It doesn't surprise me ONE BIT that IL Gov. Rod Blagojevich & His Chief of Staff were Arrested by The FBI on Federal Corruption Charges This Morning !Back in 2002; when I was Circulating Petitions to Run For Illinois State Treasurer; I ran into his Father-in-Law, The Powerful 33rd Ward Alderman Richard "Dick" Mell, at a Starbucks accross the street from Chicago's City Hall. He asked me how I was doing. I said I was doing fine. He then told me how he was upset with Mayor Daley; telling me that the Mayor didn't have any "B----" in trying to run his brother, Bill Daley (Clinton's former Commerce Secretary), for Governor of IL. He then asked me if I was running for anything. I told him that I was circulating petitions to get on the Ballot for State Treasurer. He then told me that if I could raise between $50,000 & 1/2 Million "Big Ones" as a Political Contribution to His Son-in-Law, IL 5th Dist. Congressman Rod Blagojevich; that He (Mell) would see to it that I'd be The NEXT State Treasurer of IL ! I declined the offer. That was my First personal encounter with the "Pay to Play" Politics of The Chicago "Machine": The Dick Mell-Rod Blagojevich Chicago "Machine" ! Ofcourse, The Daleys & The Obamas have Their Chicago "Machines" Too ! BUT IN WASHINGTON D.C. ? ? ? |
