QUOTE" And all people, they believe, have not only the freedom but the responsibility to interpret the Bible as it speaks to them and to seek God on their own terms."Its obvious to me that the author is not a Baptist. As a Baptist myself,a sin hatin,Bible thumpin, devil kickin independant FUNDAMENTAL Baptist,I don't seek God in my own terms at all. The Bible teaches we are to conform ourselves in the image of Christ, and it is never the other way around.Only a liberal looking in could ever make such a statement. My church has a 12 foot tall(large for our area)sign in front that says one word in capital red letters, BAPTIST.I helped lay the brick border for it 5 years ago,as far as church membership, ours has grown since we built the sign,by about 35 families. Our membership since we built a new auditorium in 2001 has doubled from 200 to 400,we're thinking about building another.People are saved almost every week in our church we Baptize new members often. We have visitors in every service, including most Wednesday night prayer meetings. I say that God was right when He chose the folly of preaching to spread the Gospel. It still works, every time. Solid Biblical Preaching and good testimony build churches, not names. Therein lies their problem http://www.eastmesabaptist.com/ |
