Scott McMahan,

Agreed. Simply put, the problem is not the economic system of capitalism but deficit spending.

Putting this into perspective, as an individual, if I were to continue deficit spending (although my powers are limited, eg., I do not have the ability to print money, so to that extent the analogy of course is not perfect)so that eventually I was $1,000,000 in debt, I would have gone bankrupt. It would have bottomed out and no matter how much I desired to cut expenses and increase my income(even to the point of having two full-time jobs)I have come to the point of no return.

My advice to fellow Christian travellers: get out of debt as soon as possible. As Larry Burkett, once stated, our economy is resilient and definitely surprising but the free fall is imminent. As we speak, our economic future is bleak!

rayzeratheist/Tx,

"...writings by UNKNOWN human authors..."
Illogical, as is your beginning premise of knowing with full confidence that there is no God.

You posted at, 7/5/10, at 4:13 p.m.:

"If that were TRUE..."
John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning..."

"...CHARGES should be brought..."
James 2:10, "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become GUILTY of all."

"I should be tried in COURT"
Revelation 20: 11,12 and 15.
"And I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it...
And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were JUDGED from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.
And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."

"I should serve my sentence."
Matthew 25:46, "And these will go away into ETERNAL PUNISHMENT, but the righteous into eternal life."

Why would one state unequivocally that the 1,000 years is not symbolic but literal when the context shows that there is symbolism present,eg., the key of the abyss and the dragon.

It is well known that the prophetic books contain much symbolism.

It would seem to be good hermeneutics not to hold strongly to a position of a literal "1,000 year" millenium when we find that number absent throughout Scripture except for this instance in Revelation.

Jim,

Don't have much time. Going on vacation with the family. Did look at the site though and wonder why you would be looking for fairness instead of truth?

I noticed that the author of your article, Shaun Martin, has criticized only conservatives, eg., Mr. Levin.

Will be reading while I am gone. Hope I did not dampen your surfing efforts.

Jim, I am still waiting for the "majority" of the founders being deists
that your historical revisionists like to claim!

Jim,

Still waiting for the LARGE list of the "majority" of F.Fathers who were deists? You cite one, and even the source on the blog you posted, Mr. Ellis, states that Jefferson was not a deist! That is probably the only thing that I would agree with Mr. Ellis on.

I just began reading: Michael Farris, "From Tyndale to Madison, How the Death of An English Martyr Led To The American Bill of Rights." In the Intro. he mentions Ellis once as referring to America as the greatest achievement of the Enlightenment. Although this book sports almost 500 pages, I will let you know how the rewriters(like Ellis)don't even have one foot to stand on.

Documented proof needed for the "many" founders who were Episcopalian by social convention and not by belief?

Jim, how do you know that I did not read your blog?

Jim,

First, you assume that all political documents that are fashioned by a majority of Christians or with a heavy emphasis on the Bible, must have the word, Christ or Bible in it! This is the same invalid argument that has been employed by the cults,eg., the word trinity is not in the Bible.

Second, as for the blog, I believe that Mr. Novak and Mr. Ellis, have been going at it for a while now.

Third, I would like your list of the majority of deists who signed either the Dec. of Ind. or Constitution.

Lastly, Eidsmoe, informs us that,"Two professors,Donald S. Lutz and Charles S. Hyneman, have reviewed 15,000 items...with explicitly political content printed between 1760 and 1805." He continues that of the 3,154 references,"The source most often cited by the founding fathers was the Bible, which accounted for 34 percent of all citations."

"Christianity and the Constitution", John Eidsmoe, 1987.

"Another 60 percent of their quotes was drawn from authors who had their ideas from the Bible. Therefore, it can be shown that 94 PERCENT of their quotes are based either directly or indirectly on the Bible." (caps are mine).

"America's Providential History", S.K. McDowell and M.A.Beliles, 1989.

The Christian Church may try to justify some things that are not explicit in Scripture today however general principles are still there.

In regards to my previous post, the following Biblical principle must always apply. Has anyone ever been unable to decipher the words being sung(of course, they have their big screens now)and were not able to engage the mind because the background music was so loud?

"What is the outcome then? I shall pray with the spirit and I shall pray with the mind also; I SHALL SING WITH THE SPIRIT AND I SHALL SING WITH THE MIND ALSO.

I Corinthians 14:15

As the army of God does missions, it involves itself with Biblically defining God's holiness and man's sinfulness, with no timetable.

Oh, yeah. We of course will not leave out the necessary doctrine of eternal punishment in HELL, no matter the offense that the cross of Christ might bring. A superficial rendering of the gospel will always aim at being careful not to offend the unbeliever.

I have even witnessed where a pastor asked the Lord to give that particular church a certain amount of believers as a result of that group going out in street evangelism.

This may be presumptuous and erroneous but with their emphasis on "exponential growth", I wonder if these mega churches have done this practice?

America's founding documents and founding father's need to be read and studied as history so that we might raise up a generation again that would at least know the content of these documents, as well as understand that the founding fathers, for the most part, were NOT deists. Respect for Biblical principles is the reason for the longevity of our Constitution and order in a history of chaos and change.

History has been rewritten.
The truth has been smitten.

Different sources.
Take different courses.

Like all interpretation.
Context defends this nation.

With first-hand accounts.
Rewriters are denounced.

