I think people here knew that mainline denominations were losing members, but may have not connected it to their positions on Social Justice. What is interesting about this article is the discussion of American Jewry losing members as well. Whether that is due to their position on Social Justice or just an aging population is another question. I have heard of 'non-religious' Jews who usually adopt a Leftist/Socialist viewpoint, or just go along with being Democrats. Mark Levin is one Jewish guy who is not on the Left, but he doesn't make his religion a big deal on his talk show. You just can't think of any Jewish evangelism going on.
The Japanese are dying out--more are dying than are being born, and they are very tough on migration. A new bill allowing greater immigration is under debate in their Congress, with a lot of opposition from the people. I saw a story on NHK News that gas stations serving smaller communities have to use robots to continue in service. And they do like robots, which was why they had the old comic 'Robot Boy' which in the US was called 'Atom Boy'
The opposite is what I have heard on the news, so this story is interesting. The main problem is that people think they are getting anything from the US govt. when the reality is that they are paying too much and then getting some of it back the following year. It's a loan they give to the US govt. without charging interest! Anyone who gets a big refund back should change their withholding to reduce the amount taken out so that they will get less of a refund or none at all in the next year. Why do people do this? They don't understand the 1040 tax form instructions since they turn it over to a company to do it or to a computer program. One thing I learned is how to report those famous 'qualified dividends' to reduce the amount of taxes you pay. It is very tricky and not clear in the 1040 instructions.
