"Most of the fathers of modern science were Christians of some sort &believed in the God of the Bible, many believed in a 6day creation, but note-in some cases seeds sown in the 17th century &earlier sprouted apostasy in the 19th century as theological liberalism & Darwinian evolution. Gal.5:9, “A little leaven leaventh the whole lump.”

Roger Bacon, a RCC friar,is known as the father of the scientific method ;he wrote against atheism, rejected Aristotle’s philosophy which was promoted in English universities of that day, believed in a 6day creation, &said that human knowledge should redound to the glory of God. But he also set the stage for a rationalistic approach to science with his method of investigation in that he taught that man must depend upon his own investigations rather than any other authority, including divine revelation. He said it is “folly” to “build a system of natural philosophy on the first chapter of Genesis"Cloud
So--
"science" needs revealed truth-
Paul heard Epimenides, & evaluated him true(Titus 1:13)

Cretan Epimenides says ALL Cretans are liars. To Titus (a Cretan)Paul says this is true. Only by knowing the nature of "proverbial" statements can this be grasped as true: that is, generally true. Titus can overcome his tendency(2:15)

When an abstinence vow is needed

When you’re pregnant or trying for a baby-the more you drink when pregnant the greater the risk you are taking with your baby’s health. Miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth and small birth weight are all associated with a mother’s drinking during pregnancy. Drinking also increases the risk of the baby developing Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) which affects the way a baby’s brain develops.

The Department of Health recommends that pregnant women, or women trying for a baby, should avoid alcohol altogether.

..another very important reason for avoiding alcohol while you’re trying to conceive is that alcohol can have a particularly damaging effect on your baby in the very early stages of pregnancy – before you even know you’re pregnant. The only way to avoid this risk is to stop drinking before you start trying for a baby.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) additionally advises that the risks of miscarriage in the first three months of pregnancy mean this protects the innocent.

Sorry, may be you are taking the matter on a limb, as the point of the comments offered originally was NOT to explain the origin of the sin of drunkenness, but to explain how the individual rate of metabolism transforming alcohol into acetaldehyde, which is the actual susbtance causing all the physical alterations of behaviour, depended on the genetical predisposition of an individual.

"Finnish families, among whom probands were alcoholic offenders,..Results included strong evidence for genetic influences in antisocial alcoholism. Linkage was found at chromosomes 11p (location of DRD2 dopamine receptor), 4p (GABAA cluster), and 4q (ADH cluster), as well as sibpair linkage to the 5HT1B receptor gene "

These studies can confuse those unfamiliar with genetic studies -
They speak not of "disease" but of differences-
As we are encompassed within Adam & his fall, we can be sure we show that corruption- a wise person can search for these weaknesses to be on guard.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.Pr25:2

We can even learn useful things from ants. Pr6:6
That is useful sciAnts

mocked,
As I said, the question of personal wisdom to avoid problems down the slippery slope is one of wisdom vs foolishness.
A bit of humor was found in Titus 1:12 when I gave family history, hard technical science and demographics as upheld by Paul.
What I find amusing is that Paul is NOT quoting OT for analysis of Cretan weakness. He cited a pagan demographics analysis

]]Paul uses pagan demographics as truth source.

I said earlier that I ( and Solomon&Paul) don't explain AWAY sin that results from foolish associations -but as penned said-if aspartame gives people in your family headaches, wisdom& the Holy Ghost personally should make you avoid that irritation that might lead to you sinning in anger( or etc)-Pr 9:13 maybe-Headaches lead to clamorous fools.
"Paul is not quoting this non-Christian source as inspired, but simply as true. All truth is God’s truth, no matter who said it.

The same Lord Who wrote my Bible knit me together in my mother's womb. And in this fallen world we vary in tapestry.
"Nonetheless, truth is truth wherever it is found. And there is no reason, therefore, that personal direction is unwise here."