The "LAMB OF GOD", should be the attraction for the people.

Mr. Robertson, history show that you will indeed sacrifice the traditional Psalms and cease to be a psalm singing church. Also, I am wondering when the Psalms began chasing believers from the church?

Seems to be a digression through the years of Psalms, hymns and so-called Christian Rock. I can remember 25 years ago when Bible-believing Churches were debating on whether they should use S. Green and S. Patti. Today, these same churches have changed so much they would laugh at the thought of it.

Also, some churches you may attend almost give one a headache as soon as you enter. Cymbal and trumpets played loudly was no problem with outside processions, or played in large temples that dwarfed even today's mega churches.

BTW, in the process of studying. I also love many great hymns.

"History students are now to be required to study documents, such as the Mayflower Compact..."

Proper pedagogy, historical truth, etc., the reading of our countries founding documents should be required reading once again.

I can remember a day when students where required with more than simple reading but an added requirement might be rote memorization!

The preceding post was taken from, "Great Myths of the Great Depression", by The Mackinac Center. The familiarity is that Hoover was accused of these 7 things by Roosevelt in the 1932 election.

On page 5,we find: "Roosevelt's running mate, John Nance Garner, charged that Hoover was 'leading the country down the path of socialism'."

F.D.R., what he denounced.
He later pronounce.

Government intervention.
Original intention.

In three years down seventy-five percent
Car production was almost spent.

Of course, some like F.D.R.
Could still shop for a car.

Herbert Hoover, was a mover.
Herbert Hoover, no improver.

Wise man or a smarty.
Must upset the carty.

And never vote party.
Good motives but foolhardy.

Correction:

Post on, 4/27/10, 3:26 p.m. addressed to John UK:

Lost my train of thought and did not proofread but the following parenthetical phrase should have been included at the beginning:

"at the conclusion of Sunday's service", men will not be engaged with talks about sports or even events concerning our children.

Although, it may happen that a mans focus and delight would be about the things of the Lord at all times, it is sad when after hearing a powerful sermon that men would gather afterwords and speak of vain and trivial things. Must our heads always be held high in a celebratory fashion and never held low in contrition first!

Pres. Obama, is indeed our President but all of his actions show that he is a very wicked man.

You would think that when one is near the end of his stay in the land of the living and about ready to be face to face with Christ, that he would be full of God's Spirit and witness Christ to one who needs Him.

The article stated that they only conversed for 30 minutes. In that time span, Franklin stated that they talked about their roots in Chicago, golf and Billy prayed for the nation and for Pres. Obama, to have wisdom in his decision-making.

That he might have spiritual wisdom in his decision-making for Christ! That he might read II Tim. 4:1-8.
"...do the work of an evangelist..."!!!

Rick, Alabama,

This man was not Leonard Ravenhill, but of the same vintage - not fearing man and controlled by His Spirit. Whenever he spoke in church(I am not antagonistic to using notes per se)he spoke without notes. He read Scripture so much that he spoke Scripture in his sermons and all with a straight face set like flint. The Almighty Lord used him mightily.

I have a couple of Ravenhill's books and heard him in an interview. He was powerful and spoke without snares.

If you fellas remember, pray for me. I want to love the Lord my God, with all of my heart, soul, mind and strength!!! Beginning today I will write both you and John's names down and pray for you. Heb. 12:2

John UK,

I believe the church today is in great need. Not just preachers who are teachers but men who are led by His Spirit.
I know of a man who is currently(though up in years)with a revival organization who had visited our church years ago. While staying at our pastor's house, pastor told me that he would only come out of his room once for a bite to eat and then return for prayer. Along with prayer, he had a custom that daily he would read "35 CHAPTERS OF SCRIPTURE" a day.
When God does revive the church, there won't be any guessing. We will know it for sure; men will not be engaged with talks about sports or even events concerning our children. We will be swallowed up in His glory and as the heart is so the mouth speaketh.
Histories on revival are convicting(I am guilty, myself). During the Welsh Revival, someone heard a disturbance out in the distance on their grounds in the middle of the night. After walking towards it they found a young person kneeling on the other side of the stone wall, alone engaged in fervent prayer.

Quotes or notes?
Though fillers are chillers.

It's the Spirit that matters.
With prayer - no fleshly chatters.

Michael, Jonathan Edwards, spent THREE entire days in constant prayer, fasting and deprived of any sleep. Those present stated that their was immediate conviction as soon as they saw Mr. Edwards as he arose from prayer and entered the pulpit, even before he uttered a word.

Curiously, some thankfully recorded by hand the sermons of old and one thing we notice is there is never any jokemaking.

The Welsh Revival began when two pastors met for prayer. I believe they agreed on two things. One was that they would never seek to joke around or entertain during a sermon!

David Brainerd engaged in fasting and prayer one day a week. Such was the case of Spurgeon and others who God used through His Spirit.

San Jose John,

A. Maslow, B.F. Skinner, et al., I also had for Child Development Psychology 40 years ago. I can remember thinking how good that all sounded. Sounds good but experimentally unsound.

Humanistic worldview.
Common sense askew.

When the self is denied.
Aggressive spirit, cannot hide.

Testosterone aside.
A bit of Cain inside.

To effect the will, most must cry.
The wound be blue, he will not die.
