I don't have a statement of faith. Why does it matter? It shouldn't be difficult for my questions to be answered? They are really good questions.

Christopher000 wrote:
Hi Elmer, I think what some have been asking for in this thread and another is your personal statement of faith so they can understand and go from there. You seem to keep dodging the questions. Are you afraid some won't like your answer? The way I look at it is we all came from somewhere/something, of which, not much was good, so feel free to express your views and who you're aligned with in order to give a proper picture, and they can go from there. Nobody will give you a difficult time unless you try to push false doctrine with a closed mind. Like I said, we we all something/somewhere else once.

Any dictionary will tell you a person is a human being. A human being is commonly considered a man or woman, though the unscriptural term human being is worth investigation. A man or woman is body, soul, and spirit - or do you believe otherwise? Therefore, 3 persons is equivalent to the Father (body, soul, spirit), the Son (body, soul, spirit), the Holy Spirit (body, soul, spirit).

It is written: ...Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us....

...For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one...

...In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God....

...Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist....

...Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake....

I believe God's people do not have to keep an ot 7th day sabbath or some nt testament 1st day "sabbath" or Lord's day. But maybe we should and if so then I would like know how and when to do so.

The one who quoted the ot scriptures hasn't established applicability to a death penalty today. The point is abuse of scripture that runs rampant. Extracting texts here and there and trying to use them for every thing to suit one's fancy. According to those ot scriptures, I can therefore go shed me some blood of alot of folks out there who have shed some blood!

pennned wrote:
Elmer Yoder, you haven't established anything on this topic.
GS, greetings to you and yours. I think you've made a good point here.
I've been scratching my head through this thread. Israel had a death penalty during the OT era when they were a nation under Mosaic law. I'm not arguing pro/con for today even, but can we be accurate with the scriptures?

Why would you say that? How do you get a trinity out of 3 persons each having body, soul, and spirit?

Why is the Calvinist and like-minded Calvinist painting not accurate? Are they not murderers, killers, and State Supremacists? Do their precious creeds and faith statements profess otherwise?

Troll Spotter wrote:
Basically you deny the trinity? If so, whatever you believe, you're not a Christian -IOW a true believer in Jesus Christ.
Re: Calvinist painting - only accurate if you're into misrepresenting the position.

Ok, since the quoted ot scriptures are not applicable to a death penalty today, we can now examine the nt scriptures to see if there is anything that is applicable to a death penalty today. Is what you quoted GS all the proof texts in your opinion or is there more?

GSTexas wrote:
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Executing wrath upon him that doeth evil seems to justify the death penalty to me.

No it does not. The Roman calendar is a solar calendar and it cannot calculate the 7th day sabbath of scripture. It may have a 7th day of the week, but not a specific 7th day sabbath. Whosoever wants to keep a sabbath must know when that day is.

Yes! Not possible for the entire earth to observe the sabbath at the same time. But remember, the sabbath is a precise day, so we must question if this observance was for people on the entire earth or for those in a certain location where the precise day could be known and observed by all at the same time.

MG wrote:
The Roman calendar works with the Sabbath. There's only 7 days in a week! It's impossible to all observe at the same time. The earth is a sphere

So you're using an incorrect Roman calender and not God's Hebrew calendar.

Either way, how do all the believers all around the world observe a sabbath at the same time?

MG wrote:
Elmer: Gregorian calendar with the Hebrew names. Shabbat= Saturday.

Someone described God as 3 co-equal persons. A person consists of body, soul, spirit.

The Calvinist painting is accurate, though I do realize non-Calvinists share the same murderous spirit of Calvinism too.

Why do you think it's not accurate?

Troll Spotter wrote:
Who believes in a 9 god trinity? Or is this another silly caricature like the one painted of a calvinist?

How do you know Saturday is the 7th day?

MG wrote:
Elmer, GOD is not a confusing God. We are the problem because we're not gods as we unknowingly often think. Also, the current Saturday is the seventh day (from Friday evening). It hasn't been changed by world governments - yet. Study the Word and you'll see what we are to do. GOD had told us.

Still, how many so-called denominations and divisions? All due to "God speaking to them" through his word or in visions or in circumstances in life.

And the ones who change from what they call Saturday to what they call Sunday do so after study and prayer as well. So it is with other teachings. God is a confusing God because he is constantly contradicting himself!

Another question, should we celebrate Jewish feasts as well?

And I haven't seen an answer to the following:

If there is a 7th day sabbath that is supposed to be so special, how do we know when the proper day is?

When we figure that out, what exactly are we to be doing and not doing?

If there is a 1st day sabbath or a "Lord's Day" that is supposed to be so special, how do we know when the proper day is?

When we figure that out, what exactly are we to be doing and not doing?

Oh, just a thought, I don't here any concern about obeying the remaining 6 days.

From sunset to sunrise is a good answer, but how do we know when the 6th day ("Friday") of the week is?

MG wrote:
I grew up with Sunday and have changed to Saturday less than 18 months ago. The change was made after a lot of study, prayer and (dare I say it) courage.

Exactly! The ones who speak these words place the blame for their false doctrines and sins on God, anyone who tries to correct and help them therefore has to deal with God because he "told them."

So how is the extracted quote from Genesis applicable to a death penalty today?

SteveR wrote:
That is correct Elmer. Further, the Noahide Laws apply to ALL men, whereas the Mosaic Law only to Covenant people. That Noahide law doesnt provide a process for the appointment of an executioner.
