“Gay M Allen from Wisconsin writes:
Can anyone recommend a good study bible, or bible publishing company? I'm interested in purchasing something that is not a Scofield or Darby inspired rewrite.”

My favorite study Bible to recommend is the Life Application Study Bible from Tyndale House Publishers. Good notes and resources, definitely worth it.

If you are looking for nicely bound Bibles, Church Bible Publishers is fantastic. I have several of theirs, have not worn a binding out yet on any of them. Cheaper than a Cambridge too.

Want to know what God thinks about this matter?

Just look at the last verse of the Old Testament. The very last thought that God leaves His special people with for 400 years was this:

(KJV) Malachi 4:6 - And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers...

Just a general comment, but it’s really interesting in Genesis 47 the progression of government control. Joseph in this chapter trades corn for money, then livestock, then the land and the people themselves. Not commenting on Joseph in a bad light in any way, but the progression of how the government used a bad situation to control the people incrementally is incredibly applicable to today. Is the “salvation” offered by the government really worth it? Governments always seek to make themselves bigger and more in control. Why? Because that is what the natural man does...

An interesting verse I ran across awhile ago:

Hosea 9:11
As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.

We see the whole cycle of the beginning of life here, and God walks us right back to the point of conception.

That’s great to hear, John Y. But it isn’t really a matter of Catholic doctine or Baptist doctrine necessarily. It is a matter of Bible...
When the Bible tells us:
Hebrews 9:28 - So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many...
Why go a service that tries to offer Jesus Christ as a sacrifice again and again?

For further thought:
2 Kings 17:33-34 They feared the Lord, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence.
Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the Lord...
“...AND served their own gods..”

Thanks, Dr Tim. I might drop in from time to time here. News and politics and lockdown matters are interesting and real active to us all, but maybe just distractions to real matters of salvation and Christian service.

Sorry to jump on you right out of the gate, John Y. Just can’t let something like the mindset of inclusion go... This mindset of inclusion, or having it the way God says it AND the way we want it is dangerous and destructive.
Notice in 1 Cor 10:21: “ye cannot”. Hard to get around that statement. Much of our problems stem from trying to have both the way we want things and the way God says they are.

Been reading this thread for awhile, first time leaving a comment.

For once, I actually agree with Jim Lincoln about something (his post below about Catholic Christians)...or you could just go straight the Bible to answer John Y’s mindset of Catholicism and Christianity:

1 Corinthians 10:21  Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

May God have mercy on us all this Election Day.

JOHN 15:18-23

If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.

He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

By nature we are weak and easy to rebel but with the help of the holy spirit ,praying, studying ,fasting and fellowship we leave no space for our natural selves or satan to leaf astray .

Good day. john uk, you'er asking me how to abide and receive light.....well first let me say I'm no scholar or theologian but what i can tell you is my personal awakening. i was born and raised in church baptized at the age of 10 ,confessed my sins, tought to pray ect. But none of that ment nothing to me until i was stripped of all that i thought was important to me. At that point and time it was either life(jesus christ) or death. so when i proyed my heart out to the father, it seem that life got harder. But the beautiful thing about it was that during my trials god's grace and love became more evident. but most of all i saw my sins more clearly. I started to understand my lords sacrifice and his righteousness(light).of course we must follow the word of god when it comes baptism and ect. but to observe those things and lack the moment of his calling is piontless.

True indeed. the events in the world are fortold but is also used as a distraction. We must abide in christ and keep a single eye filled with his light.
