“ Great Sermon! ”
You just caused me to wash my laundry at home. I surely don't want people to see my dirt. Then when they are as clean as I think they should be, I'm going to address everyone who is indebted to the one who died for us. SPEAK EVIL OF NO MAN. Al Sharpton is man. Now what needs to addressed is how Black people can continue to keep silent when they see Black on Black crime. Also, white people need to notice how many non Blacks are being murdered at the same rate. The Gospel is the power of God to salvation. Let's make believers out of everyone we see.

That would be the current democratic plan for universal health care plan as seen everywhere it is practiced. People wait long months for help with their disease or condition (now there is real compassion) and life saving drugs for terminal diseases are withheld or not funded.
, "The Republican health care plan is this: 'Don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly.'" Congresssman Alan Grayson, Florida 8th District.[/QUOTE]

to brother Jim from Lincoln who inaccurately stated that the Republicans helped shape Obamacare.

"EVERY REPUBLICAN IN CONGRESS VOTED NO (to Obamacare) In the House, Republicans were frozen out from the start. Three Chairmen—Charlie Rangel, Henry Waxman and George Miller—holed up last spring to write the most liberal bill they could get through the House. Republicans were told that unless they embraced the "public option," there was nothing to discuss."

No matter how the liberal LA Times tries to distort facts or how you try and twist the truth , Obamacare is solely the responsibility of the democrats. As for Planned Parenthood, "The House just approved Rep. Mike Pence’s amendment to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood, checking off a hot-button social issue even as it set up a bigger showdown over defunding the health care law.

The vote was 240-185 with 11 Democrats voting for the amendment, and seven Republicans voting against"

Neither party is perfect but the advocates of Obamacare and Planned Parenthood would not call republicans their friends or democrats their enemies Maybe you need your memory j

Jim Lincoln wrote ...Remember what the Bible said public prayer

Not sure what your are trying to say. There are multiple incidents of public prayer in both the Old and New Testaments. Private prayer in the public view got Daniel thrown in the lion's den. Our Lord prayed both publicly and privately. If our only motivation is to be seen of men and garner there accolades, verily we have our reward.

Well, I would much rather they recite the Lord's prayer than start their day out saying there is no god but allah and mohammed is his prophet. It may not be an exercise of faith from their heart but at least they are quoting the awesome, living, and powerful word of God.

Thanks for your response, nyp. However, nothing I said addresses the topic of Sola Fide or justification by faith. While justification will always produce sanctification yet there is no sanctification without justification. No work of sanctification will produce justification. I suggest you read Ryle's great work on the topic, available in mp3 format here at Sermon Audio (starting with the 3rd installment) or better yet read it at http://www.gracegems.org/Ryle/h02.htm

The Scripture is full of "one another" commands, love one another, be kindly affectionate one to another, admonish one another, bear one another burdens, forgive one another, comfort one another, exhort one another, pray for one another, confess your faults one to another, etc. We are commanded to obey them that have the rule over us as they watch for our souls. Hard to do all if you are only sitting at home watching your favorite preacher on TV or "worshiping the Lord" in the middle of the lake fishing or just enjoying private prayer time. The believers in Acts enjoyed church so much they went everyday! Unless one is providentially hindered, they should not forsake the assembling of themselves together. Only pride would make one think he or she could purposefully neglect the teaching/preaching of the Word, the fellowship of saints, and the duties of corporate worship and not hinder their spiritual growth. Church membership does not earn anyone a home in heaven, as it is not by works of righteousness that we have done that brings salvation. However when we walk in the light as He is in the light and hunger and thirst after righteousness, we will find church attendance a very profitable means of grace for growing in the Lord that should not be neglected.

Brother Jim was not trying to give you a hard time about your preference in versions, sorry it came across that way. We both agree that the responsibility for training the child in way they should go lies with the parents of that child and they need to be actively involved in their learning and maturing process.

