6 'Soulforce' gay rights activists arrested at PBAU
WEST PALM BEACH — Six gay students' rights advocates were arrested Monday morning as they tried to attend a chapel service at the private Palm Beach Atlantic University.

The students, who are members of the group Soulforce, were charged with trespassing - a second-degree misdemeanor that carries a $250 fine - and loaded peacefully onto a waiting West Palm Beach police van.

It was a showdown, of sorts, that had been brewing for months after Soulforce in April asked to visit PBAU during a tour of Christian schools in the South.

PBAU initially denied the request, then suggested the two sides meet privately on campus. ...

at07peace ~ I must say the way Becky worded her post was indeed confusing, which led to responses from myself and Rogerant. Her exact words, "I knew that by simply preaching the Gospel at these people, I would not change their lives. I firmly believe in building relationships in order to bring others to Christ" The muddiness of this comment is what prompted a response from me. We must make sure to 'get it right', sticking to what is written and allowing the Holy Spirit to move if we truly want to have an impact for Jesus Christ.
This is a very vague comment, and can {and was} easily be misinterpreted. That is what this is a case of, lack of clarity, NOT an attack on a fellow sister in Christ.
Let us keep in mind Jude 23, 'And others, save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh'. We must be careful as we witness, not getting too comfortable...after all, we are still in this flesh.
May God strengthen us as we walk humbly with Him, serving Him and bringing glory to His name.

Becky, I want to apologize. I feel like we all agree that homosexuality is an unhealthy, sinful lifestyle (and I don't think you are really ignorant enough to believe it's genetic.) We agree that there is a growing problem and we would like to do something about it.

I feel that the whole problem with this original article is the rate at which the issue of homosexuality progresses, and the liberal light in which it is portayed. Instead of doing any good in attacking a problem, we have attacked a bystander, who we now know, has a great desire for doing God's will in love.

Acts 20:27

Thanks for having such a desire. I am so sorry we based our opinions of you on a snippit from an article and not on who you are in Christ. Thanks for making yourself known and speaking up even though it put you in the line of fire.

Becky, I could not agree with you more! God does use each of us differently, and ultimately it is all for His glory.
Homosexuality is misunderstood by both lost sinners and born again children of God. Many say it is genetic, but in actuality, it is birthed out of lust {as is all sexual immorality}. Matthew 15:19 is a powerful teaching from our Lord on what lies within the hearts of man. We tend to think of homosexuality as 'more sinful' because of its perverse and vial nature. It is indeed a severe sin because of the destruction it causes to the individual, as well as the breaking down of the moral fabric of the culture. When God's ordained structure of 'family' is overtaken by perversion, society goes downhill fast. Sexual sin is always more devastating; even in 'straight' relationships and marriages, when the spouse cheats, the end result is not good. When a sodomite is turned over by God to a depraved mind, it is always fatal. God turns them over to the perversion they refuse to repent of, and the penalty is costly {Romans 1}.

We all must continue to pray fervently for the lost.

Finally I get to enjoy reading disagreements between christians but using love and encoragement to do it.

Lyn - I don't think that the Gospel is "powerless." I believe that I "preach" the Gospel through my actions, as well as through words, when the timing is right. And it sounds like you have a great testimony to share about being a former homosexual. Praise God! We all have our ways of helping lead people to Christ. I build relationships to show His love, while ministering to their needs. When the time comes, I share the Gospel, and whatever happens is in God's hands. I feel this reflects Jesus' words to feed the hungry, visit the lonely, and clothe the naked. Some people don't necessarily agree with me. Which is ok. If we understand that Christ is the only way to the Father, and do our best to bring people to Him, then our lives as Christians have served a great purpose. God uses people in different ways, and it is not up for us to decide who is doing it correctly. Also, I feel my faith has been strengthened by my interactions with those who are different from me- not by what they've taught me, but by what God has taught me though those experiences, as well as what He teaches me through His Word. I believe that if we ask to grow, God gives us experiences to help us grow.

There are many on these boards who are experts at "the Law". Especially those who have a personal distaste for homosexuals

You know who they are. Whenever a forum on homosexuality is posted on Sermon Audio, they are right in there quick to judge. But I don't see them posting anywhere about the rest of the sins on the lists. Wherever homosexuality is listed as a sin for keeping us out of the Kingdom of God, so is coveting and other sins such as church gossip.

God was more concerned with the church (Israel) focusing on their self righteous character than He was on the sins of the reprobate.

