Archbishop of Canterbury concerned at US approval of more gay bishops
Dr Rowan Williams had travelled to America last week to urge liberal clergy there not to do anything that would jeopardise the fragile unity of the Anglican Communion.
But clergy and lay members of the Episcopal Church of the USA have now effectively agreed to overturn a ban on homosexual bishops that was imposed to stop the 80 million-strong global church breaking apart.
Anglicanism has been edging towards schism since 2003 when the Episcopal Church of the USA, the national church in North America, ordained the Rt Rev Gene Robinson, who is openly homosexual, as Bishop of New Hampshire in defiance of tradition and Biblical teaching....
