Catholicism - A Hate Crime in Canada?
“If one, because of one’s sincerely held moral beliefs, whether it be Jew, Muslim, Christian, Catholic, opposes the idea of same-sex marriage in Canada, is that considered ‘hate’?”

The question was not rhetorical. Nor was it theoretical. Fr. Alphonse de Valk, a Basilian priest and pro-life activist known throughout Canada for his orthodoxy, is currently being investigated by the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) — a quasi-judicial investigative body with the power of the Canadian government behind it. The CHRC is using section 13 of Canada’s Human Rights Act to investigate the priest. This is a section under which no defendant has ever won once the allegation has gone to tribunal — the next stage of the process. ...

Lance, It isn't 'silly', your evading the question, because scripture does not say any one denomination is the 'church'. You can't prove from scripture yours is, so you skirt around the issue. Again, the church, or 'called out ones', is a people called out of darkness by God from every part of the earth into the body of born-again believers, the bride of Christ...He being the chief cornerstone, the head, the great shepherd, the overseer of our souls.
stacyjoe- excellent commentary!

Lance Eccles, according to you “There is only one church, so there is no need to specify.” Now I’m a bit simple, therefore, could you please “specify” for my edification, what church that would be?
As far as I am aware there are hundreds if not thousands of different churches, denominations, sects, etc., all having different doctrines and many unable to agree about who Jesus was. (Some denying that Jesus was God come down in human form.)
No, all churches are not the same and the Bible warns us to be careful of teachers who roam like ravenous wolves devouring Christians who do not have a good grounding in God’s word.
Finally, we should always check EVERY doctrine that a church may teach against what is taught in the pages Bible to see whether it be of God, for Satan has his own ministers who lead many astray.

A silly question, enough already. There is only one church, so there is no need to specify.

It's not "Where does it say not to?" but where does it say how God wants us to worship Him, etc?
The Bible tells us how to worship God and it's not up to you or me to decide how to do so.

So, the Catholic Church "is the only truly Christian Church", you've got to be joking, the Catholic Church is nothing but paganism dressed up as Christianity.
Where does it state in the Bible to baptize a child by splashing some water on its head or mention purgatory, to celebrate Christmas, Sunday worship, prayers to Mary, confessing to a priest and hundreds of other heresies? The Catholic Church puts tradition above the Word of God and Jesus and as stated before, is nothing but “paganized” Christianity. Stop trying to defend the indefensible.

Yet another Romanist denial of the Scriptural qualifications for an elder in a true NT church which teach: "A bishop [overseer] then must be blameless, THE HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach...One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)" (I Tim 3:2,4-5) Indeed, how shall he?

But not so in Rome where at every opportunity she denies the clear, plain, simple teachings of the Word as she changes the truth of God into a lie. And because of this God has given up her priests and nuns "...unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet." (Rom 1:26-27)

Be it known, God and His word are never mocked.

Lance, Can you show us from scripture where God states the Roman Catholic Church as the ONLY true church? Not a roundabout answer, but a direct quote from holy word of God as proof to back up your claim. I am not asking for proof from man-made doctrine, because ALL man-made doctrine is subject to error. Please use passages from God's holy word that SPECIFICALLY state the RCC as the ONLY true church.

No one is forced. It's a free choice -- as I'm sure I've said often before. Nor is it unnatural.

Choice 1: Become a celibate priest/nun/monk.
Choice 2: Stay in the world, but remain celibate.
Choice 3: Stay in the world and marry.

And to your tedious claim that the Catholic Church is not Christian, I reply that it is the only truly Christian Church. All others are in heresy or schism, have defective doctrines, and cannot save.

I don't have a hangup on celibacy, Lance, my hangup is about the Catholic Church forcing what is an unnatural condition for many men and women, I much rather see priests and nuns make a ]]Pilgrimage From Rome, as this ex-priest did.

I Timothy 4

The Roman Catholic Church is not a Christian institution.

Jim, you have this very big hangup about celibacy.

It may not be your personal choice, but it's not unnatural. Why not accept that people are free to embrace celibacy as a way of life? I know people who do.

There are those who attempt it and fail, but huge numbers succeed and are very happy for it.

We should point out to still confused that one the Catholic priest (or nun!) lives an unnatural lifestyle, ]]Clerical Celibacy, celibacy can only be carried out by a Christian, which of course these people are not, ]]The Scandal of the Catholic Priesthood, and of course Protestant churches do not work so hard to keep these people from civil prosecution and cover up their activities by having errant priests from one parish to the next, ]]Hand of God.

I ask , why is there so much anti-Catholic malice on this site? Surely they have a wrong theology, but secularism, Word of Faith & other groups are much worse in their theology- or lack thereof Christian principles. We are to speak the Truth about Sola Fide, SOLA SCRIPTURA, etc. in Love. But so many times, beleievers come off as spiritual thugs who do not reflect the peace of Christ.
Whatever this priest is going through, the evangelicals can expect the same & when you are on the street & the "Good Catholic" helps you, wheres your theology taking you then. We have enough problems with hate crime laws without really commiting hate crimes in our minds. Christ warned us if we have commited violence in our spirit, it is as if we commited it physically. Shalom in Christo.
