I have actually found the media coverage of this more prone to detail than to leading ones conclusions. They have given enough info to draw right conclusions based on God's word and as US suggested bring all to a sober reflection of the brevity of life, eternal realities and God's mercy.

Appreciated the Scripture NeedHim. This psalm has often been a comfort to me.

LL/L Isa 30:17 One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one; at the rebuke of five shall ye flee: till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an ensign on an hill.

Amo 5:3 For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.

Deu 7:17 If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?
Deu 7:18 Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;
Deu 7:19 The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid. See context precept with promise.

Looking at the side bar a sermon title drew me to another sermon title that seemed related to my thoughts from this news site. http://www.sermonaudio.com/playpopup.asp?SID=102515912573 10/25/15
Stephen Hyde - Four Judgments for Idolatry from Ezek. 14

He exhorted individuals to heart searching for idols. Taking it to heart, my heart smote me concerning self preservation. I know I have weakened after last winter for fear of another and allowed compromise to creep in. O that the Lord will keep me faithful, a true disciple. Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, *yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.*

The Lord has shown me that I cannot save my life, it is not in my power neither eternally nor temporally Ephes.3:16-21

Jer 12:5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

May the Lord pity his little flock known to Him this Lord's day and be our Rabboni, our hearts are known to Him better than to us. We cannot see what he does not reveal to us.

to continue with the opportunity John gave me...

I do expect a quickening again of the Church as is indicated in Rev. 11 and the breaking away from the Roman apostasy by one of the western nations, so affecting others and Rom.11:15 For if the casting away of them (the Jews) be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead? (revival and reformation)
Rom 11:16 For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
Rom 11:17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
Rom 11:18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
Rom 11:19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
Rom 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. *Be not highminded, but fear:
Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.*

There must be a similarity of the wild shoot to the root if "graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree". If our worship is not of the temple and the altar Rev. 11:1 then v.2?

Churches all over nowadays are sick/‘out of action’ due .. unrepented sin. .. instead of sorting matters out, to appease conscience or justify self, Christians go on to multiply religious activity/evangelism in an effort to keep God's work 'functioning' as nothing had happened. ..pattern repeats itself at family and personal level. Hurts do not amend by themselves unless they are tendered by repentance. Neither the grieved Spirit of God comes back by his own will till things are acknowledged and sorted out. (2Sa 21:1)
This is the post I was referring to. I heard this repeated in the post I responded to. I'd also listened to a teaching on Rev.14 I was in agreement with and I applied it to what you stated above about the pattern repeating itself at a family and personal level. I believe we are ripe for judgment related to the degenerousy of the times, but do not believe it to be the final judgment related to unfulfilled prophecy demonstrable in the Psalms in particular. I believe we are seeing fearful judgments executed in the east at this time. I do expect a quickening again of the Church as is indicated in Rev. 11 and the breaking away from the Roman apostasy by one of the western nations, so affecting others and Rom.11:1

Man's very life hangs upon every word of God. The Lord has taught me throughout the course of my life time primarily by his Word and providence while for a time using men in pulpits, more often in print, fellowship rare.

God sealed this His word to me providentially Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

From Matthew Henry - Note, 1. A man may do a great deal of good, or a great deal of hurt, both to others and to himself, according to the use he makes of his tongue. Many a one has been his own death by a foul tongue, or the death of others by a false tongue; and, on the contrary, many a one has saved his own life, or procured the comfort of it, by a prudent gentle tongue, and saved the lives of others by a seasonable testimony or intercession for them. And, if by our words we must be justified or condemned, death and life are, no doubt, in the power of the tongue.

