I wonder if somewhere in France, there is a group of churches who think they have discovered the Correct Version of the Bible (in French, of course), the one that God has revealed to them that he has protected and allowed to be passed down to today's date, without changing. That's about how I see the KJV-Only folk. I have no problem with them reading their favorite version. The problem is when they propose everyone across the world must use it. In that respect, they become more like Muslims, who believe that their Koran is only valid in Arabic. In fact, they are 'more Muslim than Muslims' because there is no dispute in the Muslim world about how you interpret this verse or that verse. They are fighting and killing each other over other issues, but not the Koran, which they don't read because most of them can't read Arabic. Meanwhile, the world continues on with bigger issues that have nothing to do with this issue. People drive down a road and a bridge falls on them. Kids go to school and a shooting gets started. People open a package in Austin, Texas, and..well, you can see how important this is as compared to these things. |

I think the KJV-Only folk are much like Muslims who think that the Koran can only be correctly understood in its original language, Arabic. "Ignoramus Emilkman" has just stated the KJV-Only position clearly, that is so amazingly similar to the Muslim position--that God preserved his word in this KJV. Logic for him would mean that no other translations are needed , or valid, whether they be in 'Contemporary English" "Today's English" "New International" or German, Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian, etc. Logic for him would also say that less time should be spent discussing or defending this, and more on teaching English to the many immigrants in the US who do not read English. If you love the KJV and want more people to read it, then why not teach them English? By the way, they really want to learn English. You can even get visas from Muslim and communist countries to teach English, but not as a missionary. |

I think most people have never heard of him, nor his father. Therefore, it may have made more sense to headline the story with "Son of KJV-Only Fanatic Kills Self." That would more correctly identify the story, for those few who are interested in KJV-Only matters. On that subject, I cannot leave without wondering why KJV-Only folk are not teaching English in their churches to the many immigrants in the US so that they can one day read and understand the KJV. Everyone knows that Bibles in any other language cannot be acceptable to the KJV-Only folk; just take, for example, the Spanish version for Psalm 23:1. Some say it reads, 'El Senor mi pastor es' but others say that is wrong, the correct version is, "Jehovah mi pastor es' I would guess the same things happen in other parts of the Spanish Bible, not to mention the Russian Bible, the Finnish Bible, the Dutch Bible, the German Bible, and so on. |

Attention KJV-only folk: if you really really really believe that the KJV is the Only True Bible, then no other language can be used, whether they call it "Today's English Version" or "Contemporary English Version' or Spanish, German, Italian, FRench, and so on. Therefore, the Best Thing for You to do is become a missionary in the US, right where you sit! No travel needed. Just go to your church and offer free English classes for all the immigrants in your area, so that they can learn to read the KJV. You can even use select verses of the KJV to teach English (John 3:16, the 'Roman Road' and so forth). If you are retired, you can teach every night of the week to the immigrants who work during the day. If they work during the night, then you can offer daytime classes. Imagine the impact you will have! |
