It would appear to be so - Adam Clarke says "The whole of this doxology is rejected by Wetstein, Griesbach, and the most eminent critics. The authorities on which it is rejected may be seen in Griesbach and, Wetstein, particularly in the second edition of Griesbach’s Testament, who is fully of opinion that it never made a part of the sacred text. It is variously written in several MSS., and omitted by most of the fathers, both Greek and Latin. As the doxology is at least very ancient, and was in use among the Jews, as well as all the other petitions of this excellent prayer, it should not, in my opinion, be left out of the text, merely because some MSS. have omitted it, and it has been variously written in others. See various forms of this doxology, taken from the ancient Jewish writers, in Lightfoot and Schoettgen." John Gill states "This conclusion is left out in the Arabic and Vulgate Latin versions, as it is in Luk_11:4. It stands thus in the Jewish prayers (d), "for the kingdom is thine", and thou shalt reign in glory for ever and ever.'
Seems to me this doxology should be included; ascribing glory to God is always acceptable! |

This is what I found concerning the omitting of 'for thine is the kingdom...' from JFB "If any reliance is to be placed on external evidence, this doxology, we think, can hardly be considered part of the original text. It is wanting in all the most ancient manuscripts; it is wanting in the Old Latin version and in the Vulgate: the former mounting up to about the middle of the second century, and the latter being a revision of it in the fourth century by Jerome, a most reverential and conservative as well as able and impartial critic. As might be expected from this, it is passed by in silence by the earliest Latin fathers; but even the Greek commentators, when expounding this prayer, pass by the doxology. On the other hand, it is found in a majority of manuscripts, though not the oldest; it is found in all the Syriac versions, even the Peschito - dating probably as early as the second century - although this version lacks the “Amen,” which the doxology, if genuine, could hardly have wanted; it is found in the Sahidic or Thebaic version made for the Christians of Upper Egypt, possibly as early as the Old Latin; and it is found in perhaps most of the later versions. On a review of the evidence, the strong probability, we think, is that it was no part of the original text." |

Anne, may the Lord be praised for using you to expose the false teachings of SDA. As I read your comment, I saw nothing unkind at all. The accusations by John Jones are far from being accurate.
John Jones, if you follow the false teachings and salvation by works taught by your religion, you will not be in heaven. You must be born again, and that is not attainable by any religion, method, or work. Salvation is all of grace, given by God as His gift to whom He elects to save. Ephesians 2:8-9 clearly teaches how salvation is given, and how.
Christ died for the ungodly, making atonement for the sins of those who believe solely in Him. Those who trust in Him completely for the redemption of their souls, and not one thing else - no added work, no co-redeemer - these are the ones who will spend eternity with their Jehovah God. Only a heart changed by God can completely trust in Him.

So where do we draw the line? Is it permissible to go to crack houses, have needles filled with the 'drug of choice' on a table, and do a bible study? Is it permissible to allow marijuana, and other drugs like alcohol?{don't forget, alcohol is a drug that numbs the senses} Should we go into gay bars as well?
Yes, let's go to sinners with the Gospel, remembering we are called to be ' wise as serpents and innocent as doves' to which John Gill writes "The serpent is a very sharp sighted, cunning creature, and uses various arts and stratagems for its own preservation, and especially of its head; and is so far to be imitated by the followers of Christ, as to make use of all proper methods to preserve themselves from the insults and rage of men, and not expose themselves to unnecessary dangers."
We don't know what is being preached here, so honestly, none of us can defend nor speak out against this. In this day, a bible study does not automatically mean Christ was preached.I never stated I do not attend a church, so that needs no further addressing.
As for the accusation of being a feminist, I have heard it before. When men who profess Christ cannot defend with truth, they insult with names. How sad that any man who professes Christ must resort to this childish tactic. |

I have pulled my previous comment, because I have no desire to spend countless hours debating back and forth with you John UK. You live to debate on this forum; however, you won't drag me there. As for my sharing the gospel, I have sat with homosexuals, one on one, face to face, and spoke God's truth, and all I needed was God's truth. It wasn't a bible study, it was giving the whole counsel. Actually the churches are full of hypocrites, men and women who are superficial, shallow, and embrace sin. Many who are in Christ no longer attend church because of the aforementioned problems. There will be no further debate, I have my views and you have yours. We are called to submit to one another, to love one another, and not to continually, repeatedly 'debate', as you call it. The Bible does not forbid drinking, but does forbid drunkenness. To have a glass of wine with your meal certainly is acceptable. However, this seems to go beyond that. This is using a 'method' of trying to be relevant with the culture, which screams of seeker sensitivity. I question why the pastor thinks it's okay these men would not go to a church to do a bible study, but have no problem doing a study in a bar. We aren't called to drag the unregenerate into church, we are called to proclaim the Gospel of Christ to the lost. As for Jesus eating and drinking with sinners, that has nothing to do with the consumption of alcohol.
This could be a stumbling block to a weaker brother or sister; many have come out of the bondage to alcohol and drugs by the grace of God. God help us if we should cause them to stumble by putting them at risk.
Drinking should be in moderation, and only with those you know can do so. This is a very touchy subject, but we have to remember one thing, it is Christ and others we are called to consider first, and not ourselves. Mixing alcohol with any bible study cannot be supported by the word of God. |

