War is not addictive? Give me a break. There's been war at least as long as there has been pornography. Amanda is right. War is the obscenity! I like the way you started writing about America and ended up writing about "we". That's the problem guy, it's your "we" vs. "them" mentality which is prevalent when testosterone overcomes rational thinking. If it weren't for England there would be no USA, since that's where the invaders of Native America came from, and if it were not for France there would be no USA, since it was the French who helped the American "rebellion" against the King's lawful power. As for Israel, if they couldn't buy the USA they would have bought someone else. Their tentacles extend beyond mom, apple pie, and Chevrolet. As much as you Prots condemn Rome, you have a bit of the Inquisition in you all. You'll turn the world to Christ even if you have to kill them all to do it.
Now if the PCA would just respect the Westminster Standards a little more by not following the lead of the PCUSA in unlawfully, disrespectfully, illegally, removing the sentiments of the authors who declared in the original the belief that the Pope is the Anti-Christ!
I'll say this much for all of you - as a teacher, I give you all an A+ in history. No matter how you all interpret it differently, at least you know it, which is more than the more recent High School & College graduates can say. You must all be near your 50's in age. Younger folks (even with advanced degrees) probably can't even find Ireland on a map, let alone Pennsylvania.
It appears to me that the "troubles" are more about nationalism and national identity than they are about religion. I know the term "Scotch-Irish" is not used much in England-Ireland-Scotland-Ulster, but is it not an accurate statement that the Republicans believe that the Ulstermen are really Scottish people who were transported there by King James to create a "buffer" between the volatile Irish & England? I think that this is more of an ethnic & political antagonism than it is religious. After all, neither Protestants nor Roman Catholics can believe that this hatred & violence is God honoring! In any event, I believe that the recent actions have set the course for a recovery of the six Northern counties into the Republic within a generation. Both Roman Catholics and Main Line Protestants in Ireland/Ulster are liberal and progressive enough to merge for economic & political well being. The Fundamentalists & die hard Unionists will fight it, but their children will acquisce. As a descendant of the "Scotch-Irish" from Appalachia I am sad to see it, but I believe the fight is over and the Roman Catholic Republic has won. It's just a matter of time.
