Your Catholic Friend wrote: It's great that you've started reading the Bible. We, Catholics, have been doing that for centuries
Here is a quote from an EX-Catholic.
"Growing up as a Roman Catholic, most of the things I learnt about God were taught to me as rules from a priest. I realised this when I started university and met some Christians who weren't Catholic. They asked me what I believed - I told them, almost parrot fashion. Then they asked me why I believed these things. I'd never been asked that question before! I said, "Because the priest told me"...But my answer didn't seem very good for a first year university student. When I asked them why they believed the things they did, they opened up their Bibles and showed me. Someone had taught these students how to understand the Bible for themselves, rather than just rely on what a priest said." "For me leaving Catholicism ended up being a process of growing in my trust of God's Word and losing my trust in the Catholic church." If the Roman Catholic "church" can actually read the Bible then why is it you practice so much false religion, heresy, idolatry, icon worship, relic worship, dead sinners worship, etc etc etc!!
"In the Lord's Supper, all the partakers at that table grant and confess themselves debtors unto God, unable to refer thanks for the benefits which we have received of his liberality. In the papistical Mass, the priest alleges that God is a debtor to him, and unto all them for whom he makes that sacrifice. For he does affirm remission of sins to be obtained thereby; and in that the Mass is blasphemous to Christ's death." (John Knox)
Your Catholic Friend wrote: how was he saved since there was no trace of Sola Fide or Sola Scriptura?
Blimey, the poor old Roman Catholic doesn't know how people are saved!!!
No surprise to the Christian of course...
All that idolatry, heresy, works based religion and unBiblical practices demonstrates that they are prevented from knowing the truth.
1Cor 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, NOR IDOLATERS, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
Just look at the grouping in which we find the Roman Catholic IDOLATERS in!!
Your Catholic Friend wrote: Additionally, with the parallel collapse of mainline denominations and thus the end of a Protestant teaching authority, all of this would leave your founder, John Calvin
Oh Look the pot is calling the kettle black. The recent revelations about how many homosexual Roman Catholic priests there are floating about in Rome etc, never mind the paedophile priests and bishops who "serve" the Roman Catholic 'church' and Vatican....
The Roman Catholic cult with its Idolatry Iconolatry maryolatry (and the worship of toast) Statuettes worship (Graven images)
Relics:- [[Items directly associated with the events of Christ's life (manger, cross, etc.), or the physical remains of a saint (a bone, a hair, skull, a limb, etc.). Traditionally, a martyr's relics are often more prized than the relics of other saints. Also, some saints' relics are known for their extraordinary incorruptibility and so would have high regard. Parts of the saint that were significant to that saint's life are more prized relics. For instance, King St. Stephen of Hungary's right forearm is especially important]]
The worship of dead sinners The evil unBiblical mass
Yes truly this organisation is led by the antichrist.
Your Catholic Friend wrote: Since there's no central teaching authority in Protestantism, there's no one to say that certain books shall (or shall not) be in the Bible canon
Still cutting God out of the scene eh Roman Catholic. Your works based religion appears to affect everything you think say or do.
GOD said John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."
I suppose the Holy Spirit does not have a part to play in Roman Catholic theology and doctrine. He must be neutralised by the RC philosophy? Is that Roman doctrine?
Your Catholic Friend wrote: Note that Protestantism has no process nor central teaching authority to define heresy or apostasy
What the Roman Catholic is saying here is..... Note that Protestantism has no (MAN MADE) process nor (HUMAN) central teaching authority to define heresy or apostasy.
But the Protestant - real Christian - goes to the Bible and finds that God teaches..... "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." John 16:13.
Poor old Roman Catholic excludes GOD yet again.
There are many religious sinners who read the Bible but cannot receive the truth.
2Thes 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
Your Catholic Friend wrote: However, why is there a need for so many disagreements? If Protestants had a common Gospel Summary (e.g., the Catholic Church's Nicene Creed) or the equivalent of our Catechism of the Catholic Church, perhaps your disagreements, schisms and divisions (AKA denominations) would be more infrequent.
As per usual the Roman Catholic excludes GOD from the process. But then that is the basis of their works based religion.
The popish "church" worships unBiblically the idolatry of dead sinners, maryolatry, iconolatry, statuettes and relics. Thus their "graven imagery" religion is unGodly, not Spirit led, unScriptural and reprobate.
Since Roman Catholicism can be clearly seen to be non-elect, we can use this as a means by which we perceive the true Biblical Christian doctrines and Spirit based faith, worship and witness.
But sadly in this fallen world "many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of." 2Peter 2.
