This story is disturbing, yet not surprising. Military personal are employed by the same statist institution and philosophy as public school teachers (who also have their hands tied as to what they can say). It is in these situations that the fallacy of our post-modern/no absolute truth philosophy becomes glaringly obvious... Even to the non-believer. Another recent example was the Colorado incident where the preborn baby was cut out of her mother's womb and not considered to be murder.

There is absolute truth... Thy Word is truth. He is the way, the truth and the life... and we must not be ashamed of the gospel, for it is the way of salvation for those who believe. Bless this man for speaking the truth, and we all need to remember to fear God, not man, and to speak the truth in love. There is a lost world that desperately needs to hear. I'm afraid that these stories will only become more frequent in the days ahead. I'm glad that at least our press still deems them newsworthy. There may come a time where this "craziness" won't even seem "crazy" to the average person.

SteveR, thanks for your comment. However, your verse you cited from Romans is referring to an individual, not the magistrate (I do love that verse, tho). In Romans 13:1-7, the Lord established that the civil magistrate is an institution set up by Him.
ROMANS 13:3b-5
Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience

P.s. - I'm not saying this to imply anything about the inquisition.... Just to remark that there are different duties when referencing the church and the civil magistrate.

Yes, Marty. The civil magistrate administers justice.

All sin requires a payment. Will it be paid for by the sinner eternally or by the blood of Christ? Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand. That's the message that this world needs to hear, but in an effort to be "nice", the church and individuals aren't telling the good news...

Thanks, Frank. Yes, his point was to show how loving and merciful even the seemingly heinous punishments of God's laws were/are. We can never wrap our minds completely around an incomprehensible God, but most so called Christians are worshiping a God of their imaginations who acts according to what their human minds think he should. When confronted with the God of the Bible, they recoil. Because their god certainly only wants them to be happy and not tell them what to do.

God established the church, family, and the civil magistrate. If we would use His wisdom in creating our laws, I do believe that it would solve a lot of the issues we currently face. For example, how many in our prisons are rehabilitated being caged up like animals? If a thief were made to pay back in the form of servitude, perhaps it would do more to change his character and he may even see and hear the gospel thru the person he is serving. ... Just one of many examples... However, this is probably veering towards being off topic of the article...

I completely agree with you in that too often, we are ashamed of our God and we give the message that sin isn't really such a big deal, when in fact, God hates sin and that makes His gospel all the more glorious in that He would save one such as me. All sin re

Michael Hranek wrote:
both liberalism and its kissing cousing the homosexuality spoken of in the news article
There is a clear difference between Liberalism and homosexual behaviour. Liberalism is the "religion" of heretic churches such as the Anglican and Episcopalian. This unbiblical heresy can also be found in other denominations such as Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian. It is a false witness, depravity in action, and the masquerade of the hypocrite.

Whereas homosexual practice is sin practiced by unsaved reprobates and is especially marked out by GOD as "abomination" at Leviticus 18:22. Extraordinarily verse 22 sits between burning babies to idols and bestiality - Yet homosexuality is the one which God identifies directly as abomination in HIS view. Clearly it is a satanic and evil practice of man.

Do not be cavalier about sin. Do not underestimate sin. The only way devised by God to escape it and its consequences is by the death of the Son of God. That is how evil, deadly and dangerous it is.

Where church and society is concerned do not underestimate the toxic heresy of Liberalism which nullifies Bible doctrines and bewilders perplexed minds.

Really?

And what will happen to us, our families and our churches, the very United States of America (our home on this earth) if we pretend this abomination doesn't affect us and people we care about?

You need to read Rudlington's post again.
Try reading from the word "Liberalism"

A hostage to hurt

“ Great Sermon! ”
Thank you for this great sermon which is a blessing from God. Just before I listened, I was thinking of how carelessly and casually I have been hurt by a former friend, and how much I want to return that hurt. I knew already that my attitude was ungodly, but maybe this sermon will give me the strength to display a much more gracious and loving attitude. Thanks, Brother Chappell!

