Yes, Michael. I believe there are many like-minded Christians out there. They are either silent because they have been in churches that have had previous trouble and don't want to be perceived as such. They may be riding the unity for the sake of unity bandwagon. Or even as one of the other reasons that Jim stated in his post that distance may be relevant. However, some may be timid and remain silent because they want to continue in that church simply for the convenience of a short travel (although I agree that distance is important mainly for involvement).

Many may cite,"the essentials"! But what really are the Biblical essentials?
Of couse the core of doctrine, the diety, birth and resurrection of Christ, et al. But are there others? Is the doctrine of eternal punishment a core doctrine? So, to stress essentials may even be a bit presumptious when I believe that many cannot even agree on that.

Not only for our own welfare but this is very important for our young sons and daughters sake.

Jim,

Not being demeaning but I am not sure how to answer your post. Actually, I think it is becoming more difficult not only in deciding on a church but for Christians to actually stay in a church.

Jim,

I agree to an extent but what about the situations where the father, knowing that he is accountable to God for his spiritual leadership, happens to be in a geographical area where the churches are unpassable?

A pejorative phraseology in the past has been "church-hoppers". A recent phenomenon, we must ask ourselves the following:

1. Could it be the leadership? Preachers, allowing worldliness, ie., the so-called Christian Rock Music or the vehicle of entertainment, as an accepted standard, whether it be the fill-in jokes, drama for laughs, etc.

2. How many churches with the modern trend of the youth pastor without its Biblical precedent, especially with the Independent form of church(I believe there are pluses and minuses in regards to church polity) where at times the pastor actually decides as he has an agenda and the deacons often give way.

Becaues many pastors sons are youth pastors, their fathers who were once one of the "old guard" are now succumbing to the worldly trends of music?

3. Are churches with a traditional, church worship actually inconsistent, as they allow CCM in their youth groups? Do parents perceive the Hybels/Warren worship theology that all music is amoral, as unbiblical and therefore seek to go elsewhere?

4. Are these conscientious, and uncompromising believers "church-hoppers" because this seeker sensitive philosophy has effected many Bible-believing churches?
With no Carl McIntyre's or Machen's, maybe these believers are left with no option

Mike,

Of course, you could also add, Acts 5:42,
"And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they kept right on teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ."

There were churches in houses, temples and of course, if we begin to see persecution towards Christians escalate, we of course might see churches in catacombs. Since, our modern day cemeteries are not propitious for such, maybe we'll all have to move to China!

LION-LAMB!
Would the LION, of strength and might!
Wish to be a LAMB, of prey is his plight?

Would the LION, exalted above all!
Wish to be a LAMB, and ready to fall?

Would the LION, conquering would impress!
Wish to be a LAMB, all defenseless?

Would the LION, who reigns as a king!
Wish to be a LAMB,worthy of sacrificing?

"and one of the elders said to me, Stop weeping; BEHOLD, the LION that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals."
Revelation 5:5

"The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, BEHOLD, the LAMB OF GOD who takes away the sin of the world!"
John 1:29

Alan H. and Neil,

Agreed. How is violence measured? By it's heinousness? By the pain inflicted?
By the age of the victim? Is it acceptable in an entertainment vehicle, eg. a soccer match?

In regards to God, He alone is inherently good and all of His judgments are right.

However, I also agree with Pastor Hammack, in that we may at times misrepresent some religions because we do not own neither have we read their books of authority. Besides, I have said to others that they should be careful at times for opposing literature in schools "simply" on the grounds of violence. It must be on the grounds that it is undue violence or evil violence that is not relegated as such.

Mike/New York,

But, how does Mr. Geisler's quote agree with Scripture? Agreed that faith is the requirement for salvation but how is that faith made alive or procured? Scripture does say that we must receive Christ for salvation and of course our wills are engaged. But Scripture also said that it is not by the will of man. And our natural wills do not seek after God and though the natural man does not realize it, are actually at war with Him and spiritually are dead and need more than a prompting of course unless this prompting might be defined to it's greatest extent.

Michael Hranek,

What I am saying is simply a reply to what was said regarding John 15:16. When the Lord saved me, I was not told about election directly(probably like you)but it was emphasized that Jesus did it all.
Although I did not then know all of Scripture, I now realize that I came to Christ because I had already been given to Him from the Father therefore I was not cast out.
I would not give meat to an unbeliever but I can freely discuss some of these things now with fellow believers in Christ.
To unbelievers I proclaim Christ and Him crucified, probably like you. So, there are things that all Christians have in common. Have a "grace day"!

Greetings, Mike/New York,

I realize that you did not verbalize that however in relation to John 15:16, you emphasize the positive but there is also a negative present in Christ's words.

To be consistent, if you say that Christ is only saying that He chose them to bring forth fruit not for salvation then we must also say that the disciples did not choose Christ for salvation.
In these words of Christ what was HE expressing in regards to their choosing? And it is certain that if Christ chose the disciples for good fruit it becomes necessary that He also chose them for salvation(as others have already stated.)
Otherwise, if Christ did not choose the elect then of course we would have the impossibility that a bad tree could produce good fruit. The only way this verse makes sense is for Christ to of course choose the elect to bear the good fruit.

Mike/New York,

JOHN 15:16
What would the disciples have chosen Jesus for, except in regards to salvation?

Mike/New York,

So, is our belief of works or of grace?
Also, wondering if you consider belief a righteous act?

Mike/New York,
Most of the time our analogies fall short of the Biblical spiritual truths but at times they are indeed helpful to some extent. A better analogy Mike might be that of a Dr. who had power to change taste buds. This Dr. prescribed a most distasteful medicine to his patients but they had no desire to partake. Untill, the Dr. gave them taste buds that made this particular medicine sweet and desirable, only then would they accept and be healed.

Mike/New York,

You said,"PS believing is not a work."

Paul, tells us in Romans that there is no middle ground and that it is either of grace or of works!

So then, what is belief?

Okey,

Many lost souls have perished still in their sins because they so-called converted to a religious institution instead of a true conversion unto the person of Jesus Christ!

"Repent ye therefore, and be 'CONVERTED', that your 'SINS' may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you;"
ACTS 3:19,20

"And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that Prophet,
shall be destroyed from among the people."
ACTS 3:23

JOHN 3:36

Amen! Piety is attacked on all front today. It seems that the word itself is frowned upon.

The foundation for all of this is the holiness of God!

Probably, few American churches there are who have not been infected by the Hybells/Warren, friendship evangelism, which I do not happen to see in Scripture.
I Peter 1:15,16

DNA test? Have fun looking for the body of Christ-the Almighty has arisen, this is the day that the Lord has made. When we accept the righteousness of Jesus Christ to be ours, then His Spirit will lead us to come out of Rome and to give all her adherents the true gospel of grace! Christ died for the ungodly.
Of course once this is proven to be the crucifixion nail(can't be done)then the thousand of songs of the throngs can all bellow out:

"I have THE NAIL..."

JOHN 3:36
