Why?!?! Why do this to yourself when the sacrifice of Jesus Christ has been done 2,000 years ago on their behalf? I think if I was there, I'd be holding up a big sign with the words "IT IS FINISHED!" on it. This has got to be one of the biggest disgraces and mockery of what Jesus already did. He said "It is finished!" and he is addressed as "the author and finisher of our faith."

People are putting their faith in something that cannot be proven to have a connection with the Lord Jesus. Now granted, Jesus didn't condemn a woman who touched his garment, but we have no proof this was one of his garments and we see nothing like this among the Apostles who would have had easy access to anything Jesus wore.

Osteen and his wife went off their rockers(if at all they ever were safely in their rockers) a long time ago when they adopted unscriptural means of adding people to the Church, so no surprise here.

Jim, yes, I read that one some time ago when you posted it before. After reading other sources, it is very honest and true. 1,700 years ago or prior to Constantine taking control, Christians had relative freedom to believe or worship and protest as they chose, but not so after Constantine and the decrees of his bishops were declared as the only acceptable statements of faith. There was just as much persecution after Constantine as before. It just shifted or took on a different form after he took control of spiritual things. Prior to Constantine, Christians were persecuted for simply being Christians. After Constantine particular groups of Christians were persecuted for not submitting to the doctrinal decrees of the Contantinian Church or what we know today as the Roman Catholic Church.

Jim, there was a time not long ago when I got a chuckle out of your mentioning of "Constantine's Church." However, after some research, I see this is true and no laughing matter.

Thankyou John. I have heard about the complexity of issues relating to the breakup of the Eastern and Roman churches. The Eastern churches maintain the Pope is first among equals, the key word being equal, but with universal jurisdiction being claimed by the pope(that he has a senior and not equal position), of course equality ceases to exist. From what I have read, this is also a reason the Eastern churches abandoned the Roman church. Of course, another was over the Nicene Creed and changes being made to it. The Roman church accepted the changes while the Eastern churches declared all bishops must give consent before embracing this change.

Gingrich should maintain true faith by submitting to the Holy Father in heaven and not the Holy Father in Vatican City.

Nevertheless, John. Read up on the Eastern Orthodox and independent Catholics and other ancient groups of Christians. They challenged the pope's claim to universal jurisdiction. Obviously the popes believe they have the right to some kind of supposed control of all Christians. If this is not what it means, then please, by all means submit what is the offical RCC understanding of this universal jurisdiction of the Pope.

What trash! How much worse can it get?!?! No wonder we have so many leaving the Christian faith for something else. Trying to console the concience without repentance and forgiveness for sins committed...a different gospel.

John, it is the doctrine of universal jurisdiction. Of course he is unable to rule everybody because there is yet enough freedom to reject the doctrine without being forced, but nevertheless, this is a doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church and it is one reason which explains why the Orthodox and independent Catholics(not to mention Protestants) removed themselves from this communion.

Actually Lance, Constantine and his bishops and later the Pope and his bishops were intolerant of other interpretations and have propagated persecutions against those who believed differently. Thus we have the Constantine Catholic Church, what we know today as the Roman Catholic Church.

It's a school of the Contantine Catholic Church(the papal Greco-Roman or simply Roman Catholic Church)! Constantine and his bishops treated harshly those who differed with them in faith and doctrine. The persecution began 1,700 years ago shortly after Constantine came to power and called a council of bishops to establish their own doctrine with the persecution of those who differed. Obama should point this out to those at Notre Dame, since people like him many centuries ago(granted if Obama is truly Christian) were persecuted for holding a different point of view.

Hi John UK. Thanks again for the dialogue. I have been away from SermonAudio for a time, but the last few days doing some research and I am absolutely dismayed at how the Constantinian Church(what I call the RCC now) has persecuted people who differed with it..and I am not talking just about the Lollards, Waldenses, Luther and John Huss.....go back 1,600 years! Why this was witheld from my understanding until now, I don't know, but I don't see how I can ever again enter a RCC house of worship without my conscience bothering me. I am pretty well convinced now that the pope attempts to replace God with his claims of primacy, universal jurisdiction and infallibility...and the Holy Father title. Never before has this been made so clear to me as it is now. Actually though, I think I know why this is revealed to me now...I had been contemplating returning to the RCC.

The Pope is regarded as infallible, the universal ruler of Christians, the prime bishop and Holy Father(which is how Jesus addressed God--John 17). Sounds like a god of sorts to me, so no surprise to see numerous conversions to the RCc and the pilgrimage of Roman Catholics to Rome.

Evangelism is important, but this is seriously hampered with liberal ecumenism. Protestant churches need to get back to a strict submission to the Bible alone and quit their attempts to reconcile with the Roman Catholic Church. History shows that since Constantine took the reigns and the RCC was concieved, people who differed in faith and doctrine from the RCC have been persecuted.

Thanks John for your response. So are you of the Calvinistic Methodist persuasion? I find the name rather intriguing and read about them to learn more.

I think you make a good point, Jim. The Constantinian Church(Roman Catholic as we know it) has been in the business of attempting to exterminate other Christians since the time of its conception and earlier. At least this is what I have concluded in my research. Yet despite the Bishop of Rome being a god of sorts(he is their Holy Father and claims primacy, infallibility and universal control of the professing church worldwide), it suffers from unbelieving liberals and other progressives from within.

In light of this, it is my obersvation that the RCC's doctrine of the infallibility of its popes and councils isn't an improvement over the doctrine of Scripture Alone.
