetheless, The FACT REMAINS:

NO MAN, ANGEL Or "MESSIAH" KNOWS THE "DAY AND (OR) HOUR" WHEN THE SON OF MAN, THE SON OF GOD--THAT IS, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST--IS COMING AGAIN !

JESUS CHRIST Gave Us All A Command: WATCH !

"Watch Ye Therefore: For Ye Know Not When The Master Of The House Cometh, At Even, Or At Midnight, Or At The Cockcrowing, Or In The Morning...

And What I Say Unto You I Say Unto ALL, WATCH." MARK 13:35-37

This Is Why THE APOSTLE PAUL Wrote To TITUS:

"For The Grace Of GOD That Bringeth Salvation Hath Appeared To ALL Men,

Teaching Us That, Denying Ungodliness And Worldly Lust, We Should Live Soberly, Righteously, And Godly, In This Present World;

Looking For THAT BLESSED HOPE; And THE GLORIOUS APPEARING Of THE GREAT GOD AND OUR SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST;" TITUS 2:11-13

Mark 13:31-33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

If the angels of heaven do not know and Jesus himself does not know: Why do these people, think that they know the day of Jesus' return?

My concern, is that when this date passes, people will see and mock. When people give false doctrine so publicly, it affects the way outsiders see Christianity. When unbelievers have more reasons to mock, it's like a poison that keeps people from the knowledge of salvation. I believe these perhaps well-meaning people putting up the billboards: Are doing a disservice, to Christianity and to God's Word.
