Coach 438, That's a nice calm post: clear and even-handed, right to the point. My, but some of the posters here (note the one below yours) seem crazy. Not that AntiVaticanist's beliefs are crazy, but his rhetoric is certainly startling.

We read HP7 the day it came out, enjoyed it, and went on with our lives, and have forgotten about it. Nothing changed. The world-wide pervasive worship of evolutionism, on the other hand, is a daily problem everywhere. Funny thing is, if Dr. Dobson and other well-known Christians jumped where they belong (on the 6-day bandwagon), they could lead others who are weak in faith.

You miss my point. Veggie-tales says "look, here are Bible stories," and then makes Jonah into a cucumber. Harry Potter never says, "look, this is Bible truth." Harry Potter is fantasy fiction. (other people trying to make HP Christian by publishing reading guides or whatever doesn't make HP into an allegory. Reminds me of Tolkein's loud "NO" when asked if LOTR was a WWII allegory. He replied [loosely] Hello? It's a story!)

In re Alistair Roberts. Many thanks for your thoughtful treatment on your site. Harry Potter is delightful fiction in which good is good and evil is evil. Surely people can tell the difference between fiction and fantasy. That said, if a parent has not trained his child to discern truth from fable, he should get on with it!

Here's something really scary: traveling to California recently, we attended a church in which my children were shown a video in which a Bible story was turned into a morality tale acted out by cartoon vegetables. This blasphemy was the Sunday School lesson!
Leave Harry alone and chop up veggie-tales. This trivialization of the WORD OF GOD is a profound error.