Albert Barnes, "native-born Cretans, there was need of the utmost vigilance in the selection of persons for the ministry. They all had well-known traits of character, which made it proper that no one should be introduced into the ministry without extreme caution. It would seem, also, from the reasoning of Paul here, that the trait of character here referred to pertained not only to the native Cretans, but also to the character of the Jews residing there".
Barnes in regards to Cretans looks about right( converts marrying into Jewish lines would mix in that predilection. )

The Bible use of demographics is clear here.
Wise to base caution on people groups at times.

Alliw me to ask you this, is God's word your sole and final authority, or do you think you can mix worldly wisdom in with His word?

Bible demographic data-
Titus 1:12 Henry comments
"The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. Even to a proverb, they were infamous for falsehood and lying; kretizein, to play the Cretan, or to lie, is the same; and they were compared to evil beasts for their sly hurtfulness and savage nature, and called slow bellies for their laziness and sensuality, more inclined to eat than to work and live by some honest employment. Observe, Such scandalous vices as were the reproach of heathens should be far from Christians: falsehood and lying, invidious craft and cruelty, all beastly and sensual practices, with idleness and sloth, are sins condemned by the light of nature. For these were the Cretans taxed by their own poets"
And Gill "And the Cretians are called, by the poet, slow bellies partly for their intemperance, their gluttony and drunkenness"
Bible demographics (before modern understanding of how isolated population illustrate the 2nd Law of thermodynamics in genetic breakdown) are enough to warrant looking at your own group's predilections. To be wise.
To not be a foolish slow belly, a Cretan should be cautious about what goes in that belly.

"How come native Americans and Aboriginals are in general more likely to get hooked on booze? It’s all because their bodies usually break down ethanol into water and acid way slower than the other races. Let’s first describe this process. When you drink alcoholic drinks the ethanol is metabolized (transformed) into something called acetaldehyde. This is being done by an enzyme in your body called alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). So the more ADH your body produces, the faster the process. Apparently a lot of Native Americans miss out on this enzyme (according to analysis on chromosome 4 and 11) and that increases the risk of becoming alcoholic.

Unlike the American Indians the Chinese and Japanese produce a lot of ADH. 85% of their population produces unusual high activities of this enzyme. Where Caucasians score less than 21%, African Americans less than 10% and Native Americans as well as Asian Indians 0%. "Link below

1 Tim 6:20 There IS a " science falsely so called"
The real science is technology such as genetic markers that explain obesity differences in population groups. groups that LOOK Caucasian differ- Genetic studies of Finns link to mongul invaders- and explain demographics.

2 explain from knowledge(science means knowledge) that you may be in greater danger of being ensnared? Yes.
Not explain away. Might even add to the sin as fools are warned that sin might be the end of going the wrong route. Pr 1:25.2:12

Not all foolish things are sins-
But the foolish lifestyle may end in sin
Pr9:6
Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding

A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing

Pr10:21
The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
Pr11:29
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
Pr13:20
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Drunkards are drunkards because they started to drink...There is a start to a bad path for someone who sees their clan filled with drunkards who swore they would not be entangled.

My brother started down a "black star" ski route and died
He went over the cliff - thought he could just slow down if he got into trouble. Gravity overwhelmed him as soon as he began.Wise warnings asked people to judge themselves as to the danger.
Judge yourself.

These are two instances of commanded abstinency in the Bible. The settings of the instances are God's service and separation unto God.
However, they are not the 'reasons' for abstinence, but rather we derive guiding wisdom from them to approve better things.
NOBODY is speaking of a two-tier Christianity, this is your or some others invention.
If you had taken time to listen to the sources suggested, you might had perceived something.
There is a slant of Christianity that looks on how far one can walk from principle without compromising godliness. There is another that loves to be as far as possible from any compromising scene to walk in freedom from sin. This is the difference.

I have dramatic family stories of lives destroyed by alchohol - they would read like overblown tracts - but they are my Grandpa, Uncles, brothers etc.
I am from a nationality well known to not be able to handle liquor.

Seeing this insanity I realized as a kid that the WISEST thing for me was to never have a drink. That way I would never find out the hard way I can't handle it.

Science shows genetic aspects of groups that would be wise to avoid any alchohol.
