IkeyMikey,

God gives men the power to choose, but He determines how that power will be used. He is God; He IS sovereign.

Pope Francis: ‘The Devil is Here, Even in the 21st Century’

He ought to know. He and Satan are on first name basis:

Revelation 13:4-5 KJV
[4] And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? [5] And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

He gave man free will. Free will to either love Him, or hate Him.

The only man that had free will was Adam, and look what a mess he did with it. Now all his descendent are born with a corrupt will and are slaves to sin. Sin is their master.

John 8:34 KJV

John UK,
How can you further interpret 2 Peter 3:9?
It states CLEARLY that God is not willing for ANY to perish. And that ALL should come to repentance.

IkeyMikey or whatever is your real name. Take a close look at that verse and see who he is referring to: "longsuffering to USWARD"; who is the USWARD there. Go back to the beginning of 2 Peter: to see who he is writing to.
It is to believers, 1 Peter calls them the Elect according to the foreknowledge of God,

2 Peter 1:1 KJV

We can blame the democrats but actually there is little difference between the two parties. For example, John McCain speaks more like a liberal socialist democrat than Obama. In fact, with all the executive orders that Obama had signed, who has called him on anything. The Republicans are silent. No one wants to be called a racist; this is the death nail to a politician's chance for reelection. Obama knows it, and he is playing that card as far as it can take him. So what we have is a single party system with a Democratic Party and a Rhino Democratic Party. Together there is an aristocratic government with socialist power over the masses,

Query,

God is transferring to himself what is normally referred to men, because it is not right that we should presume that we can alter His worship as we please thinking that this or that might be what he desires in worship. He has declared what is acceptable in his sight as men approach Him. In doing so men attempt to exalt their own wisdom above His.

John UK,

No anathemas intended, just showing the importance of the love of the truth.

I agree with you about the deceptive Anglicans, but we must not allow their empirical use of their confession cause us to neglect sound doctrine.

Deuteronomy 32:1-3 KJV
[1] Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. [2] My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: [3] Because I will publish the name of the Lord : ascribe ye greatness unto our God.

John UK writes,

Those who truly believe that Jesus is the Christ are already born again. With emphasis on "truly believe". The ones you mentioned pay lip service to certain doctrines, but it is only mental assent, say, to a creed or confession.

RK responds,

Even though you didn't say my name, we know of whom this is in reference. But I understand, you still have a lot to learn about faith. There are very few who can understand or define faith apart from some metaphysical feeling or experience. It is these who are ripe for the delusion to come because they don't see that Christ can't be separated from His doctrine. Like the Pentecostals they can't move past the experience or the emotion to "receive the love of the truth". Whether you believe it or not, faith is the evidence of things NOT SEEN, it a assent to the truth with a regenerated mind; this is not the same as lip service.

Philippians 2:5 KJV
[5] Let this MIND be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

2 Thessalonians 2:9-11 KJV
[9] Even him , whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, [10] And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. [11] And for this caus

UPS writes,

Myself and others share a belief in the doctrines of grace regardless of what Calvin or the WCF have stated, and we have good reason to distance ourselves from both of them.

RK responds
I pray that you would reconsider these words. Calvin and the authors of the WCF were some of the greatest scholars (second only to the inspired Apostles and The Lord of course) the world has ever known. You are cutting yourself off from some great teachers of the Word.

Check the stats. At the time of the civil war, only 6% of the South owned slaves and only 2% owned more than one or two. Not that I am endorsing slavery, but the issue of the Civil War was not slavery. Even Lincoln didn't make it an issue until 2-3 yrs. into the war.
He didn't sign the Emancipation Proclamation until 1863, and the War began in 1861. The issue was that the Federal Government had become a machine for big business and special interests at the expense of the states. What we are facing today is the fallout of the results of the war. Robert E. Lee was smart enough to see that the real issues of the war would be hidden. That's why he freed his salves before the war began. It's sad he couldn't convince all his colleagues to do the same.

Liza J,

I know you will appreciate the sound doctrine form this old hymn (especially the second verse)

Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me

Text: Augustus M. Toplady,

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee;
let the water and the blood,
from thy wounded side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure;
save from wrath and make me pure.

2. Not the labors of my hands
can fulfill thy law's commands;
could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow,
all for sin could not atone;
thou must save, and thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring,
simply to the cross I cling;

You are right Chris, The "sexually compatible" excuse is just that - an excuse to fornicate without the guilt.

Liza J,

You're right some of the greatest hymn writers got their doctrine from Scripture. It's hard for some to see that. Perhaps if we saw their song books we would understand why they hold this opinion.

Newspapers have been on the decline for the last decade as more people are getting their news from more unbiased and less liberal sources. These idiots only assume that the public is stupid enough to continue to pay for their ad rags with nothing in return but the editors' commentaries. Maybe the perverts will see this as an omen and return to
their closets.

Now if there was some way to shutdown the 6:00 evening tabloids.

UPS,

Please allow me to quote CH Spurgeon which reflects my sentiments, and perhaps you will agree;

"When a man falls into an error, but reverently conceives that he finds it in his Bible, he is on a very different footing from the man who says that he judges by his moral consciousness, or some other unreliable standard, and declares that if the Bible contradicts him he will sooner renounce Scripture than change his opinions. We can have a measure of fellowship with a mistaken friend who is willing to bow before the teaching if Scripture if he can be made to understand it; but we must part company altogether with the errorist, who overrides prophets and apostles, and practically regards his own inspiration as superior to theirs. We fear that such a man will before long prove himself an enemy to the cross of Christ, all the more dangerous because he will profess loyalty to The Lord whom he dishonors."0

Mixed up writes,

Maybe you can further enlighten me.

RK responds,

As I see it, since Jesus is the Word of God which is the mind and thought of God made flesh, to believe him is the same as believing his doctrine. If Jesus taught the doctrine of election (or any doctrine that He or His Apostles taught) and one refuses to believe it, this is the same as not believing in him.

John 8:31 KJV
[31] Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

Mixed up on own from History writes:
Biblical Calvinism wrote:
I see by your post you are not one of the elect. You don't appear to have the same experience. May the Lord be with you.
Well,now that is quite a statement. But here is your opportunity, show me from where you are able to draw that conclusion?

RK joins discussion,

I think this was the verse he had in mine when he said:

John 6:65-66 KJV
[65] And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. [66] From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

AND

John 8:31 KJV
[31] Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

Mike writes,

Nary a "can not" there, bro. Will not? Another story, different meaning.

RK responds,

Mike, how's this for a "can not",

John 3:3 KJV
[3] Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he CAN NOT see the kingdom of God.

or regarding the "will" that you place so much stock in;

John 1:13 KJV
[13] Which were born, not of blood, NOR OF THE WILL of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
