Allie, I am with you on the basis of not knowing where Moore is going with this, I'm not used to baptists being nuanced in how they speak of our place in society. I'm very cautious where his discussion will lead too. I do think too many American Christians church became the RNC. That we allowed ourselves to let others speak for us and it's had results for the gospel is left wanting. Irregardless of the current cultural storm, Christianity has always either led the way toward constitutional form of governance or has helped end tyrannical rule. My caution with Moore is that his articulation of being " kingdom builders" has a litmus test for the local baptist church. When in fact the local church is autonomous and decided it's own ways of preaching the gospel. , missionaries, finances, cooperative assistance and community presence. The local church, as unpolished as it is , is the tip of the spear for the gospel. That said, having South eastern seminary speak for the whole of the Sbc is bit too catholic for my tastes. Having one voice is rather undemocratic given the historical basis for a congregational led denomination. |
