When dealing with large numbers, it is always good to get perspective. Number One Killer in the US is heart disease with over 670,000 and then stroke is 140,000. We could talk about alcohol-related deaths, and that would be many more. Flu deaths have been very high; President Trump used a 50,000 number a week or so ago at a news conference, which is the high end of the CDC page I had copied last month, which showed Oct 1, 2019 to FEb 29,2020 was minimum of 20,000 and max of 50,000. Cases were in the millions, hospitalizations over 320,000. And did anyone shut down the NBA, the NFL, or concerts, or NASCAR? Maybe now every Oct 1 they should shut them all down. Think of all the lives we could save. Oh, by the way, they do have a flu vaccine, but many won't get it because it may cause autism, or is made from aborted baby parts, right? Or they could be Seventh Day Adventists or Jehovah's Witnesses. |

1. consider source: WND=World Nut Daily. 2. have you heard this on your local news? I won't ask national networks since they would never touch any story with God in it. I was going to ask if your local newspaper has a weekly religion page listing church services, but now that they have been moved online, that is no longer true. But still, if they did, have they run any editorials or columns about this story? 3. what do people mean by God? the guy sitting on a big throne with long white hair and beard, throwing thunderbolts down at us? 4. Compare the recent past--2009 Swine Flu or H1N1 virus. 60 million Americans affected, 12,000 died, yet did schools close? 5. Consider the 'regular' flu season for which we are given vaccines in Aug/Sept to prep for it. CDC says over 20,000 people died from Oct 1, 2019 to Feb 29, 2020. That's 4,000 people per month. Any news on it? To be fair, all NHL, NBA, SEC, NFL games should be cancelled from Oct 1 onwards to prevent this 'tragic loss of life.' Everyone should be required to wear face masks from October 1 through March 31. |

When this Wuhan flu crisis is over, and churches open to regular services, etc, I wonder if the result will be full churches for a few weeks as people make a big collective effort like they did after 9/11. Then a month or two later, you will go back to the same old same old attendance patterns. I even wonder if people today will look around and seriously analyze their church lives and say, hey, I only say hello to 3 or 4 couples who in my area of the church, and then I go home. What is the difference from today when I can call them every day? Do I really need to get up early, dress up, go to this building? I could stay home, work in my garden, go fishing, golfing, shopping, and have time for other things like visiting sick people in the hospital or elderly in the ALFs. |

Read "I, Pencil' essay by Lawrence Reed and you will see that a simple pencil cannot be made without resources from around the world. Hold up your cellphone and see how many rare earth elements from China are used in it. Ladies, your diamond ring may have an African source. Gold market--anyone buying gold these days with the markets down? That could come from many different countries. Now, I did hear that the reason Italy leads the EU with this virus is that they had many Chinese migrant workers in their factories (mostly N. Italy), who went home Jan 25 for Chinese New Year, ate a lot of bats, rats, and other strange creeping crawling things (all prohibited by the Bible), got the virus, then returned to work in Italy, thus spreading it to a population with 22.6 percent elderly, the highest in the EU. |

Have you wondered like me...what are the deaths from 'ordinary' flu in the US this season? A quick websearch led me to a page from the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia, and it had these numbers: since Oct 1, 2019 through Feb 29, 2020 (5 months total), there have been 34 to 49 million cases, 16 to 23 million medical visits, and 350,000 to 620,000 hospitalizations, with 20,000 to 52,000 deaths. These are amazing numbers, esp. the last ones, which mean approximately 4,000 people in the US per month have died from the flu since Oct 1, 2019. It also makes you wonder about what the leading cause of death is (heart disease) and what those numbers are. I remember car deaths being 50,000 per year. |
