I'm surprised that he hasn't endorsed "twilight" yet.

These are Bible doctrines. All five are indicative of how God saves His elect in Christ. A change to any of the above brings an Arminian (free will) solution.
Thus there is no third way.
You mean these are calvinist doctrine. What about 4 point calvinists? What about Spurgeon? Are they arminians? All things being equal, nothing is ever just black or white.

One other question that I have been curious about. If you as a calvinist regard yourself as a part of the reformist camp, then why do you not use the Geneva Bible? this is not meant as an indictment, just a question out of curiosity.

You can have your calvin, I'll take my God, Saviour, Lord, and the Holy Spirit any day.

Thank you very much but since my Bible says corn, I'll leave it at that.

If someone is converted without having been brought up on the Authorised Version (like me), it takes effort to get to grips with it, but when you start seeing it as it is, the very word of God, beautiful and spiritual and sanctifying and, above all, a living word, powerful and life-changing, then no effort seems to be too great. Oh what a word this is! Trustworthy and incredibly accurate! Such joy!
Amen Bro. John UK

Sad.
Name calling again. I rebuke Arminianism, just as I would calvinism. Why not believe the Holy Bible (the very words of God) first, Quoting Scripture instead of spouting the fallible words of fallen men.

Will the next new translation be one that caters to text messengers? One that abbreviates every word? If most books that are geared to our youth (non Christian ones) are not being read anymore, then how can we expect them to read the Bible.

Biblion,

"Like the English AV (1881) they were using Westcott and Hort's critical text."

Are you sure it was the AV and not the RV that you meant to write?

As for understandability (is that a word?), I've never had any trouble at all understanding the AV and I know tons of folks, some children, who don't either. The AV was understood by everyone who bothered to read it until just recently.
I have to agree with you, I've never had any problems either.

Jim,
I've noticed when I first started reading the Bible that many comments made by many commentators usurp the very authority of the written words contained in the Bible. One such example is the word "corn". Almost without exception commentators will say that corn did not exist in the middle east and that the word should be changed to grain. That seems odd considering that the middle east is the gateway between Europe, Africa and Asia with an abundant trade industry. Corn could have easily been imported from India. There are many such changes made by "experts" to validate their superior intellect. HA!

It seems to me that as each subject comes up that the presbyterians are looking more catholic by the minute.

Biblicist, John UK...good posts.

Thanks John Uk for posting a great answer. You quoted some fine points, as well did others who "came to my rescue" this day. I can't thank our Lord enough for sending His people to me re: some particular sins I'm struggling with.

This reminds me of the forced sterilizations that were done in the south years ago. It is as one Sermonaudio poster would say "insane and psychotic".

Just adding my 2 cents here. I use the the KJV (Cambridge edition) from Anthony publishers. It is plain with no markings on the cover or spine except the words Holy Bible. There are no notes or comment and it is black letter.
I think it best to use a Bible with no notes or comments.
If I need comments, I will read one of the several commentaries that I have.

Faithful Remnant,

Hope you had a good Sunday.
Thank you for the resources that you gave me. I appreciate the information.

Any topic that revolves around Calvin is quite a topic, I've never seen so much input and passion.

1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am reminded of a Baptist youth pastor who made a huge emphasis with the youth at his church on fervent praying and keeping a prayer journal and how these young people saw God answer their praying over and over again BUT as they grew older things like having their driver's license and a car, dating, having the music, the clothes, the entertainment of the world choked out the real riches they once experienced.
I would venture to say that there is so little being preached and taught on true Biblical Holiness to God that even when people do experience a measure or a taste of the reality of God that they are often bewitched away from Him and from the cross HE requires of those who follow for the things of the world...especially when churches bring the world and the things and false teachings of the world into their congregations.
Amen.

Yes, I'd imagine Christianity Today is quite liberal and ecumenical in its views, so why hi-lite a man who was very opposed to the Roman Catholic Church(and thus ecumenism). I don't think Calvin would agree and even want to be mentioned in the pages of this journal. He was not liberal and was not ecumenical. Then again, we have Christians from a wide array of different doctrinal opinions falling for the ecumenical movement, but this was predicted to happen.
Hello FR,
Are there any reformist based magazines? You summed up my post exactly.

Good post. Remember "all" & "every" means something else. That's why they love to quote calvin instead of scripture.

Well Put Highpoint, answering stupidity with a direct quote from Calvin's own works. Thank You, In Christ Bruce Lantto
Typical calvinist response. Calling people names and supposing that worship of a man's words justifies one in God's Grace.

Rom 14:8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.

1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

If you had read my first post, my criticism was toward "christianity today" magazine and not calvin.

San Jose John,
After reading my posts in the other calvin related threads, you should know by now my stand concerning calvinism. BTW, I don't believe arminianism is scriptural.

Once again, here we go. Not too surprising that an ecumenical, liberal, and un-scriptural piece of garbage that christianity today is...would hi-lite Calvin.
