It took me awhile to learn to navigate Facebook in what and who appears in my news feed. After unfollowing a few folks and unfriending others, I've found that FB can be encouraging and informative. Do I have it on my smartphone? No, but it's on my desktop and it is a useful tool for someone like me who blogs and shares news with others. Am I hooked on FB? No. I'll still survive if the good Lord takes it away from me.

Praise the LORD for pastors who preach expository sermons. Thank you so much for your commitment to truth and teaching God's people.

Christopher is right and I also think that if one is left in a false church, they'll be taught false doctrine and actually will be motivated to share a false gospel. Would you want it on your conscience that souls are in hell because you didn't reject a false religion for the truth? How can one be effective for the kingdom if they're untaught? The Gospel truth will make a soul thirst for righteousness and do good works out of love for the Savior - not for fear of going to hell. John Y., you really need to make a decision and stop trying to keep one foot in Rome with the other seeking the Savior. You won't get very far in such a precarious position.

In response to John Y. - The Evangelicals want people to be saved and to walk in the truth. We are to make disciples of the nations and not leave new converts in a false religion based on works.

I have to respectfully disagree that this headline is misleading. I think it's on target as I've read and heard of Christian persecution in Russia for some time now... Of course, if you're Russian Orthodox, then things are just peachy, but if you're evangelical, religious liberties are restricted. One can probably Google "Christian Persecution in Russia" and find more proof.

What a terrible thing to say! SteveR is way out of line here. Dave, I agree with you and Christopher. We have been blessed to live in a free nation where we still have freedom of worship.

Sadly this was reportedly an apostate church (PCUSA), so it is doubtful Pres. Trump heard the Gospel preached.

Yes, there were God fearing candidates running for president. A vote for Darrell Castle or Tom Hoeffling could have easily been written in, if they didn't have ballot access. Or one could leave the office of President blank and vote down ballot for godly men running for local offices. Christians don't have to settle for who is the less wicked when voting. They can research and find alternatives to support.

Trump Teams Revenge ]]http://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/trump-teams-..

Excerpt: “My phone is ringing off the hook with people who were on the outs asking how they can get into Trump world,” said one operative who worked with Trump’s campaign. “I’m telling them there is no f---ing way they’re getting inside.”

My thoughts: Great! Now we get a vindictive obscenity laden White House... When will God's people vote for righteous candidates?

What on earth is happening to the good folks in South Carolina? Wasn't this Sinclair Ferguson's congregation at one time? Or am I just having a bad dream?

I haven't read all of Jim Lincoln's comments, but folks, if you're up in arms because he isn't following the GOP and supporting Trump, then perhaps you are the ones in error. Have your standards fallen so low you can't even be reasoned with? Has America ever seen Christians be so blind and foolish as in this election? May the good Lord have mercy and remove the scales from your blind eyes! You don't have to vote for Trump. You can vote third party, write in a candidate or just vote for the lesser offices. I pray you all will vote for righteousness and not out of fear for Hillary as president. If the GOP can keep Congress, her hands will be tied.

Pennelope, I come from a Reformed Presbyterian background and have studied the Scottish Covenanters who were persecuted for their faith. My understanding of the separation of Church and State comes from reading men like Samuel Rutherford and George Gillespie. I'm also a student of Protestant history and appreciate Luther, Zwingli and Calvin. I'm not Baptist nor do I know much about the Anabaptists except what I've read in general reformation history. I think you and I have disagreed on matters in the past and really should know better than to engage you in conversation. I'll make a note to not do this again. Praying you'll have a blessed Lord's Day.

Hi Pennned, Theonomy is prevalent in reformed circles and the definition has become so broad by its adherents that almost everyone is a theonomist! But SteveR has summed it up very well. It isn't traditional Reformed thought and that's why I eventually rejected it. I'm not certain what you mean by church and state being ideally one. Both church and state are under Christ, but they are separate governmental spheres is traditional reformed understanding.

Sorry, pennelope, but you and I must be looking at Phil Johnson's article differently because I didn't get that impression about him at all. I'm a former theonomist who had a change of heart after studying the actual works of the Reformers and Protestant history. I would go to Phil Johnson for help if I were being persecuted because I think he is genuine and would lay down his life for a fellow believer. Can we please keep in mind that violating the Ninth Commandment is serious business and God hates those who murder people's reputations?

Praise the LORD! It is so encouraging to see Christians take direct action to abolish prenatal child-killing. My prayers are with them. Also, thank you, Jim Lincoln, for the quote and link to the article by Phil Johnson. I've been on a similar journey in my Christian life and look forward to reading it in its entirety. May the good Lord bless you.