Thank God for Christians who are also school teachers. Thing is they don't control the curriculum. One that is based on secular humanism and that man is the measure of all things. That teaches there are no absolutes and that there is no accountability to God. The Scripture is clear, "How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!" (NASB)---your version of preference---While acknowledging it well to point out the importance of parental influence, it is ludicrous to think that peer pressure and school teachers don't have an influence on the child.

Isaiah 53 teaches that it was the work of God that caused our Lord to die for our sins upon that old rugged cross. The holy wrath of God was poured out in judgment upon our Savior for the sins of His people that we would be able to stand justified in His sight. The people involved and the cruel cross to which He was nailed, were just the instruments God used to accomplish His purpose. The Bible clearly teaches the culpability of the Jews, who even cried out "Let his blood be on us and on our children!" Matthew 27:25 (NIV)But as noted by the verse in Neil's post it was them simply fulfilling the purpose and foreknowledge of God. I Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed" (KJV)So, Jodi is quite correct in asserting that our sins, because they cried out for justice and the wages of sin is death, were the reason God the Son shed His blood at Calvary. Hallelujah what a Savior!!

You know, really not sure where all the controversy came from the story that precedes all the posts. It is a record in the Scriptures telling us of Christ's birth. We should rejoice in its truth.

From your first comment it appears you may have been commenting on the fact that he was praying in public. Our Lord prayed in public as well as many others in Scripture. I am glad to see that is a person in the public sports arena, brother Dirk notwithstanding, that is not ashamed to speak up for his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

As a former papist following Roman Catholic – I wondered at the hypocrites in professed Christianity as they had readily adopted,

The thing is I never make choices on what the Catholics do or don't do. The only mass I have been to was a Catholic wedding, didn't even know it was coming. I didn't go to a Christ's Mass, we don't bow down and worship the tree that is decorated. If our Lord's birth was good enough to send an angelic "choir" then have no problem celebrating it too. As I said before,a true Christian celebrates every day. Thanks to John for the admonition to share the gospel all year round and thank you for reminding us to live separate from the world.

So tell me, what is your strategy for sharing the gospel the rest of the year? Or do you imagine that the Great Commission is near impossible to achieve?
No, John, by the grace of God, I share the gospel year long. I am thankful for the openings Christmas gives to do the same. I am thankful that the birth of Christ is associated with giving and not with the destruction that is associated with Islam. I am thankful we see people under the preaching of the truth of God at Christmas who normally would not go. I enjoy the great hymns of praise that we sing usually at the Christmas season. If people don't want to celebrate the holiday that is their choice and/or conviction. If they want to decry it, the same can be said. I am just glad to rejoice with those who rejoice and have them join me in acknowledging the birth of the Lord. I believe it is something to celebrate.

As Christian we celebrate the birth of Christ everyday, because without it He would not have paid the price for our sins on Calvary. The fact that others to one degree or another honor that fact on Christmas is a blessing. It is much better the what is said about our Lord at other times. Paul rejoiced that the gospel was preached even if it was for the wrong reasons. I am not saying that Christmas celebrating is preaching the gospel so don't go there. We rejoice that people acknowledge the birth of the Savior. It opens doors to share the gospel that aren't always there. We live a world that celebrates the first advent of our Lord on December 25th, it matters not whether that was the actual day of His birth. We rejoice that our Savior came to earth and that others celebrate that. Romans 14:4-6a (KJV) Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it.

John 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

John 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

James 1:16-18 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Saving faith is a gift from God, if our works could somehow commend to God's grace, then the Lord Jesus died in vain. It is man's arrogance and ignorance to think they can accomplish something that can only be done by God. Salvation is of the Lord.

not sure how this discussion about whether or not the terrorist was a self-proclaimed Christian got focused on Bill O'Reilly's catholicism, however to quote the terrorist himself,
"As this is a cultural war, our definition of being a Christian does not necessarily constitute that you are required to have a personal relationship with God or Jesus," he writes. "Being a Christian can mean many things; That you believe in and want to protect Europe's Christian cultural heritage."