First of all, I don't think anyone here is judging you, we are called to examine the fruit, which is done by looking at the doctrine one professes and the behavior displayed.
As for free will, we have the right to choose certain things, such as what we will wear, what color of dress we buy, etc. However, concerning spiritual matters, man has no free will to choose Jesus. We sin, not because we have free will, but because we are depraved and that is our nature. Adam and Eve's sin was a disobedience to God, based on temptation and giving in to it's lust. See James 1:13-14
Eve fell into sin because she lusted for the forbidden fruit,Eve was deceived by Satan. Since Genesis makes no mention of man having a free will,we cannot say, for to do so is to go beyond what is written by adding to the word of God.
There is no scriptural support anywhere that states man has the will to choose Christ, I have given you multiple verses that verify this truth. It is the pride of man that keeps us from understanding this truth. We want to take credit, but in doing so, we rob God of glory {Isaiah 42:8} because He is the One who saves, and He does so for His name's sake, so he receives all glory, and none goes to sinful man.I will pray for your daughter |

May I add that the Apostle Paul warned against 'another gospel', which is what your church is teaching when it tells sinners to come forward at the altar call and make a decision, or invite Jesus into their heart. The Apostle warns that all who preach 'another gospel' are to be accursed, or banned. Men are dead in sin, it isn't until God quickens, or makes alive, can a sinner hear and understand the truth of the Gospel. 'Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved) Ephesians 2:5
There are no scriptures that support or command altar calls, or a sinner's involvement in salvation. PLEASE, I beg you, read Ephesians 2:8-9, especially where it says, 'not of works, lest any man boast'. I am NOT trying to offend you, I am NOT trying to 'lord' anything over you or tell you what you should and should not do. The true Gospel is so watered down in most churches; it is loaded down with man-made methods on how to be saved. All this is dung, and saves no one; there is no power in the accursed gospel most churches present. God saves, by His will and according to His grace. Man has NO part in the saving of his soul. I am no theologian, all that I know did NOT come from me, it came from God. |

My intention is not to write down a legalistic set of rules, of do's and don'ts to follow. Everything I told you was backed by God's word. The apostle Paul encourages us to examine ourselves, to see if we are in the faith- 2 Cor. 13:5
Salvation is not based on how we feel; being born again is a supernatural work of God, where HE changes the dead sinner, He quickens {Eph. 2:5} " Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature" 2 Cor. 5:17
Are you trusting solely in the atoning sacrifice Christ made for sin to save you? Are you trusting in His death, burial, and resurrection as a propitiation for your sins? Has God done a work in your heart? Is there a renewing of the mind by the Spirit of God as He teaches you God's truth? {Romans 12:2; 1 John 2:20, 27}
Even the faith believers have is a gift from God, just as it states in Eph. 2:8-9. If you are trusting in anything you've done as a means of salvation, you are in error. When Christ said 'it is finished', He was stating a profound truth. We must trust in Christ for the saving of our souls, even if we suffer martyrdom, may our complete, full wholehearted trust be in His death, burial and resurrection. There is NO scriptural support for free will,see Eph. 2:1,5 |

the sad part is that most do not study the word of God. They will read it and take it at face value, there is no digging deeper. We start out being nursed with milk, as infants, but we must move on to the meat of the word. Growing in the grace and knowledge of Christ does not come by neglecting the studying of the word or digging into it. Not studying stunts the growth, and leaves one stagnant.
We read in Proverbs and in the Psalms,of seeking God's wisdom, searching for it, and for understanding, as one searches for riches. People would go to the ends of the earth to mine for precious metals, but how willing are God's people to cry out and seek wisdom, understanding and insight? Too many rely on the preacher to teach them, but beware. The wolves that are so prevalent in our day are disguised as what? Pastors, preachers, elders. May God give us hearts that pant, hunger, and thirst after Him, His truth, His word. |
