Obviously, the reason for the split is the recognition of the Ukrainian church. This shows us that these Orthodox churches are really very nationalistic more than religious.
You might find their places of worship located in large and small US cities, but you won't find anyone but Russian people in the Russian Orthodox places, Greeks in the Greek Orthodox places, etc.
Sure, they all share the name "Orthodox" and there is even an "Orthodox Bible" out there, but they have no evangelistic outreach. The only reason Franky Schaeffer and Hank Handegraph converted were there own mental issues. No, they did not attend a big stadium event hosted by an 'Alexander Grahamofsky' where they turned their lives over to the Orthodox. No couple of guys in white shirts on bicycles came to their door to ask them about a strange warming in their hearts.
And no group of 3 or 4 gathered on a street corner with a rack of Orthodox pamphlets were there, either.

I guess this makes a social conversation, 'Are you married? Have any children?" somewhat obsolete. Now it will have to be, "Do you have any children?" and then "Are you married-single-divorced-living together?"

I don't see what one guy and his wife's conversion has to do with this story. You might as well throw in that Francis Schaeffer's son 'Franky' crossed over to the Orthodox church years ago. So what! It just shows you that Schaeffer, 'great evangelical theologian' that he was, had 0 control over his own family. He didn't even follow the Scripture that says a church leader should raise his children in the faith. If he fails that, then what can he be entrusted with? Other people? No way! Somehow, in the US, we think, well, at home everyone has problems, so let's not judge a man by his children. That's not what the New Testament clearly teaches.
As to the Russian Orthodox Church being the main subject here, I would proceed with much caution, since they have been linked to the govt for many years, and who knows what is going on there? Throw in the Ukrainians and you open a whole new can of worms!
Also, the source of the story, the BBC, is not some immaculate preacher of truth, but just another collection of leftists, no better than CNN or MSNBC. No doubt many are also communists from way back.

This is not a large group, for sure.
Some may wonder--why bother going to a church that affirms homosexuality and all the grab bag of perversions that goes with it? Why would anyone in their right mind even think of giving money to fund their pastors and staff and bldg maintenance? Of course, they are living off the past, especially from sales of their centrally located churches (remember the one in California that was posted here as a news item?).
It is well known that liberals do not support charities to the same degrees as conservatives. Think for a second--would they promote tithing? (not that even conservative Christians practice that, but at least some of them do).
Just like Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has few black law clerks in her office, liberals like to talk one thing but will not practice it.

Of course, that's why we have the lottery to collect tax from the majority who do not pay any federal income tax, and some even get money back (welfare without calling it that, instead, the ironically named "Earned Income Credit." I thought 'earned income' was what you get when you went to work. In this case, it's what you get from Uncle Sam for not having gone to work!
By the way, in all the reporting on the effects of Hurricane Michael, I did see the Capitol Update program from The Florida Channel mention that it changed the residents, 'easy and relaxed way of life.' I'm sure they knew exactly how much to work to keep getting their 'Earned Income Credit').
And a personal note for WP on taxes: would you loan $100 a month to your brother in order for him to give it back to you in January with no interest? There's a Bible verse here about talents that applies as well. The bad servant did nothing with the money that was left in trust to him. The same thing Uncle Sam is doing with the loan you are giving him.
Another way to look at it: you have from Jan to April to save $$ to pay the tax bill due April 15.

I don't think the Tyndall Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle is doing very well, either, after Hurricane Michael destroyed much of its hangers and flipped over a plane that was on display there. You can check out the video of it on the Accuweather website.
And, for the dozen or so readers of these comments, let me remind you that we are in Election Season. Many have received their absentee ballots and early voting will begin next week, at least in some parts of Florida. What difference does it make? Plenty---if you want President Trump to continue rolling back all the damage the Democrat Party did to this country before. There are plenty of judges yet to be installed, waiting for that same Judicial Committee (where its Democrat members made full-blown fools of themselves) to pass them on to the full Senate.

Check out the 'Capitol Update' program produced by FSU in Tallahassee at their 'Florida Channel' website.
They interview Mark Moore, a pastor of a church in Gadsden County, speaking of the damages and need for help in his area.
I never knew that "Mexico Beach" ever existed, so I had to go to a website to check it out with their 'man-on-the-street' view.

I guess this story will not be appearing on the Christian Post website, right?
It reminds me of a case of a famous philanthropist in South Florida, last name Frost, who has given millions for a science museum, Univ of Miami music school, and FIU art gallery, all of which are named after him and his wife. A recent news story was that he was indicted for insider trading in stocks.
His name still appears on the 3 places mentioned above. I guess that might change if he goes to jail--not likely, more likely-signs a plea deal, turns over a million in fines, case dismissed, tiny news story.
"How the mighty have fallen"
and "The love of money is the root of all evil" said Paul in his letter to Timothy, right?
And, since early elections are due to start in a week or so in many states, and absentee ballots have been sent out, let me remind the few that read these comments that 'Elections Have Consequences' and that, if you like what President Trump is doing and has done for the USA, it is time to support him by sending more Republicans to Congress.

