Protestant pastor on the job hunt? Good luck in this market
Too many preachers, too many small churches and a bad economy make this one of the worst job markets for Protestant ministers in decades.

According to the Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches, there are more than 600,000 ministers in the United States but only 338,000 churches. Many of those are small churches that can't afford a full-time preacher. Among Presbyterians, there are four pastors looking for work for every one job opening. It took Hildebrandt six months to land a spot.

This is a real turn around from the 90s. I don't remember the exact figures, but the proportions were about the same, with that many more churches in need of pastors, compared to pastors avaiable. One thing, no doubt, that has reversed this proccess, has been the closing of so many churches. Some closings have been due to the ecomomy, some closed, no doubt, because they didn't want anyone besides their family and friend there, of couse those all eventualy died or moved away. Many smaller churches close because they can't compete with the big budget entertainment churches, and of course, some are closing because they are staying true to the Gospel and Biblical Worship, and there is no Market for churches that don't entertain these days.
So, no doubt, with fewer actual churches, there will be more preachers without a church. And many churches without pastors feel like they can take their time about getting someone. They feel like there will always be pleanty to choose from. So they take months and years before letting a pastor know wheather he got the job or not.
Johnathan Edwards would probably say this is evdence of God's displeasure is against our land.

I don't see the problem, doesn't the Bible teach the parity and plurality of the eldership?

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

Yes sir mon, I've seen them go from "Pastor" to "Pashur" when their niche in the "market" is being tested. One said it was God's will for all of us to get married, conceive children, and have a career that will pay for houses and vehicles, as if the time is without question going to be prolonged.

Isaiah 30:20 "And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers: (21) And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. (22) Ye shall defile also the covering of thy graven images of silver, and the ornament of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence. (23) Then shall he give the rain of thy seed, that thou shalt sow the ground withal; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shall be fat and plenteous: in that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures. (24) The oxen likewise and the young asses that ear the ground shall eat clean provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fan."

First Paragraph reads....

"By the time she graduated from Vanderbilt Divinity School in May 2009, the Rev. Kara Hildebrandt could translate a passage from the Greek New Testament with relative ease and write a sermon like a pro.
Then she hit the clergy glut."

Maybe there are far too many Liberals clogging up the market and God is not providing congregations for them to teach heresy, fallacy and abominations too.

1Tim 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

Proverbs 4:19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

Matt 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
