Delores,
I will pray for you. Honestly you seem very confused and I do not mean that in a mean or argumentative way. Grace and peace to you, I hope you truly know Christ as Lord and Savior.

Thoughts on Hebrews 13:8? A verse I have heard quoted more than a few times when Charismatics argue for the continuation of miracle gifts. Debunked and refuted in this article. Context, context, context!!!!

Wowzers I honestly can't believe this discussion is still going on 😳😳😳😳😳
I would think both sides have exhausted their Scriptural support and apologetic argumentation a by now!
Although I am a bit perplexed at some of the claims made by the continuationist position..... not so good, well bad.

Dave;
Your last comment was spot on. The so called prophets and those who claim to speak in tongues elevate themselves above other who haven't and place a burden on new converts to do the same or they are "quenching the Spirit".... in reality it is the false prophets, gibberish speaking ones who are quenching the Spirit. Moreover the utter lack of Biblical support is astounding.
Also I'm not sure if I have seen this said but tongues was a lot of the time connected to prophecy. What I mean is when one spoke in tongues it would often be to reveal a new revelation from God. God no longer gives direct revelation to individuals, period. If He was, what was said should be on the same level as Scripture as it came from mouth of God! The thought of this is blasphemy!!!!! God has spoken in His inspired, sufficient and innerant word, the Bible! I find it amazing how many individuals but into this nonsense

Hugh;
Excellent point! Although persecution from a human perspective is tragic, and there is no denying its outcomes are horrific, persecution also strengthens the body and sanctifies the individual. The west could use some of that to eliminate the tares from the wheat.

Delores, it is definitely okay to disagree on this point, it is not a matter of matter of me not thinking your a Christian or anything like that. As Christians we should seek to be as truthful and honest with God's word as possible! I am not sure how far your beliefs extend to the other miraculous gifts or what your theology is like, but a lot of Charasmatic churches tend to focus so much on the "gifts" that the Gospel is nonexistent. Moreover their use of words like "fire" or "anointing" are flat out aBiblical, I see this doctrine as a stepping stone leading to poor theology.

Shane, I understand brother not trying to be crude by making a poop emoji πŸ˜„

Dave from Oz, I do agree with your statements and as I said above, a lot of the Charasmania is under the condemnation of Galatians 1. No Gospel= eternal condemnation. Although to me, the fake healings are the biggest tragedy of all.... taking advantage of desperate people whom are suffering, taking their money, then blaming their lack of faith as the reason they weren't healed 🀒🀒🀒🀒 repulsive

Dolores,
Look at verse 19 you quoted! Read 1 Corinthians 14 IN CONTEXT and you will see Paul's point, and it is that prophecy is far better than tongues!

Vile type emojis, for real? It's a joke brother calm down! I have seen other use that emoji and not get scolded for it.
Are you not familiar with what the term "proof texting" means? This would mean demanding one verse or a set of verses that shows a doctrine. So in this instance, you are demanding that I have a verse that plainly states, "the miraculous gifts have ceased." What I am saying is that even though there is not one specific verse that plainly states this, the totality of the New Testament shows he miracle gifts have ceased. As I stated in my previous comment, "A Case For Cessationism" by Tom Pennington is a great sermon on the subject.
Obviously I'm NOT saying that Bible doesn't plainly state that the miracle gifts ceased after the Apostolic age, just not in a single verse.

Shane,
Demanding proof texting is a dangerous thing. The totality of the New Testament speaks. Ask yourself this question, what is the purpose of the miraculous gifts (tongues, healing, prophecy, etc)? Do we still have working prophets today? True healers who heal organic diseases, not just a psychological pain relief for a time? Do people still speak in languages not previously known to them?
These Miraculous sign gifts we for a specific purpose, chiefly to validate the Apostles message about Christ.
What say you, Shane? πŸ’©

lol twisting words and what I said isn't helpful or honest. I simply said I think Michael Kruger has a helpful sermon on the subject and wrote a book as well, that's all. We don't need to go after one another simply because we don't agree on this.
I do not give to much credence to textual critics. I'm just pointing what they have said and saying that I see value in their work, not that it's the absolute authority. It sounds to me like you guys are the biased ones, discounting all textual criticism. I realize there are atheist critics but there are also many who love God's word and simply seek to find what most likely was written on the original manuscripts.
I find the field interesting, but certainty not authoritative.... geesh

Observer,
I am not saying we cannot use Mark 16 as support for doctrine or even turn to a passage in Mark 16 in teaching. All I am saying is that we cannot BASE our doctrine on this text alone because of the textual critical issues. Essentially, that if a passage from the longer ending of Mark is our ONLY passage to support a doctrine we hold, I would call that into question. Agreed? I point to Mark 16 for many Truths and do not at all mean it is worthless or should never be used!

For some reason many think that textual criticism aids the enemies of the Bible... Michael Kruger gives great lectures on textual criticism and the purpose of it. He has written books on the subject as well.
