SteveR, thanks for your comment. However, your verse you cited from Romans is referring to an individual, not the magistrate (I do love that verse, tho). In Romans 13:1-7, the Lord established that the civil magistrate is an institution set up by Him. ROMANS 13:3b-5 Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscienceP.s. - I'm not saying this to imply anything about the inquisition.... Just to remark that there are different duties when referencing the church and the civil magistrate. |

Thanks, Frank. Yes, his point was to show how loving and merciful even the seemingly heinous punishments of God's laws were/are. We can never wrap our minds completely around an incomprehensible God, but most so called Christians are worshiping a God of their imaginations who acts according to what their human minds think he should. When confronted with the God of the Bible, they recoil. Because their god certainly only wants them to be happy and not tell them what to do. God established the church, family, and the civil magistrate. If we would use His wisdom in creating our laws, I do believe that it would solve a lot of the issues we currently face. For example, how many in our prisons are rehabilitated being caged up like animals? If a thief were made to pay back in the form of servitude, perhaps it would do more to change his character and he may even see and hear the gospel thru the person he is serving. ... Just one of many examples... However, this is probably veering towards being off topic of the article... I completely agree with you in that too often, we are ashamed of our God and we give the message that sin isn't really such a big deal, when in fact, God hates sin and that makes His gospel all the more glorious in that He would save one such as me. All sin re |

Great Sermon! Thank you for this great sermon which is a blessing from God. Just before I listened, I was thinking of how carelessly and casually I have been hurt by a former friend, and how much I want to return that hurt. I knew already that my attitude was ungodly, but maybe this sermon will give me the strength to display a much more gracious and loving attitude. Thanks, Brother Chappell! |

This may or may not "fit" in the content with this article.... But I'm going to attribute it to government involvement in healthcare! . I'm in the hospital with my mother-in-law who had an emergency appendectomy last night. I pulled out my iPad and hooked up to the free wifi and clicked on my SermonAudio app. AND IT WOULDN'T LET ME ON BECAUSE OF "religious content"!!!! Go figure! The nurse happened to see the blocked icon and asked if I was blocked from a site... I told her yes... Because of religious content... She said that was ridiculous. Thankfully I have free tethering through my phone... Amazingly, they do have a Bible on the nightstand. |

I will add that sermon to my list of research on this topic. And yes, SteveR, defining terms correctly using the "correct dictionary" (so to speak) is crucial... Thanks for the reminder. Now it's time to kick this homeschooling day into high gear! Today's lineup includes: continuing our Biblical study on the true nature of man, crayfish dissection, pansy anatomy, planting tomato seeds, and when the kiddos move on to their independent work of math, reading, English, literature, etc... Then I can delve more into this topic!!! Blessings to all of you on your day! |

Yes, Frank... I truly understand. Our pets become part of our families and it is heartbreaking when they pass. I dealt with peoples' grief quite frequently when I was practicing. And I personally experienced it when our faithful dog died 3 years ago. I thank God that He allows us to interact personally with His creation (no, not as a substitute for human relationships) and to enjoy and care for His creatures as an extension of glorifying Him and enjoying Him forever. I don't worship the creation, but interacting and living within this world draws me to worship Him more... Hope you are having a blessed week! |

Yes, Frank and Randy... There are far worse things she could have done with that $$. Most people spend more than that on their hobbies (golf, gym fees, video games and equipment, TV's, cable fees, vacations, fancy cars, designer clothes, etc...) Taking care of one of God's creatures, (that she has clearly done well for 12 years), doesn't seem like such a bad use of her funds. JY- I bet people are knocking down your door to be your friend and take you to lunch. Sometimes your honesty in revealing the deep intentions of your heart just makes me smile... |