B. your post of 11/13 6:46 seems to indicate (if any man..Rev. 14:9-12) God is by His Word and Spirit addressing individuals at this time. Sobering reality- eternal life or death

1647 WCF LC

Q. 109. What are the sins forbidden in the second commandment?
A. The sins forbidden in the second commandment are, all devising, counselling, commanding, using, and anywise approving, any religious worship not instituted by God himself; tolerating a false religion; the making any representation of God, of all or of any of the three persons, either inwardly in our mind, or outwardly in any kind of image or likeness of any creature whatsoever; all worshipping of it, or God in it or by it;the making of any representation of feigned deities, and all worship of them, or service belonging to them, all superstitious devices, corrupting the worship of God, adding to it, or taking from it, whether invented and taken up of ourselves, or received by tradition from others, though under the title of antiquity, custom, devotion, good intent, or any other pretence whatsoever; simony; sacrilege; all neglect, contempt, hindering, and opposing the worship and ordinances which God hath appointed.

How can Angela Merkel be the leader of her country and someone believe that she can do anything positive for her country. By positive, I mean of course something that is pleasing to our heavenly Father.
The article made it clear that she is not acting alone, there are lesser governors, her peers that are opposing irresponsible emigration policy. I believe John Knox made it clear why a woman should not be in such a position. As far as doing anything for God's glory and man's good, no man or woman outside of Christ's righteousness can please God. Whatever is not of faith is sin, faith grounded on the sure word of promise.

Germany is not alone in the west concerning nations under God's judgment. I believe that the Scriptures indicate a nation will withdraw from the present apostasy and affect the other nations that are having their hour of power with the dragon. see Rev. 17:12; 16:13,14; Rev. 11:12-15

My hope is not in particular persons, but rather in the veracity of the word of God who is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we could think or ask. It is the nature of the God to whom our prayers ascend, in the merits of the Mediator to rise above our finite comprehension to fulfill his will.

Pictorial impressions in 1. prophesy and 2. language in parables

1. Prophesy - Rev 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
see also Daniel 8:16-27 there are many other examples in both cases for a need of further illumination, not primary source of revelation of truth.

2. Parables - Mar 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
Mar 4:12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
Mar 4:13 And he said unto them, Know ye

The two symbols commanded in Scripture of the Church are Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Where are images commanded? Your analogy fails at that point.

Also you cannot compare God to man the creature. 'Not a reductionist nor a modernist'

1Sa 15:29 And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

OT prophets were given perceptions by means of visual types, while Christ's parables are ‘pictorial’ items conveying truths and concepts.
So, while being careful to avoid forbidden representations of the divinity, or emotional manipulation, biblical pictorial language might have a place, though not foundational, as faith-initiating truth has to be assimilated by the clear stating of facts, not by man-made ‘imaging’
When pictorial tangible means replace informed preaching for conveying truth, ambiguity sets in, and Spirit-void ministries may develop ‘experiences’ short of genuine repentance and faith
Appreciated your thoughts here. Clearly stated. From your last two paragraphs ...'pictorial language might have a place, though not foundational.' Whereas Ephes.4;12-16 states God has given pastor/teachers to accomplish his ends. Act 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

From the article: " The report, prepared by several government agencies including German intelligence, predicts “panic and chaos” and “storming of borders” if the refugee route across Europe is closed, according to Welt newspaper.

The leaked details come after Mrs Merkel recently warned that border closures could lead to “military conflict” in the Balkans."

When will the leaders of nations follow King David's pattern of leadership: "Psalm 144:10-11 It is he (the Lord)that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword. Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:"

so that they understand that their authority is donated and under the authority to the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Psalm 138:3-6 In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth. Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD: for great is the glory of the LORD. Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

Thanks 1517. I'd just finished my thoughts related to the Lord's Prayer 'Thy Kingdom Come' and that we trust that as Christ is even now in His exalted position at the Father's right hand, He will execute His will in bringing to pass His Decrees to fulfill His glorious purpose for *His Church*.

Then I read a few news items here. I began with the Idaho rancher story and I had many questions come to mind before I could formulate a thought about it according to Scripture, and not just an emotional reaction.