This may or may not "fit" in the content with this article.... But I'm going to attribute it to government involvement in healthcare! . I'm in the hospital with my mother-in-law who had an emergency appendectomy last night. I pulled out my iPad and hooked up to the free wifi and clicked on my SermonAudio app. AND IT WOULDN'T LET ME ON BECAUSE OF "religious content"!!!! Go figure! The nurse happened to see the blocked icon and asked if I was blocked from a site... I told her yes... Because of religious content... She said that was ridiculous. Thankfully I have free tethering through my phone... Amazingly, they do have a Bible on the nightstand.

Good thoughts, Frank. So many people pick and choose just to fit whatever their favorite little heresy happens to be. One of my "favorites" that I have often heard in counseling/mentoring other women seeking a way out of their marriage is: God just wants me to be happy..... Of course, that goes for all of us who want to keep our pet sin.... We (with our deceitful, wicked hearts (Jer. 17:9)) think that if we are passionate enough about something, then it must be true. I'm thankful to have the WORD of God to be my standard... As well as the blood of Christ to clothe me in righteousness and continually sanctify me...

I will add that sermon to my list of research on this topic.

And yes, SteveR, defining terms correctly using the "correct dictionary" (so to speak) is crucial... Thanks for the reminder.
Now it's time to kick this homeschooling day into high gear! Today's lineup includes: continuing our Biblical study on the true nature of man, crayfish dissection, pansy anatomy, planting tomato seeds, and when the kiddos move on to their independent work of math, reading, English, literature, etc... Then I can delve more into this topic!!! Blessings to all of you on your day!

Interesting and passionate comments on this topic. It would be nice to sit down face to face with some of you and chat gracefully about these things. Honestly, just on SA's site you can find pastors just as passionate about both positions, so independent research isn't as straightforward as you would think. Several scriptures come to mind (just off the top of my head) which would affect the side of the fence I would lean to and have questions about. However, the general tone of this thread sways me away from even asking my humble questions regarding ethnic Isreal. I guess I'll have some studying to do.

I will say this: Mark Twain is hardly someone I would look to as any kind of spiritual example... ??

Yes, Frank... I truly understand. Our pets become part of our families and it is heartbreaking when they pass. I dealt with peoples' grief quite frequently when I was practicing. And I personally experienced it when our faithful dog died 3 years ago. I thank God that He allows us to interact personally with His creation (no, not as a substitute for human relationships) and to enjoy and care for His creatures as an extension of glorifying Him and enjoying Him forever. I don't worship the creation, but interacting and living within this world draws me to worship Him more... Hope you are having a blessed week!

Yes, Frank and Randy... There are far worse things she could have done with that $$. Most people spend more than that on their hobbies (golf, gym fees, video games and equipment, TV's, cable fees, vacations, fancy cars, designer clothes, etc...) Taking care of one of God's creatures, (that she has clearly done well for 12 years), doesn't seem like such a bad use of her funds.

JY- I bet people are knocking down your door to be your friend and take you to lunch. Sometimes your honesty in revealing the deep intentions of your heart just makes me smile...

In addition, an emotional response during an alter call is not necessarily an accurate assessment of an act of the Holy Spirit. It may be sorrow that leads to remorse or it could be sorrow that leads to true repentance. The truth of the "moment" will become visible in time. If it was a true act of the Holy Spirit on that person's heart, then you will see that life on a trajectory towards Christlikeness and fruit bearing. Many churches "stage" the alter all by playing slow, repeating emotional music while the pastor stands up front and begs people to come forward. Then he begs some more as the music repeats. The modern church views their effectiveness on professions of faith, VBS HAND RAISINGS, and baptismal numbers and not on assessment of a Christian walk.

JY - easy believism is rampantly taught by many churches... Including many baptist churches. It means that you make a confession of faith and give a mental ascent to who Jesus is. However, that mental knowledge is lacking a couple of major things: 1. REPENTANCE - which is hating your sins and turning from your sins. 2. LORDSHIP - "believe in the LORD Jesus Christ and you will be saved." If all we do is make a profession but do not live a life of repentance ("bear fruit in keeping with repentance"), if we continue living our lives for ourselves rather than for Christ, then He really isn't our Lord and we are still on the wide path and not the narrow path. That is easy believism. Remember that MANY will say in that day, "Lord, Lord.........." And He will say, "Depart from me. I never knew you." We should be continually examining ourselves to see if we are in the faith. Paul Washer has a tremendous 5 part series on 1 John relating to this.
