School board rewrites US history with lessons promoting God and guns
Cynthia Dunbar does not have a high regard for her local schools. She has called them unconstitutional, tyrannical and tools of perversion. The conservative Texas lawyer has even likened sending children to her state's schools to "throwing them in to the enemy's flames". Her hostility runs so deep that she educated her own offspring at home and at private Christian establishments.

Now Dunbar is on the brink of fulfilling a promise to change all that, or at least point Texas schools toward salvation. She is one of a clutch of Christian evangelists and social conservatives who have grasped control of the state's education board. This week they are expected to force through a new curriculum that is likely to shift what millions of American schoolchildren far beyond Texas learn about their history. ...

"History students are now to be required to study documents, such as the Mayflower Compact..."

Proper pedagogy, historical truth, etc., the reading of our countries founding documents should be required reading once again.

I can remember a day when students where required with more than simple reading but an added requirement might be rote memorization!

It does look like there has been some historical revision not only in text books but in t.v. shows as well. It seems like this lady is just trying to put back in some things that were taken out by people who want us to believe that America was always secular.

Though Columbus was probably no villain, I would hardly call him a hero either, unless one considers founding the Spanish Empire to be a great feat. They imposed Catholicism by force on Central & much of South America. Remember also that American gold nearly wiped out the Reformation (financing the Armada & Parma's suppression of the Dutch). I suspect few history students get this line, whether in "Christian" schools or not.

And unsubstantiated attacks on Lincoln of late (accusing him of being some sort of statist) have not come from "liberals," but pro-South "conservatives."

Wait a minute. The liberal agenda is who re wrote the text books years ago, deleating God and Christians from involvement in out country. The title to this article is liberal double talk that tries to make christians and conservatives look like interlopers that are trying to re write history. When in fact, they are trying to restore what the history books originaly said.
I can remember the time you spoke of. Then Prayer in school was deemed unconstitutional. Then in a few years, any christian involvement was taken out of textbooks. Soon Columbus, the Pilgrims, Washington and Lincoln were either made to look like secularist, or evil people that wanted to dominate the world. Today christians are made to look like idealolical terrorist that want to force their morality on others.

False dilemma, and if intended as sarcasm, unproductive as well.

And just what is the "Majority Report"? Surely you don't mean the one published in Britain on Poor Laws in 1909.

That's the trouble with American conservatives - they want to replace one faulty, idolatrous curriculum with another. Many flag-waving Christians seem unaware that the Biblical model of historiography is, tell the whole truth & nothing but the truth, whether it glorifies America or not.
That's right. And the only way we can tell the whole story is to obscure the Majority Report in order to call attention to the poor down troden people that history has forgotten such as Cultist, Occultist, Athiest, Incest, and early socialism. We need to make these thing main page.

What is the Guardian guardian of?
Why Mike, they are Guardians of the "mind set" of your favorite reprobates - the Liberals.

"Guardian readers were Labour Party voters; according to another MORI poll taken in 2005, 48% of Guardian readers were Labour voters and 34% Liberal Democrat voters. The newspaper's reputation as a platform for liberal and left-wing opinions has led to the use of the epithet "Guardian reader" as a label for people holding such views." {Wiki}

So you see Christians do not read the Guardian, unless they attend the C of E and are "happy" people.

"critics say that closer scrutiny reveals a not-so-hidden agenda." (the only critic so far is the aforementioned flake)
"Conservatives have been accused of an assault on the history of civil rights" (No accusers are named)
"It is as if they want to render minority groups totally invisible. I think it's racist. I really do." (same liberal flake, drawing on the racism card when there is no substance to an argument)

What is the Guardian guardian of?