My understanding of BG is not that befriending homosexuals strengthens her, but taking time for God to use her in interactions with people who'll stand against the truth she holds firm to. (Never said she's afraid to hurt feelings either. If media hasn’t distorted her words, we have.)I disagree about the condemnation. There's a lot of time wasted on Christians criticizing Christians in these posts. There's anger in there, too. That I find to be contradictory to the example of Christ. Jesus rejected the religious leaders who thought they were better than the “sinners”. Becky never said she's a life changer, but she seems to be aware of God's desire to work through His people, & we can help or hurt. Thank You, God, for giving us Your Spirit to work in us and through us. May we never hinder that work by our attitudes.
I'm fat, & battle daily with gluttony, no better/worse than homosexuality. I desecrate what God has given me. So glad that people LOVE me enough to guide me to make good decisions. The comments about me looking like the wall of a barn never helped. I don’t like the homosexual lifestyle. I'm most often sickened by the idea. However, I love those close to me who struggle with it. They're fearfully & wonderfully made like me. I want them to know truth & joy in Christ.

at07peace ~ first of all, no one is condemning, or beating down anyone. We cannot 'take matters in our own hands' and think we can save anyone. If Becky wants to make a difference, then let her give the Gospel, that is the ONLY way a lost sinner will be saved. Let's not forget to tell lost sinners their need to repent, and believe in the Gospel.
God uses His word to save, the Holy Spirit convicts a lost soul of his/her sinful condition upon hearing the Gospel. Salvation is of the Lord, we are not responsible for the outcome, we are only responsible for proclaiming the Gospel.
I am a former homosexual saved by the grace of God, not because somebody wanted to be my 'friend', or didn't want to hurt my feelings, but because Almighty God broke through my sinful, proud, deadened heart and saved me. After I was brought to my lowest point, the grace of God saved me, His word is changing me daily. I praise God for His grace, His mercy, His Son.
How is befriending homosexuals going to grow one's faith? That is insane! The only way faith increases is through prayer, the word, going through trials and tribulations and learning from the word how to deal with them as they come.

Let's not forget Acts 20:27.

My guess is that this was (as usual) a liberally slanted media representation of a students opinion. I am sure that the publication wants people to believe that Becky, and so many others like her, think that homosexuality is valid and worth "checking into".

It sounds to me that Becky isn't a liberal Christ follower with a desire to pursue or even accept homosexuality, but someone with a genuine desire to reach out to people who are living in lies.

I understand Becky's desire to want to grow her faith through being around other people. The longer we pursue life in our Christian bubble of life condemning people, the more we look like this. . . a group of supposed Christ follwers insulting and attacking one another instead of being axamples of Christ, you know, the One who condemed the religious leaders and ate with the "sinners" (as if some people are not sinners. . . )?

I am not to sure that her comment in this article portays Christ followers in a poor light. I am much more concerned to see the comments here that so openly beat down a person (Becky) with a genuine desire to make a difference. Maybe if we took this energy we spend criticizing and used just as much energy to reach the people who are so lost we'd being serving God's purposes better.

Lyn is correct Becky!!!

We strengthen our own faith by turning to Christ by reading His word. Listening to lies of the devil does not educated us in truth.

No where in scripture does it tell us to meet with people where they are in life. They are in bondage to sin. We can't meet them there. Preach the Gospel to them and trust in His word and His Spirit. Only He can release them from bondage.

We are not to preach people the Gospel to change their lives. We preach them the Gospel because we are commanded to preach to the lost. God does the rest.

How can a sinner convince someone of the nature of Christ, through their own sin nature? You can't.

You seem to be saying the Gospel is powerless to change a lost sinner. Romans 1:16 differs with your statement, "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the POWER of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek".
You will not change anybody, you or I do not have that kind of power. Ephesians 2:8,9 makes it clear how salvation works, God's grace. Only the word of God holds the power to change and transform a life. You may very well establish a friendship with lost sinners, but unless the word of God is given, we cannot expect a lost sinner to see the seriousness of their sin, the need for repentance, and the glory and beauty of the cross.
It is a shame you were taught to avoid people who were different; but that may have stemmed from 2 Corinthians 6:14. We should be very careful as we reach the lost {Jude 22}. Without proclaiming the Gospel, no one will be saved {Romans 10:17}. May the Lord guide all of us as we proclaim His truth.

For the record, I'm Becky Goodlet. I have grown up in the church. My father was a pastor for almost 30 years. I have been taught my whole life not to avoid people who are different than myself.

The reason I wanted to speak with the SoulForce members was to strengthen my own faith. I believe it is good to know what other faiths and ideas are out there in order to be strong in one's own faith. It would be ignorant to not hear their stories.

Also, I believe that Jesus met people where they were in life in order to save them. I knew that by simply preaching the gospel at these people, I would not change their lives. I firmly believe in building relationships in order to bring others to Christ. While I don't agree with their lifestyle, I'm not going to be ignorant of what they do if I ever want to try to bring them to Christ.

It cannot be overemphasized too strongly, that there can never be any common ground or "discussions" with deviant perverts, whose goal is to deceive young impressionable Christians, accepting them as fellow believers. College administrators need to take a strong stand against Soulforce. When they step on school property, have them promptly removed from the grounds. You can't dialogue with the devil.If you have any doubts, GOOGLE "Soulforce". This is a well organized group, whose goal is to infiltrate College campuses, and poison the minds of our youth.

Acts 2:38 ... Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

If Becky Goodlet wants to say anything to the sodomites, lesbians, etc.. THE WORDS THE LORD PUT ON PETER'S HEART ARE ALL THAT IS NEEDED !!!

Oh the pain of free speech. We are a disgrace to the world. Islam is a hateful religion but can you blame them for not wanting to have to deal with this abomination and the exporting of in their countries by so called Christian countries.
