I'm not a name it and claim it guy. I won't even go into the whole 'poverty is a curse' thing because there are many people who find themselves homeless and poor who really do or did try to work, but it was their lot in life to be poor. They deserve just as much respect and are just as much children of God as the richest of the rich and powerful.

That being said...Jesus wasn't homeless. He had no place to lie his head when he was on 'field missions' such as we say today. He wasn't necessarily unemployed. The disciples had a poor box for those who were in need, and Judas was stealing from it. I'd also point out that he was the one who complained about the expensive anointing oil being "wasted" on Jesus when it could have been sold to help the poor. I don't have the time to look up the verses for you this morning, but you can easily Google them for yourself.

I also want to say that some--not all--of the homeless and poor, especially in America, have made bad choices, refuse to work or are suffering from pride. To truly be a street person means that you have alienated every person that you know, maybe even a church or two, or that you are too proud to ask for help. Being poor is another matter as I'm sure most of us are only a couple of paychecks from financial ruin.

I agree. It's almost impossible to vote for a true conservative and expect them to win in today's America. I think it's worse nowadays because the ranks are not only made up the young and ignorant masses, but older voters who should know better but don't.

As a longtime poster, and since this topic is about education, so called, I can sum up two of my favorite fellow commentators with a Conan O'Brien memorial SAT analogy:

John Yurich USA is to the Catholic Church as Jim Lincoln is to the Obama administration.

We don't need new laws to stop the homosexual agenda. Look at Matthew 10:16 "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."

If you run a business and you don't want homosexuals to sue you, but you don't want their business, then be wise. Plaster your shop with Bible verses, play good Christian music in your lobby, have Bible verses on you business cards and flyers, sell Christian merchandise in your gift shop, and display a large banner that reads "This business supports traditional marriage between one man and one woman for life" or similar. Then, you treat every customer as equal.

You stick by your beliefs--if they are true--and let the chips fall where they may. With any luck the homosexuals will ban your shop, but if not, you treat them just as you would any other customer...of course, secular heterosexual couples might avoid your shop too, and that's money a business doesn't want to turn away. Which is where problems with the law come in. If you kick out the homers, but accept adulterers then you are a hypocrite and may be sued. If you are going to be that traditionalist you must "go all in". Otherwise, anyone can be treated as second class--including Christians depending on who owns the business.

Personally, I hate it when any religious group that claims to be Christian--be it the RCC or a sect like the Unitarians--shows tolerance/endorsement of/for same sex marriage. It confuses good people who want to do the "Christian thing", and adds credence to the false arguments of the liberal, tree-hugging alternative lifestylers who have no interest whatsoever in being more like Christ. They say the "pope says civil unions are Biblically sound, so it must be okay" and often it doesn't matter if they are Catholic or not. As for those good people in the Catholic Church, if they stick to their own rules they are supposed to follow what poppy says no matter what. One of many reasons that I would never become a Catholic--although I'm a lot more tolerant of the church than some of you posters are.

The bottom line: no matter what denomination you are in, if you read the Bible with an open mind for yourself, you will see that the homosexual lifestyle is an abomination in God's eyes.BTW, don't let some wag talk to you about priestly/tribal laws that we don't follow anymore as an excuse to embrace the homosexual agenda. Some rules were exclusive to Israel to honor God and keep them safe in the ancient times--like food laws--but other statutes were meant to stand forever.

I live and work overseas and have done so ever since Obummer took office. I hope that I continue to be blessed with work overseas...BUT the UAE is far, far from perfect--even if we spoke in a strictly secular sense. There are double-standards here just like in the States. There are cover-ups, scandals, and a younger generation that run around like packs of wild animals. All that said, on a day to day basis I feel safer out here than I do at home. I like being able to live "tax-free". I'm glad that I don't support the programs that have been rammed down the throats of my fellow Americans for these last five years. I dare say that I'm happy and stress free for the most part.

I'm not recruiting or bashing America here. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that if you can live a happy, Christian life in a primarily Muslim nation, then surely you can make a happy life for yourselves in America too. Try not to worry so much and get caught up in the politics of it all, when you can't do anything to change it anyway. Pray and follow the Bible. Take care of yourself and your family. If that means leaving for another community, state or even country then do so! In the end you'll be happier for it.

...hmm if both sets of great grandparents had aborted their offspring we wouldn't have to deal with Bill or Hillary...in that case just this once...NAH! Abortion is still wrong and should be illegal. I hope someday everyone will see it that ay.

The only silver lining in this dark cloud is that state's rights have been recognized. What remains to be seen is whether or not this is only lip service for opponents of "same sex marriage" or if the voters of each state will really be able to decide with their votes. After the shenanigans that were pulled in Texas, who knows what anyone's vote is worth.

I'll be visiting family and friends in the States in two weeks after a two-year hiatus. I'm only going to stay for one month. I wonder how many reasons I will see to continue to be thankful for my position overseas.

If I had kids I would take them out of the scouts immediately. They could join a church group like AWANA or something similar, so that they are raised in the right way. Don't kid yourself. On paper letting boys be members looks good, but it's the camel's nose in the tent. When these boys grow up into men and want to continue scouting they will say that they attended scouts in their youths without incident. Then the rule will change to a once a scout always a scout type of thing. Then a few years down the line adult gay males who were never scouts will ask for equal treatment, so that they too can be in leadership positions. The scouts, by not standing now, can not be expected to stand when that time comes and there you have the whole camel in your tent. I pray for the kids of America.

