Va. chaplains quit over new prayer policy
At least six of the Virginia State Police's 17 chaplains have resigned following a request they offer only "nondenominational" prayers during department-sanctioned public events and ceremonies, police said Wednesday.

The request was made by state police Superintendent Col. W. Steven Flaherty earlier this month and has been decried by Virginia House Republicans as a violation of the First Amendment and an attack on Christianity. One Republican delegate said chaplains were told they could not invoke the name of Jesus, but a state police spokeswoman denied the assertion. ...

That is totally false that Catholics do not read the King James Version of the Holy Bible. I am a Catholic and I own and read both the Catholic and King James Versions of the Holy Bible. And it is totally false that the Catholic Church does not believe in the biblical and historical Jesus. The Apostles and Nicene Creeds which are the Statements Of Faith of the Catholic Church states "WE BELIEVE IN ONE LORD JESUS CHRIST THE ONLY SON OF GOD". So knock off this insanity that the Catholic Church does not believe in the biblical and historical Jesus.

Isn't it like satan to make Jesus political. They forget He was here from the foundation. Me being raised in a roman catholic famliy I know first hand they do not read our Bible the KJV. There is NO Jesus in their religion. He just hangs on a cross to be merchandise. We need to pray for the governor of Virginia, Tim Kaine, he is being led astray. Our police like all worldly leaders need prayer. God is putting us Christians through tribulation to weed us out. We need to be separate, read our Bibles daily, and look out for sheep in wolves clothing. Satan has an agenda and the more souls he can turn from God he thinks he might win. But we born again blood washed Bible believing Christians KNOW as long as we keep the faith our God wins, amen! I am sorry I gave no scripture but there is plenty for this and what the Holy Spirit lead me to say, amen! Our leaders have it where it is wrong even wicked to say Jesus Christ. Yea, we are so close to Gods wrath, amen!

Jim, it looks like you didn't read my post carefully at all. "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

Neil, you are right, you notice the only thing that the Apostle Paul said about politics,

Romans 13:6
For this cause ye pay tribute also; for they are ministers of God’s service, attending continually upon this very thing.
7 Render to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due ; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

and,

Matthew 5:41
And whosoever shall compel thee to go one mile, go with him two.

JFB Commentary wrote:
41. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain—an allusion, probably, to the practice of the Romans and some Eastern nations, who, when government despatches had to be forwarded, obliged the people not only to furnish horses and carriages, but to give personal attendance, often at great inconvenience, when required. But the thing here demanded is a readiness to submit to unreasonable demands of whatever kind, rather than raise quarrels, with all the evils resulting from them. What follows is a beautiful extension of this precept.

"mixing religion and politics is always bad"

This vague proposition doesn't accurately summarize my view. It depends very much upon what you mean by "religion" and "politics." Of course I deny there should be any authoritative or financial relationship between the gov't & organized church, but that's not the only possible meaning your proposition has.

I agree with you, Neil, mixing religion and politics is always bad. However you have to have Catholic priests to be working their magic our those misguided sheep.

John 10
7Jesus therefore said unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All that came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9I am the door; by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and go out, and shall find pasture. 10The thief cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. 11I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd layeth down his life for the sheep. 12He that is a hireling, and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, beholdeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf snatcheth them, and scattereth them : 13 he fleeth because he is a hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd; and I know mine own, and mine own know me, 15even as the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Non-Christian prayer would also have to be avoided, such as invoking the name of Mary.

What is the Biblical justification for chaplains receiving gov't pay? Sounds Erastian to me.
