Well, gentlemen, you've proven Rachael Denhollander's point: "Rachael Denhollander: 'Few' Victims of Sexual Assault Find 'True Help' From Church" It sounds like some will blame the victim while patting themselves on the back that they're much better parents than the abused child's parents... And the victim and the parents will leave the church weeping. I wonder how you'll explain yourselves to the Lord on Judgement Day? If I were you, I'd run to the foot of the cross and cry out for mercy and forgiveness for hurting "the least of these."

Watcher wrote:
I will go record here to say that what happened to this woman and the others is atrocious. It's wrong and I hope the man involved gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law. That being said, this woman still has a testimony and is still representing Christ. Others look to her as a role model and she can also be considered a stumbling block if her actions are sinful. Okay...some people may, by the grace of God or physiology, have no problem with girls strutting around on a stage in second skin, but SOME DO. We are commanded not to become a stumbling block to our weaker brethren. We are commanded to refrain from the very appearance of evil. We are commanded to come out of the world not be like them. So what if she has a "great testimony", I have heard of others who have had great testimonies and they are no more saved than the devil.Years ago, 'Strippers For Jesus' made the headlines. They also had great testimonies. We are to be judged by our fruit. And one day this woman will be judged for her lifestyle. I wonder how she will defend herself?
The Lord Jesus will defend her - now why don't you leave her alone and let her do the Lord's work without interference or damnation. Thank you.

Yes, the comments have gone off topic. I am familiar with Rachel Denhollander's story. She was homeschooled, grew up in a Christian home and is a genuine believer, as well as an excellent role model for young women. Sadly, she was abused by Larry Nassar, as well as multitudes of other gymnasts. She should be applauded for her courage in speaking out against child abuse - not judged for wearing a leotard while performing as an athlete.

Yes, I have a hang-up with men (and women) lusting in their heart after others. I think it's difficult for one to judge what is dressing modestly, for example I see young women wearing maxi skirts that are quite clingy or tops that have low necklines that leave much flesh exposed. I happen to dress modestly, IMO. But, I do admit to gaining a few pounds over the winter which has left my skirts a bit clingy and tops fitting tighter than normal. However, I do try to dress appropriately for the activity I'm engaged in: jeans and a t-shirt for housecleaning, walking the dog, gardening, etc. A modest skirt, blouse, with jacket or sweater or a dress for church, and if I were to perform gymnastics, a one piece leotard. May the good Lord bless this conversation we've had and use it for His purpose and glory.

Yes, wearing one piece leotards is quite acceptable in certain circumstances - for ex. if one is a ballet dancer or a gymnast. You can quote scripture regarding modesty, and that is well and good, but let's not forget Scripture regarding the heart and how men should not look lustfully upon a young woman (or girl or boy or man, etc.) Scripture also advises one figuratively remove their eye or right arm if it causes them to sin. My advice for men who have a problem lusting after athletic young women is to stay away from ballets and sports events and get counseling. That is not normal and if you have a tendency to lust after young girls or boys, you are on the road to becoming a sexual pervert and criminal.

Thanks Lurker, it's good to hear from you. I hesitated before commenting on this article because I knew I would catch flak. But I just can't look the other way when young naive girls and their parents are accused of wrong-doing because they wear athletic clothing and are fit and talented in gymnastics. I can truthfully say that my husband is not effeminate and yet, young girls in one piece athletic wear do not turn him on. In other words, he only has eyes for me.

Watcher, I'm not following your rabbit trail. You're just angry because I pointed out how sinful it is for you and others to blame the victims of sexual abuse. I don't care if those girls were tumbling in bikinis - the sin is in the hearts of those who lust after young girls and those who deceive and sexually abuse them.

My husband and I have always enjoyed watching the gymnasts during the Olympic Games and never once has he acted as though the young ladies were enticing in the least! Also, the comments posted here regarding the girl's attire (or lack of) implies they are somehow responsible for the sexual abuse they endured and this is reprehensible. Perhaps y'all should review the Sermon on the Mount and do a heart check.

Okay, gentlemen, can we please remember that these girls/young women are athletes? Would you have them wearing a burka while competing? For goodness sake, their athletic wear should NOT be considered a turn on. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for having such wicked thoughts.

NeedHim, My Baptist Pastor does not consider it sin to make the sign of the cross and to own a crucifix. There is a man who is a member of my Baptist Church and he wears a crucifix around his neck.
Dear John, If what you say is true, then I suggest you leave the Baptist Church and look for another that won't water down the Gospel or allow you to be deceived into thinking that fellowship with Rome is not a big deal. Your soul is at stake and it's time for you to grow up.

Medicaid funds are often used to pay for BC and other services (?) Planned Murderhood provides. Jim is probably correct that this is bait and switch. I would have to do more research to know for certain.

From what I'm reading and hearing reported on the news, FB is addressing its users concerns about privacy. So, if you are aware of who has your info and have the ability to limit it, then there shouldn't be any problem for folks like John who use it to be in touch with others. I'm enjoying new found freedom, so perhaps I'm not entirely objective. I really worked at FB to promote Christianity. I wasn't there to have a relationship with others. So, I kept my private life pretty much to myself. I don't think FB is dead - I think they'll make some changes that will be good for the majority of users.

I'm going on a week of not having Facebook and I'm glad I'm deleting my account (FB "deactivated" my account for 2 weeks before deleting it.) I just don't miss it and frankly, I'm happy to not have my feelings manipulated. I think it's rather frightening what an entity like FB can do with people's emotions, as well as influencing their thoughts. For John Y.: How do you think people communicated before FB? It isn't the only game in town. I think people are dependent on FB, much like smokers are dependent on tobacco.

I'm in process of deleting Facebook; I also had an app on my phone, so I'll be looking into this, as well. If law enforcement needs a warrant to search our homes and electronic devises, then why do companies like Facebook get to stalk us on the sly? I'm thankful the extent of the data mining is coming to light and many are deleting FB and other social apps.

Data mining is unethical regardless of who does it. I'm in process of deleting my Facebook account. I'm usually careful when it comes to online activity, but I downloaded a monster of a file of data from my account on Facebook. I recommend others do the same so you'll understand the extent of knowledge FB and other social media have about you.

Amen! Pastor nailed it in this sermon. Our church recently suffered a great loss and Pastor Ingrum reminds us of the truth and points us to Christ. May God receive all the glory.