I'm not AGAINST students learning cursive writing or memorizing multiplication tables, but it's not really a top priority. Cursive writing is rarely used anywhere. Why not teach them typewriter repair or how to speak Aramaic? Memorizing multiplication tables or anything else for that matter is a futile exercise. Our memories likely fail in time and we all forget things or make mental errors from time to time.Students shouldn't depend of their own memories too much for answering problems or writing reports. They should be taught how to use the tools at their disposal calculators, dictionaries, data bases, and all of our computerized devices to assure that they do accurate work.

Has there ever been an employer that has required you to complete a project relying on only your own abilities? Maybe, but I think most successful businesses want their employees to use every tool at their disposal to make sure the job is done right the first time.

@ Mike and Barry, agreed. The RINO are "evolving" because they are under the illusion that it will get them more votes. What really happens is that conservative Christians just stay home. Romney lost last election, and with 'X' amount fewer votes than McCain had not because he was too liberal, but because he was a Mormon. Many Christians couldn't bring themselves to vote for Romney and that is why we have Obama now.

If the Republicans bring a 'Democrat-lite' who has undoubtedly 'evolved' on the issues of 'same-sex marriage' and 'immigration'--but manages to stand firmly against abortion, who do you think will win? When that man loses, how many Republican candidates will then "evolve" on the abortion issues come election 2020? It will finally be time to support the third party candidate and watch him lose even more miserably every four years.

On SSM specifically,Christians are at least partially to blame. The support of the condom culture, the problem of pornography, any type of sex outside of marriage, winking at "funny" tv shows and movies that have gay characters and make fun of Christian values, and the high divorce rate among "us" has led to marriage losing its sacredness. We should have been standard bearers, and in many respects we've failed.

@Jim Lincoln I don't think we will ever see eye to eye politically and I hope that you were just kidding, but I find that a lot of people, even Christians, think of God as a genie sitting up in Heaven waiting to grant us wishes, and what's more not one of those friendly genies like Barbara Eden or Robin Williams, but more like that genie from those Wishmaster horror movies where you have to be careful to word your prayer just right because God is just chomping at the bit to send the lightning bolts crashing down on us if we're praying for rain. He doesn't operate that way. He wants good things for those of us who are his followers.

I'll never forget hearing one preacher give a sermon about 'watching what you pray for' during which he gave an example of a man who prayed to have everything hindering his life to be removed so that he could be more successful...two weeks later his wife died. Now, I'm not sure if that was meant to be a joke or not, but if it was I didn't get it. It's not right to hang that sort of thing on God. It's the enemy that brings the bad things into this fallen world whereas God wants the best for us...including righteous judges. The decision will be on the conscience of the judge as well as the consequence.

@Jamesc I would have never thought so before, but it seems like I'll be joining you without a party. I have always considered myself an independent conservative, but let's face it, if you want a candidate to win on the national scale that meant voting Republican. Now, I feel that I will have to vote for a third party, but knowing that he won't win...I'll more than likely abstain.

Well, if the Republicans "bow to pressure" and start openly supporting the gay agenda, then I guess I'll have to vote for a third party or abstain.

On "bowing to pressure" there may be a vocal minority within the Republican Party that really does pressure the party to consider supporting the gay agenda, but I think most conservatives will be against it. The higher ups are misjudging their primary base of voters.

If they are in "say anything to get elected" mode, I think that they are in for a shock. If anything they will do even worse with the conservative Christian voters than they did last election. The issue with Romney and whether or not to vote for him had nothing to do with him being too conservative and everything to do with him being a Mormon. There weren't enough Christians willing to give the Mormon a chance and most stayed home.

If the Republican party becomes Democrat Lite then they will lose even more conservative Christian voters, and you can bet that the liberal Democrats won't be switching sides. Why would they want a watered down version of their own party?

I do believe that some things in the Bible are allegory. I don't think the story of Adam and Eve fall into that category, and it should go without saying but I don't buy into evolution by any means.
My own beliefs about the Genesis account are in a minority, but I'm not the first one to create this theory. I believe that Adam and Eve were real, but I also believe that God created mankind--not Adam and Eve alone. Adam and Eve and their direct descendants were one specific family or you may say race. I believe this in part because when Cain wandered the Earth there were more humans out in the world at that time, and I don't think they were all Cain's sisters.

If you really do need foodstamps or any other social service, then by all means take it, and don't be ashamed of it. If you were ever a part of the workforce, you paid for it and then some. The problem arises when people who could be working and supporting themselves decide to depend on the governement when they don't need to.

My mom is a widow who was a housewife most of her life, so she lives off of my dad's social security check. The powers that be (I don't even know who they are to be honest) continually try to get her to sign up for foodstamps in addition to the ss benefit she already receives, although she really doesn't need them. Several other older folks, espescially church members seem to be targeted.

I answered 31/32 correctly. Although it doesn't prove anything to me. Most of the quiz isn't about Protestant Christianity, so what does it matter if you know trivia about false religions or not? The only question a Christian needs to answer correctly is the one about whether or not Jesus is Lord and Saviour.

What can you say? Even the alleged conservatives have gone soft for sodomy. I think Laura Bush was secretly pro-abortion as well, unless I'm misremembering. I guess God can still find enough righteous people in the States to spare it from total destruction, but I think real Christian conservatives are becoming an endagered species.

Jokes are one thing, but sometimes people take it too far. I have had to turn off 'SNL' and 'Southpark' on more than one occasion because of this. There's only so much of it that you can take. I don't think they would do any skits about Mohammad any time soon and get away with it, but they can mock Jesus all day. There will be a pay day some day...just got to hope most of your jokes were clean.