Hmmm...Minnesota, eh?
may i guess that most of these patients are from overseas, say..Somalia? or had close contact with people from there?
Minnesota has a large population of Somali, thanks to the taxpayer-financed (yes, that's you and me, if you are part of the 49 percent of the US population that pays any income tax) program that paid the Lutheran World Services to resettle these refugees.
Yes, I know there are verses in the Old Testament about being good to refugees, but all that was written before Islam came along. I doubt the ancient Hebrews ever had to deal with a foreign people who would fake their obedience and later turn on them, attacking their women in the streets (because, remember, for many Muslims, any woman going out alone is a street-walker. They think women should be confined at home, under the control of their father or husband, and only go out in their presence. Remember that Saudi Arabia, the most perfect Islamic state in the world, only allowed women to drive cars this year.)

Hmmm..."multi-site" pastor...interesting!
i think this is the new model that the modern church growth experts have come up with.
i can't wait until we find a 'smartphone pastor' who only appears in 'cyberspace'
things are starting to look more like a science fiction movie every day! i need to watch "Sleeper" again to pick up more points.

This goes to show you that 'civility' is out the window. The unprovoked attacks on Republican legislators (remember the shooting at the softball game in Virginia of Rep. Scalise?)also shows you how important it is to not let Democrats occupy any office, whether it be local, county, state, or national. They are all part of a network that stands for abortion, gun control-confiscation, and open borders.
I hope that one thing church going folk who were not involved in politics before Judge Kavanaugh's hearing will learn from all this is that...they must get involved in politics! They need to vote out the Democrats. It is no longer the party of JFK or even LBJ.

This is really big news, since the station owes its origins to Camping. It goes to show you what will happen to your 'legacy' once you are gone!
I guess he could have put a restriction in his will, saying that if the stations stopped airing his program, it would be sold on the commercial market.
I have listened to the network online for its traditional music.

this item makes you want to look up your own denomination to see if it is a member of the NCC. i doubt many here will find that true, since it mostly contains the 'old-line' denominations.
it also shows you that 'birds of a feather flock together' in that they are liberals, so they espouse whatever liberal position they pick off of the mainstream media, and they may have a similar case of "TDS" (Trump Derangement Syndrome).
The confrontation last week on the elevator with Senator Flake had me suspicious from the start, and now they are finding the women involved are part of a Democrat organization, partly funded by George Soros.
All this talk of misbehavior is just a delaying political move. If not, why did Senator Feinstein keep the letter in her desk since July? (She may have even showed it to other Dems on the Judicial Committee just to plot a strategy, and allow others to get in on the action.)
It stinks of dirty politics. Dems do not care about women; don't you remember the "Move On' campaign that started after all the female accusers against President Clinton appeared? Even one of the Dem strategist on TV said, 'see what you get when you drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park?'
No one complained of his sexism then!

You might want to check the biography section in the children's section of your local library to see what the heroes are. I'll bet you'll find many minorities you've never heard of before. Check your children's reading lists if you allow them to go to a govt school.
No need to turn on the TV--it's all dominated by these sodomites.
Funny how a few cable-only TV shows made fun of people who may have bought more than 4 rolls of toilet paper at a time--they call them hoarders, the worst insult of these Modern Days.
Today, even psychologists call hoarding a mental illness, while, years ago, homosexuality was considered a mental illness, cataloged in their Diagnostic Manual.

Sodomite Republicans in Connect-i-cut? No news there; it's a very liberal state. I even think that S.A. has 0 churches broadcasting there.
CT always ranks high in surveys of high tax states, places you don't want to move to once you retired.

No need to worry about 'the poor' losing $400 a year to lottery, since, as has already been pointed out here, it's a tax, and since most Americans do not pay any federal income tax (and many of 'the poor' get money back from the IRS), it's another way to get into their pockets.
All is good.
God is in control.

Or, maybe we should be like
Psalm 131:1

O LORD, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty;
Nor do I involve myself in great matters,
Or in things too difficult for me.

I can't wait to see the headline, 'Richest Americans Lost Most in Stocks and Bonds, Small Businesses'
Many small businesses go kaput very quickly, costing the owners, many times rich folk, a lot of money.
And then there are the many 'financial advisers' telling them to invest in stock A or B, which can go down if the company's ad agency decides to use a former NFL player and a catchy slogan to promote their products. They could have analyzed that company from A to Z and still have no idea that the ad campaign would cause them to lose ten percent or more of their investment.

This is a sad piece of news, though it is logical, in a way. Rich people see no need to buy lottery tickets, but they will buy investment advice from unqualified people and lose even more than poor people.
So each kind of person is drawn in and trapped by a bait that is fitted to their situation, kind of like fishing.
And here's a good quote from the most excellent devotional, DAily Strength for DAily Needs:
"There is hardly ever a complete silence in our soul. God is whispering to us wellnigh incessantly. Whenever the sounds of the world die out in the soul, or sink low, then we hear these whisperings of God. He is always whispering to us, only we do not always hear, because of the noise, hurry, and distraction which life causes as it rushes on.
F. W. FABER.