Spurgeon states on Ps. 121:3 regarding His care for *His* people; "He who throughout life is enabled to keep himself upright and to walk without stumbling has the best of reasons for gratitude. What with pitfalls and snares, weak knees, weary feet, and subtle enemies, no child of God would stand fast for an hour were it not for the faithful love which will not suffer his foot to be moved.---"

What God may do providentially and what is required of us preceptively is not the same thing, related to Count Von Zindendorf example. We do not walk by the things that are secret counsel but by what is revealed. God who is superlatively excellent beyond finite comprehension, deserves are our first love, that is not for the creature. The first table of the law tells us what he requires of us. We are not capable of its holiness, justice and truth, but Christ was, is and he ever lives to make intercession for us.

A older son gives his mother flowers for Mother's day after many years of ignoring it. He brings them on Saturday, not wanting to offend her sabbath keeping but still confusing it as an optional man made holy day for himself. The mother cries, thanks him for his appreciated effort to please but explains why Mother's day is not observed by our people. She confesses her past sins of ignorance in their youth. Does this mother not care about her son's feelings? Judge righteous judgment means something. What is righteousness? Can we be righteous any other way then by faith in the power of the blood to cleanse our most defiled attempt at pleasing God, who in Christ we must love superlatively, for he is worthy?

Psa 82:1 A Psalm of Asaph. God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
Psa 82:2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
Psa 82:3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
Psa 82:4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
Psa 82:5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
Psa 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
Psa 82:7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
Psa 82:8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm for the sons of Korah.
How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.... They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God. O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah. * Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.* For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. *For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. Mat 13:36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
Mat 13:37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
Mat 13:38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
Mat 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
Mat 13:40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
Mat 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
Mat 13:42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Mat 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

"I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before Me, and the souls; which I have made"
— Isaiah 57:16

Dave,

You came to mind in two places this morning. My reading in 2 Kings when God's people were being tempted to distrust and fear by Rabshakeh and from Spurgeon's Daily Checkbook of Promises see today's daily reading on sa.

The Lord's ways are not our ways they are so much higher. Upholding grace is something better perceived after the fact and not always under the Fatherly rod of our God who cares more for our character than our comfort. Character will prove of more enduring comfort. We are all a work in progress on this side of eternity.

You might find Thomas Boston's 'The Crook in the Lot" helpful instruction at this time. You may be able to access it on line?

Find you strength, direction, and comfort in the veracity of God's enduring Word.

1Pe 1:24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
1Pe 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

MS, When I put in the link it was the first thing I saw. Many times I hit the Foxfire picture of a book to removed all the distracting pictures, and ads so I can concentrate to read. I didn't because I wasn't expecting it. Maybe it was an advertisement? it was about evangelism so I thought it part of the site.

Thanks Rodney, for your explanation. I was afraid I said something that confused others because I was not clear. I have listened to and posted here sermons on the dangers of the emergent church in the past and I understand what you are saying. I was unaware they were offended at a cross, their doctrine indicates they are offended at the preaching of the cross.

I went to the website MS mentioned and the first thing I saw was a picture of Jesus and then I noted the cross. I left the site.

The Scripture states believers will be known not by symbol but by 1Pe 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
1Pe 1:24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

Mourner,
Appreciated your thoughts on 2 Kings 17.
This chapter always brings to mind the papists, who claim to know God, fear Him only because of punishment, and continue on in rank idolatry...
Thanks MS for the website for Hutcheson's works. In recent days I have been increasingly aware of the strength of paganism in my neck of the woods. I had spoken meekly to someone in a leadership position about a problem I observed. It worked against me but the Lord delivered me.

The result was physical but the Lord was stronger. I used the experience for self examination. Only God can raise the dead to newness of life, only God can give the necessary grace to walk before him blamelessly.

I have had many reasons to consider the vanity of life comparing the reparations we make for its continuance (as commanded) and how little we consider or prepare for our last and greatest battle. I trust the Lord who went before us will guide us in this matter.Ps.48:14

Rodney K. my reference to natural revelation in creation was in order to give God the glory in worship for creation, as we are instructed in Psalm 92. Em
