Jim Lincoln, your comment about there being no Biblical support for an armed uprising against tyranny is wonderful...except for the fact of the whole book of Judges. More armed uprisings against tyrants than some commenters here have teeth, I'd wager.

“ Thanks ”
Thanks especially for making the PDF document available. Very provocative, and biblical. Even as a London Baptist, if any nation were to do as that doc suggests re: WCF, I'd load up the family and move there tomorrow.

“ Soli Deo Gloria! ”
Brother Baucham, as a rural SBC pastor, let me say that God has used this message to bless and encourage me. I resonated with the whole thing, and near jumped outta my seat a-shoutin' a couple of times. :) Especially, I wanted you to know that we are out here: the brothers who feel the same way you do, as you expressed in the last several minutes of this message. We want to fight the good fight. We need our brothers. We will struggle and sacrifice because we are thankful for where God has placed us in this (imperfect/flawed/deeply troubled) non-demonination.

“ A Cool Cup of Water ”
Bro. Mahan, I think it right for me to confess that God has used this sermon of yours to bless me today. Truly, it has been like cool water to a thirsty man. I am a bi-vocational SBC pastor, preaching through Ephesians. I came to Eph 1:4-5 last Sunday and simply related what it clearly says about predestination and God's unmerited favor. Long story short, that sermon was not well-received! Feeling some discouragement as I prepare to preach again from the same section. Your message has been a great encouragement to me, though my heart is broken for the people whom God has placed in my charge, and the hardness of their hearts toward the idea of Grace Alone. (I had one woman after the sermon tell me that she deserves to be saved, because she made the right decisions about Christ.) Thanks again for the edification, through God's grace. Keep fighting, strong brother.

Calvinism vs. Arminianism Debate

“ Fine Job Standing for Truth ”
There's nothing like an unbiased "moderator," eh, pastor? [sigh] This was a two-on-one "debate" and I appreciated that your answer, your recourse, was always the Word of God. I am so sick of the uninformed argument which says, "If men make choices then Calvinism can't be true," or, "Since I was seeking God, Total Depravity must be false." I got the feeling that your "official" opponent (not the pseudo-moderator) figured out fairly quickly that he was in over his head and tried not to say very much once that realization hit him. Pick on someone your own size next time, pastor. (Kidding.)

Every member of the military is taught that not only do they have the right, but the DUTY to disobey unlawful orders. Some on here act like a military member is never supposed to question his orders. Simply not true. The member is expected to know the rules well enough to recognize an unlawful order and he will in fact be held accountable if he DOES obey such an order. Rendering to Caesar is not an excuse for blindly obeying orders that defy the law (man's or God's.)

Obamas looking for a good church, eh?

I hear OJ is still looking for the "real killers," too. I won't hold my breath for either quest.

As an SBC pastor, my concern is that the title of this article seriously understates the case:

The problem is not that we don't focus on the Holy Spirit enough. The real problem is that many of our churches have abandoned the Gospel, and thus do not have one, two, or three Persons of the Trinity in their midst. It's not that we have One but not the Others: it's that we have none.

There is also the misnomer in the title, such that "worship" is equated with how or what we sing. Rather, when you submit your mind to transformation and your body as a living sacrifice to do God's will, that is the act of worship (or spiritual service) that ought to concern us. (See Romans 12:1-2)

Hey, if televangelists can do the same thing for Islam that they've done for Christianity in the West, then I'm all for this. (e.g. moving it away from what it has always been; denying central doctrines; watering it down; etc.)

I voted above average. Two suggestions for hitting "excellent."

One, if you're going to have a confession of faith or doctrinal standards for the site, then those ought to be enforced. Or else what's the use. 'Nuff said about that.

Two, the Comments sections have degenerated into the theological gutters of the internet. (Seriously, people laugh about 'em.) They are quite often contentious for the sake of contentiousness it seems. They have ceased to perform any helpful function. Either eliminate them altogether (best option) or get some moderators you trust to police them, diligently.

Nice thought, but since when is America governed by what the Constitution says?

Bad question.

Define "entirely sanctified."

If it means "sinless," then the answer is no.

If it means wholly given over to God, in spite of the fact that we may stumble, then yes.

By the way, Though I'm not a Methodist, Wesley gets accused of "perfectionism" though what he really taught is closer to my second definition above. It merely meant that there is no area of your life that you have quarantined, so that Christ cannot touch it and reign there.

WANTED: Someone willing to engage in charitable yet spirited Christian debate.

RESOLVED: The Pre-trib Rapture is a fiction.

I'll take the AFFIRMATIVE. I'm looking for a NEGATIVE to defend the view on a mid-sized Reformed blog.

Not about name-calling, but about civil, biblical discussion. You up to it?

Nate, good question, but my speculation is that he may be playing upon the technical meaning of the Greek prefix "anti." We've generally lost touch with the fact that it really has a dual meaning. On the one hand, it commonly means "against." But it can also mean that which fulfills or replaces something that came previously. For instance, Biblical "types" are replaced by their fulfillments or "antitypes." So a full-orbed Antichrist would be one who not only is against Christ, but also claims to replace Him, or stand in His stead.

By the way, this is why Protestants have historically been so enflamed by the Popish title, "Vicar of Christ," which is a claim to stand in the place of, or instead of, Christ.

rhymnrzn,

Nice try. "Armies" is used in Exodus 12:17 of the singular fighting force of one nation. How many nations came out of Egypt?

Strong's says this of the word in question: "a body of troops." Armies is routinely used the same way as the word "host."
